Chapter 6: Bridge

On the day of the festival, Jessica's friends came over and had breakfast with us. They were all wearing their costumes, one had a lycanthrope costume while the other had a witch costume.

The one with the lycanthrope costume was Suzanna while the one with the witch costume was Shirley. They were both as wild as Jessica.

While on the dining island, they talked about the prank to pull on people and the crazy things to do when we go out.

I tried to minus myself from all their plans but Jessica was adamant about involving me, she said there was no way I could follow them without participating in what they would do.

"What if we get caught? I don't wanna go to jail, I don't!" I complained.

"Like seriously?" she wrinkled a brow at me while her friends laughed scornfully.

"What's funny?" I asked out of curiosity but none of them replied to me except Jessica,

"You are asking?" she smirked at me and continued, "Well your words sound funny actually, who's gonna make arrests today? Absolutely nobody, the Sheriffs would be neutral today. No arrests would be made except for crimes like murder"

"Oh!" I said with my mouth agape, "Does that mean other crimes are legal?" I asked.

"It depends" Suzanna chimed in, "Some crimes would be handled after the festival" she added.

"Yes, that's if the perpetrator is caught in the act" Jessica took over and continued, "but if nobody sees you doing something wrong then you have nothing to worry about"

"Oh!" I muttered and sighed.

"Yeah, so... you have nothing to worry about. You just have to wear you costume and stick with us" she added.

"Okay then" I gulped.

After breakfast, we all headed out to the streets. I was new so I made sure I stayed very close to Jessica and her friends.

We matched around the streets together with many other locals, everyone wearing their costumes and discussing with their friends.

Someone tried to snatch away my phone but I was quick to pull it away from his reach, he then laughed and ran into the crowd.

"Jessica, someone almost stole my phone" I complained.

"What? You brought your phone too?"

"Yes, I..."

"Okay just hold it tight" she said through her mask.

"Okay" I huffed, moving more closer to her and her friends. "So," I continued, "where are we going exactly?"

"Wait, didn't you told her about the walkthrough?" Suzanna asked.

"I did, she must have forgotten" Jessica replied and then told me to just stick around them.

As we walked through the main street, I kept looking around the buildings. All shops were locked as if they had been deserted.

"Laura, over here!" I heard Jessica called me from afar, I didn't even know I had slowed down and was left behind.

"Shit!" I muttered and began running towards them. Unfortunately, I tripped and fell. And when I stood up, I couldn't find them.

I looked around, yelling Jessica's name but couldn't find her nor her friends. Thus I decided to call her on phone but just as I was about dialing her number someone snatched my phone away.

"You want it back? Follow me" he said.

"F*ck!" I squealed and ran after him as he found his way into the crowd, he was wearing a hillbilly costume. "Hey, come back here... please!"

I chased him, yelling at him until we eventually arrived at a dead end. The cranny he followed was blocked, I was really to see him pinned.

"Please, give me back my phone" I implored walking gently closer to him, "Please..."

"Hmm" he sighed and threw the phone at me.

As I reached out for the phone, he ran past me and disappeared into the crowd.

"Coward!" I muttered.

I shouldn't have brought my phone, although I didn't actually know things could be as bad as this. I also thought the festival wouldn't be as Jessica exaggerated. If only I knew.

I quickly dialed her number and asked where they were. "We are at the mainland bridge, you should come and meet us there" she replied.

"Mainland bridge?" I puzzled, "You mean that bridge that leads to this land?"

"Yes, the bridge. Meet us there, or if you can't you can just go back home" she said, "Or what do you think, guys?" I heard her said to her friends.

"Yes, she should head straight home!" They smirked.

"You know I can hear you right?" I muttered.

"Loud and clear, I know. But that's just the fact. If you can meet us there, hurry up. If you can't, go home. Can you?" she said.

"Well," I huffed thinking about the things I would miss if I return home, "just wait for me, okay? I am coming" I finally decided to meet them at the bridge.

"Nice choice, now hurry up!" she ended the call.

From where I currently was to the bridge, it wasn't that close and considering how crowdy the road was, I might need another route to the bridge in order to reach there in time.

I quickly launched my GeoMap app and searched for the easiest route to the bridge. The map showed three routes but suggested one for me as it was more safe than the other two.

While holding the phone, I began running and monitoring the map. "Turn right" The app suggested even though the cranny it was asking me to follow was blocked. I ignored the command and kept running until it made the appropriate command later.

After following nearly all the commands and also making some adjustments, I finally arrived at the main bridge but Jessica was nowhere to be found. "That silly girl!" I muttered angrily.

Before I could dial her number, she pulled a prank on me by appearing from nowhere with her friends just to scare me.

"The hell, are you nuts?" I exclaimed. They had really succeeded in frightening me. I almost dropped my phone in fear.

"What did I tell y'all? She's gonna fall for it" Jessica scoffed together with her friends.

"Don't do that again, please!" I implored.

"Okay, okay..." she paused, "I heard you!"
