Chapter 7
When we arrived at Tony District, the police cars were around the location parking there, and some of the officers were outside. Chief Rylan leads the way, and next to him is Detective Eric. The place's ambiance is quite unusual and cold; it feels like the people who live there do not know or interact with one another.
The victim's house is good for two to three people, and the entrance is not entirely fixed enough to secure the people living in the house. But what we are handling is a murder case. What is the motive of the suspect?
Detective Alex and Detective Sayer stepped inside the house and checked the surroundings. Before I followed them, a man approached the house entrance while shedding tears. "Grandma! Grandma! Where is my grandma? Is she there? Grandma!" he kept shouting those words while trying to get inside. "Let him in. He is the grandson of the victim." Chief Rylan muttered to the officers. Putting someone in an unwanted position is not just uncomfortable but totally an unbearable feeling at times like this. Will he endure the pain?
"Detective Alice, come inside now together with other officers." He added while I was standing at the entrance. I was nervous at first before going inside, given the scenario that occurred when the victim's grandson came and crying looking for his grandmother. I wonder how he will deem after seeing what happened.
"No! No! No! Grandma! What happened here? No! She is not dead! Please call an ambulance! Save my grandmother, please! Grandma, please wake up! Do not leave me alone here, please!" these words are what you can hear inside the house. It is more painful than I thought before going to the actual crime scene.
"The victim is a 70-year-old woman. She lives here with house number 20 in Tony District. Apparently, the victim was stabbed twenty times in the stomach, four cuts on her fingers for both hands, and four cuts on her left leg. There is still no solid evidence as of now, but we will continuously look for the suspect." Detective Eric reported to the team and to other officers after examining the current situation in the house. "While the other officers are still looking for the solid pieces of evidence, we will have to conduct cross-examination to the people close to the victim, including the grandson and the person who reported the incident." He added.
"Detective Eric, may I know who reported the incident to the department?" I asked before I started to look around. "The caretaker of the victim." He responded. And with that, the subject dropped. I began to join the officers in looking for the evidence we could use to find the person behind the murder. When I looked at the victim's body, I noticed that her hair was a bit wet. It was like she had just finished showering before the incident happened. I looked over her closet and saw her clothes and other unorganized stuff. It is like someone was trying to search for something from her cabinet without asking permission. I also saw a sliced apple on the table and a cup of herbal tea. There are two cups, and two plates like two people are having a meal and queer conversation, as I would like not to say, but that is what I thought.
I wrote down everything in my notebook and put the things we could use inside a clear plastic zip lock. It is more complex than I thought because we had to think outside the box, but we should control it to avoid false information and reports at the same time. I guess being a detective is a complex career after all. We can make a mistake, but we cannot make any wrong move when we are already in this kind of framework.
"Did you find anything, Detective Alice?" Detective Alex approached me after a long time of searching in the place. "Yes, I have actually found things that I am sure we can use. I have also jotted down the unusual patterns I have noticed while searching in other areas." I responded confidently but deep down inside, I can still sense that there are still I can find, but I know that it is not in the house. This was hardly a thought, given that this is my first murder case.
"By the way, Sir, when will we transfer the body for the autopsy?" As I looked up and started to mingle my reaction, even I was trying my best to control it. "For now, we will transfer the body to the hospital autopsy, but before we request for the autopsy of the victim's body, we should ask first for the family's consent." He responded. I can sense that everyone in the house is tired but still dedicated to looking for a piece of evidence we can use.
"Sir! I found something!" Detective Alex shouted and called for Chief Rylan's attention. "What is it?" we asked as we simultaneously made an approach. "I am not sure what this is, but I think it is a pin. I found it underneath the cabinet, and it has blood on it." The ambiance of the room started to create a momentous and pressing presentiment. Who owns that pin? Why is there blood on it? It gives me a weird feeling, but I believe that we can use that to catch the culprit.
"Sir, may I know where you stay?" Detective Alex asked the victim's grandson while sitting on the sofa in the living area. I am sure that he was waiting for us to tell him what happened and expecting us to lay all the information he needed if there were any. "Do you find anything, Sir? Please tell me who killed my grandmother!" the grandson responded while being in tears. We expected that question from him before we approached him from his position. "Sir, we cannot disclose the information and the things we found in the house for now. But we will find the person behind this. You have to trust us."
Trust. That is the most sacred thing you could give to someone. But it also provides an affliction to the receiver because you have to be heedful in making no mistake to break that trust.
Who do you trust the most?
