Chapter Five

Claire

The suite they were taken to was lavish, done up in shades of black and brown, it looked like it was taken off the pages of a magazine.

Both girls couldn’t relax or enjoy the sights, although they were encouraged by the guards to do just that.

There was a sitting area by an electronic fireplace and they were directed there. Snacks were brought immediately and there was a luxurious bathroom attached to the suite. It would have been enjoyable to spend time here if they weren’t so nervous.

They both didn’t speak much, they just sat stiffly and occasionally checked their phones.

Neither of their parents called because they knew they were both with each other which was a relief because explaining their current situation would be too much trouble. Not when they didn’t even know what exactly was going on.

An entire wall of the suite was made of glass and although it was on the top floor, the view was awe inspiring but there was no one looking at it.

Meals where brought for both girls periodically and every time they tried to ask the guards questions, they were met with silence.

So the tension only spiked as the day went by. Dusk was fast approaching and they had spent their entire day cooped up inside the Alpha King’s suite, soon they would start getting concerned calls.

The door swung open at this point, Claire and Rachel immediately turning to see who it was. They were half expecting it to be another guard and when they saw that it wasn’t just another guard but the Alpha King Lukas himself, they both shot to their feet,

“Alpha Lukas!” Rachel exclaimed, shocked.

Lukas looked slightly disheveled. “My apologies for keeping you waiting.” He said sincerely, bowing slightly.

Lukas was dressed in a three piece suit and although he looked stressed out, it only added to his charm.

He spoke directly to Rachel, his tone gentle. “I couldn’t get away early enough, I hope you weren’t startled by the guards following my orders?”

Rachel was so flustered by Lukas’ fixated attention that she forgot to be upset. “A-A little.” She stuttered slightly, all of the fight leaving her body when Lukas leveled his eyes on her.

“Could you keep a little secret for me, Rachel?” He drawled, leaning even closer.

Rachel’s brown eyes went wide, she couldn’t believe that she was having a full blown conversation with the Alpha King himself, in person. “Y-Yes, of course!” She accepted without even bothering to find out what kind of secret it was.

“Your friend…” Here Lukas flicked his eyes in Claire’s direction, looking at her for the first time since he stepped in. “... is my Fated mate, do you understand why I had to have her brought to me now?”

Claire felt her heart stop beating for a few precious seconds. When Lukas looked at Rachel, his eyes had a teasing quality to them but it darkened to something sinister when he briefly looked at her.

‘His Fated mate? She? A human? Was this some kind of joke? Where was the punchline?’

Rachel looked just as stunned. “She… Sh-She is?” She blustered, looking at Claire and back at Lukas in pure disbelief.

Lukas smiled but there was no humor in it. “Yes, so I’ll have to trouble you to keep this a secret for now, we’ll need some privacy before it can be announced to the public.” He concluded, looking at Claire again, this time he didn’t take his eyes away.

Rachel looked from the Alpha King to her childhood friend, her cheeks heating up at the implications of his words. “Of-Of course, sir.” She stammered, unable to say a single proper sentence in front of Lukas.

“Guards?” He lifted a brow and in the next moment, a couple guards hurried in to usher Rachel away.

It had happened so quickly that Claire couldn’t even protest, she could only watch helplessly as Rachel happily waved at her, giving her a thumbs up while grinning sheepishly.

But she didn’t understand, no one was asking Claire if this was what she wanted. She was just expected to give in just because the Alpha King said she was his Fated mate.

She was also terrified of Lukas, she couldn’t explain it but it was the way he looked at her, like he wanted to eat her up.

So when he took a step forward in her direction, she took a step back, unconsciously trying to get away from him.

Lukas only smiled, his smile was slanted, and it was very much different from the one he had showed Rachel. “Scared of me? Little human?”

Claire’s palms were sweaty and she looked past Lukas to the door, she knew too well that not only would it be impossible to get past Lukas but that there were guards waiting right outside the door, there was no escape for her.

“I…” She started to reply but then he took another step towards her.

Claire stumbled backwards again, going past the sitting area and inadvertently heading for the kingsized bed. She wasn’t just scared, she was terrified.

It made her heart beat faster, pumping more blood that made her skin a faint red.

In a split-second decision, she pulled out her phone from the pocket of her jeans to make an attempt to call her parents. It was the only thing she could do.

She didn’t get far though because Lukas was quicker, stepping into her personal space and taking her phone from her hand. It made Claire panic and stumble back a couple more steps.

The terrifying realization that Lukas could get to her any time but chose to bid his time instead made her knees go weak with fear.

“Please, let me go.” She finally spoke up, still walking backwards as Lukas looked through her phone. “I-I promise I won’t tell anyone about this…”

She barely had all her words out before Lukas was in her personal space again. “Do you realize how badly I want to let you go?”
