Chapter 3 Don't Make Them Pay
''Don't worry. I have taken revenge on your behalf,'' Peter Turnah rubbed Audrey's hair fondly and said. ''He has dropped out of your school. You will never see him again,'' he added.
''Yes, Audrey. Now, not even the entire Dank family can lay any claims to assets in Bullen City,'' her brother, Charles, also said. ''We are going to make them bankrupt,'' he added.
Audrey's heart stopped beating temporarily.
''But. I thought that we were trying to do business with them. The Dank family,'' Audrey asked.
''To be honest, Henry Dank has been giving me a hard time. This pursuit of them out of the city, couldn't have happened anytime sooner than now. I am relieved,'' Charles told Audrey.
Henry Dank was Jerry Dank's father.
Henry Dank ran a Technical Mobile Network that dealt in chips and had been trying to get the Turnah family to do business with him because the two families had what each other needed, but the Turnah family had been turning down Henry Dank's offers.
''Dad. What do you think about my suggestion?'' Charles asked his father. ''If we can make the city unbearable for them, their business would suffer, and investing in them would be easier. they would end up owing us, as they would go bankrupt,'' he explained.
Audrey could not believe her ears.
Her mind flashed back to the dream she had, and she realized that it was in sync with what was going on right before her nose.
''Why do you want to make them go bankrupt? Is it necessary?'' Audrey asked.
Yes. It was an extreme measure that Charles had suggested, but they had bullied Audrey though. The Dank family.
''Audrey my dear,'' her father cooed at her. ''Forget about how business is run my dear,'' her dad told her. ''Leave that to your brother and me to handle. ''You just stay away from business,'' the man said.
Audrey thought that he was right, but she also knew that he was treading dangerous ground.
If they took extreme measures against the Dank family, and then Jerry turned around to be influential in the future, he would come back to take revenge.
It was as if that dream that Audrey had was a warning to her.
''Dad, Jerry can't leave Bullen, and neither can the Dank family go bankrupt,'' Audrey told her dad.
''And why?'' Peter Turnah asked her in surprise.
''What of if the Dank family becomes successful later, after all this? Then you would have created an enemy for yourself for nothing,'' Audrey said.
''What?'' Charles muttered in shock. ''You think too much of these damn Dank family. If Henry Dank wants to come after us, he will hit a rock. He knows that. Besides, after they go bankrupt, how possible is it that they would ever come out of it?'' Charles ranted and asked Audrey.
She wished that she could fill them in on her dream. Her dad and brother. She wished she could tell them how her dream and what was currently going on were in sync, but she couldn't.
They didn't believe in superpowers. Even if she had it, they were not ready to hear it.
''Daddy, but Jerry is my classmate, I will not want to embarrass him like that,'' Audrey begged her dad. She begged for a while and Peter Turnah saw that she still liked Jerry Dank, so he eventually agreed.
''Okay fine. I will arrange someone else for you to like, that will also like you too. Your brother will see to it,'' Peter Turnah told his daughter.
Since Audrey was no longer upset and seemed still interested in the boy, Jerry Dank, and it was because of her that he wanted to punish the Dank family in the first place, then there was nothing he could do but call it off.
''Why did I have such a precious daughter in the first place?'' Peter asked, and embellished an embarrassed Audrey with kisses.
''So dad, how would the Dank family repay for what their son did? I am thinking about calling off talks with them concerning the business that they brought to us,'' Charles suggested.
But Peter Turnah's decision was final, and they were not hurting the Dank family, right? So Charles had to yield with a bow.
The next day at school, Audrey was walking up the stairs when she saw a tall figure above her. It was Jerry Dank.
Nervous and unprepared, she bumped into him up in a corner.
Jerry glared at her condescendingly.
He could smell her fear while he walked down the stairs one slow step at a time, and Audrey glued herself to the wall to make way for him.
When their eyes locked in on each other, Jerry could see that she was afraid, yet she still managed to smile at him.
''Are you afraid? Oh, please,'' Jerry muttered.
''Audrey Turnah,'' he called at her. His voice was cold as ice.
''I do not care how you feel, but if you think that you can control me, then you are in a fool's paradise,'' Jerry said.
Audrey's body trembled.
''I am not playing hard to get, so stop thinking that you stand a chance with me. I am unavailable,'' Jerry told Audrey.
''It's fine Jerry. I am sorry, and I won't bother you again,'' Audrey replied.
Jerry was surprised at her reply at first, but then he nodded and agreed with her when he saw how sincere she was.
''That's better,'' Jerry muttered and then he walked away.
The tense aura between them quickly dissipated.
Audrey finally released the tension she held on to.
She shook her head in self-pity.
Jerry will never know why she likes him, nor how much she likes him. Even, did not know why she had a soft spot for him, she knew that it existed, and as of now, there was nothing she could do about it. Jerry was not available for her. He had made it clear and if she continued to force him, she would end up looking like a loser.
