chapter 6 : Competition

Learn to control your hunger for the sake of your brother, Vanessa said to Alexander in her mind.

Hearing that, Alexander closed his eyes once again. His eyes were back to green, and he asked Becca, Whats your major?

Oh, I am in English Language and Literature. What about you? Becca inquired.

Same, he responded curtly. He had to stay close to her after all, so he enrolled himself in the same department as hers. He already knew that she was in the literature field, but he had to start a conversation and try to get to know her better.

Alexander wished to ask her directly about the potion. However, he couldnt do that as long as Vanessa was present. So, he refrained from asking about the potion directly.

We are in the same department, so we will have the same classes as well. I am sure we can be great friends, Becca announced and continued talking to Alexander, who tried to be friendly with her, controlling his thirst for her blood only for the sake of his brother. He reminded himself to go hunting tonight and satiate his hunger. He couldnt stay hungry before meeting with Becca, otherwise, his plan would be ruined.

It was finally the first day of classes. Becca woke up early and did some yoga along with Vanessa.

How did you like Seb and Alex? questioned Vanessa.

Seb is awesome. He loves you so much and he is friendly, Becca answered. Alex is okay too, I really hope to be friends with him since we are in the same department.

You will. Dont worry, Vanessa assured her as they finished their morning workout.

After a while, they decided to get ready. Vanessa had to meet up with Sebastian so she left the dorm early, leaving Becca alone.

Becca looked at the open window. Yesterday was sunny, but today, the weather was different. It seemed cloudy and dull. She was wondering why she was getting an unusual feeling ever since she got here.

With Vanessa, she would get a warm, familial feeling; as if she was a part of her family. Each time she met Alexander, which was only twice, she had a dej v vibe and the same feeling she got with Vanessa; as if she had a strong connection with him. Only with Sebastian, would she get the normal human feeling, totally neutral ones and no connection. Why was that? Why did she feel such a strong connection with Vanessa and Alexander only?

Her thoughts were interrupted when the alarm started ringing. It was time for her to get ready since her first class started at nine in the morning. So, she opened the closet and took out a pair of jeans which she would pair with a black high-neck top. She wore her boots as well after tying her hair in a high ponytail. Then she hung her bag on one shoulder, which was packed last night, and ran out of the room.

Becca entered the campus and found people swarming. It was a busy day indeed. There was a huge poster hung in the auditorium, written, Welcome, newcomers. May you enjoy your Freshman year.

Becca could get a strong feeling again. She sucked in a deep breath.

Geez, these humans, Alexander, who was standing behind Becca, mumbled in annoyance.

Hearing the familiar voice, Becca turned around. She smiled with her dimples popping out and said, Hey.

Alexander glanced at Becca. Hi.

What is your first class? she asked Alexander. Mine is poetry.

Alexander answered, Mine as well.

Great. We can walk together then. she added, noticing the confused look on his face, Only if you are okay with that.

He responded, shrugging his shoulders, Sure. I have zero problems.

Becca chuckled at him repeating what she said. She was happy that she at least knew someone on the first day and she wasnt a loner. Therefore, she was thankful to Vanessa.

Alexander wasnt hungry because his stomach was full, he made sure of it so that he could be near Becca and not lose control over himself. However, her addictive smell was still luring him like a sirens song, but he had to hold himself back now.

They walked to their first class of the day, which was in room 240, leaving the group of people gathering at the auditorium.

It is better to stay in the class instead of reading the welcome poster with plenty of people, Becca informed Alexander while walking along with him. It was so crowded with people. I barely had space to breathe. When she saw Alexander quietly listening to her, she asked, What about you though?

He responded, I barely breathe. The way he said it sounded so serious, but Becca laughed it off as a joke.

That was a bad joke, she told him. Although, the way you said it, it sounded so true. She clutched the strap of her bag on her shoulder again as it was about to slip off.

Alexander didnt bring any bag. He didnt even have books in his hand.

Becca noticed his attire. He wore another black coat with a different design, reaching to his knees. He looked handsome, but when a thought got into her mind, she asked, I understand that todays weather is dull, so you wore this coat today. But why did you wear a similar thing yesterday when it was a sunny day?

He answered with patience, which was slowly dissipating because he hated to answer too many questions, I always feel cold.

She arched an eyebrow. Even when there is a heater?

He hummed in response and entered the classroom with Becca. The entire poetry classroom was empty.

She was about to sit on the middle bench but she saw Alexander sitting on the last bench. Wanting to be his friend since he was the only person she knew in Freshman year, she decided to sit next to him.

Alexander clenched his fist. Now she will want to ask me more questions, he thought to himself.

So, do you always wear dark colors or only black? Or do you want to go unnoticed by people so you wear dark colors? Becca asked curiously.

I wanna go unnoticed, he replied curtly.

With that handsome face of yours? Best of luck, she mumbled, which was audible for Alexander since they were the only ones in the classroom.

His heart skipped a beat at that compliment. Alexander did get compliments but hearing it from her mouth that she found him handsome, gave him an unusual feeling. How could my heart skip a beat? Its just the first day and she is already driving me crazy, he wondered.

Since there was no one around, Alexander thought it to be the perfect time to ask Becca about the potion and do his job successfully. At least that would stop him from answering her questions and her driving him crazy.

Becca, he started speaking.

She was doodling in her notebook and when he called out her name, she glanced at him with a warm smile that made Alexander have the urge to roll his eyes.

Why does she smile so much? he thought.

Yes, Alex? she let out.

I Alexander was interrupted with another voice.

Am I late? the person asked.

Alexander and Becca looked at the door.

No, Becca answered to the person while Alexander glared at him. Im Becca Hertford, by the way, she introduced herself to that person, who smiled at her.

I am Lucas Kade, said Lucas and walked towards them, avoiding the piercing glare of Alexander. Mind if I sit with you?

Of course not. Becca scooted over to Alexander, her heart saying that Lucas was a good person too because she felt the same with his presence as she did with Vanessa. Only with Alexander, her connection felt stronger than either of them. Come and sit with us.

Lucas kept his bag on the table and sat next to Becca. You are beautiful.

Thanks, Becca said with a grin. The class was supposed to start at nine but its almost ten now. I wonder why it is late. Is it because today is the first day?

I think so, Lucas answered and looked at Alexander, who was still throwing daggers with his eyes. Lucas arched an eyebrow, remembering how he had warned Alexander.

Alexanders eyes squinted in anger, understanding that Lucas wouldnt let him fulfill his task in peace.

Becca continued chatting, more like asking questions to both Lucas and Alexander, being happy that she already made two friends. She couldnt make proper friends due to her father, but now she was independent. However, she wasnt aware that everyone was selfish and talked to her just for their own selfish pursuits.

A vampire, a Lycan, and a humanthe story had already started, so did the competition over the vampire potion.
