I WON'T LET ANYTHING HAPPEN TO YOU

"I didn't mean to intrude, I just lost my way here," she said, scanning the floor as her cheeks flushed involuntarily. The man couldn't help but tease her, "What happened to your cheeks? Are you sick?"

"It's nothing like that!" she turned away, her shyness making the Alpha smirk. He had been surprised to find her still in bed this morning, whimpering after their rough night together. Now he watched as she cleaned the room, anxious to get away.

"If you have nothing to do with me then I will leave, I have floors to sweep," she said.

"Did I allow you to leave?" Alpha Enrique said, his voice low and menacing. "Look at you, who would even take you as their Luna if you still act like a maid?"

Licia didn't say anything. She knew this was her reality and she couldn't hide it from anyone. The Alpha continued, "Is this all you have? You're going to get married in those clothes?"

"It's not my fault that you tore my wedding gown," she replied as she continued to sweep the room.

"Are you talking back to me?" Alpha Enrique asked, "Didn't I tell you last night I don't like your attitude?"

"What can I do about that? You want me to not reply to you at all," Licia said, her feisty spirit shining through.

Alpha Enrique chuckled to himself, controlling his laughter before saying, "We should go to the town and get you a new dress. We can't hold our wedding in your torn clothes and this shabby one is even worse."

"Why?" Licia asked, confused. "Why do you want to marry me?"

"Didn't I promise you yesterday that I would make you my Luna?" Alpha Enrique asked. Licia bit down on her lip and spoke in a low tone, "I am just a petty maid, why do you want to marry me and offend the king?"

"First of all," he explained, "I wanted to marry Anna because I was drunk and liked the way she looked. Second of all, the King only wants me to marry so that I could settle down in this kingdom. He doesn't mind who I marry as long as I stay here to serve him. Besides," he paused and looked into her eyes, "I am a man of my word. You chose to give me your virginity, I take responsibility as your man."

Licia seemed to have lost herself in his eyes. It had been a long time since she heard someone speak truthfully. Everything seemed to calm down until Alpha Enrique noticed something and asked, "What is that?"

Licia snapped out of her daydream and noticed the man staring at her. She tried to turn around, saying, "It's nothing."

But he stopped her, holding her arms and inspecting her face. She had bruises hidden under her hair. He asked, "Did someone beat you while you were working as a maid?"

Licia brushed off his hand, saying, "No, it's not like that. It's just... don't worry about it."

She refused to show him the bruises, making him curious. "Are you ashamed because you were beaten?"

He saw her face turn red and her grip on the broom tighten. She didn't say anything, but her actions spoke volumes. He wondered how a bastard maid like her had so much pride.

He softened his voice, "You don't have to worry. From now on, as long as I'm here, nothing like that will ever happen to you."

Licia froze. Was she hearing things?

"What did you say?" she asked.

He realized he had said too much and cleared his throat. "You're my wife. If you get hurt, it will make people question my ability to protect my own spouse."

Alpha Enrique tried to sound cold, but Licia didn't react. He changed the subject, "I'm going to take a bath. Get ready to leave for the town."

As he left, Licia pondered. He didn't seem cold or ruthless. He was a handsome man with sunny blonde hair who wanted to protect his wife at all costs, something she didn't expect from a "heartless" warrior.

In the shower, Alpha Enrique relaxed in his tub. His wolf, Reed, teased him, "You were doting on her back there."

"I wasn't doting," he countered. "I just wanted to make her feel better."

Reed wagged his tail, "Of course you did."

Alpha Enrique frowned, "Stop talking like that. I'm only marrying her because of the king. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bothered."

"But you're not as cranky as before," Reed observed. "It is because she's our mate。"
