Chapter 7. Dreaming of her

Tom was hungry again at night so it was getting late. Finally, remembering his previous experience, he approached a barbeque stall that was busy with customers before offering assistance. Luckily, he was soon accepted. However, this time it was quite different. When Tom finished work and only asked for meat in return, the stall owner refused. The middle-aged man had indeed given him a lot of meat, but he had also given him money as payment. He seemed to be in a good mood due to his sales.

Tom is happy with the meat he got. Even though he wasn't as full as the two chickens he had before, at least he could fill his hungry stomach. His energy diminished as he toured the fairgrounds and digested new information gleaned from his keen senses.

In the morning, Tom immediately returned to the market where he worked yesterday, at Karen's shop.

"You come again!" The middle-aged woman, Karen, grinned happily after being surprised for a while when she saw Tom who had been alert in front of her shop, which hadn't even opened yet.

Tom nodded in response. “I want to work here again,” he said with conviction. Even though her cold expression didn't change, one could tell she was serious.

"Okay. Of course, you can," Karen replied, looking at Tom with pity. She remembered how bad luck the handsome young man had been in front of her. Without his parents and a home, he is alone. “But, I can't give you two tails like yesterday. I will reward you accordingly.”

Tom tilted his head, looking a little dazed. "So I can't get live chickens anymore?"

“Ah, you like chicken, huh? You can buy live chickens when you earn enough money. Instead, I will feed you twice a day,” Karen explained to Tom.

He said again, “Don't worry, I won't be stingy with side dishes. Since you like chicken, then I'll feed you with chicken dishes, how about that?” asked Karen after explaining to Tom at length.

To be honest, Tom did a very good job but Karen could get almost as good a workforce without that much expense. It's just that, she still employs Tom because of her compassion.

"Not a whole chicken, but, still a chicken?" Tom suddenly thought of yesterday's roast beef stand. Will the chicken meat also be processed like that?

"Yes. Later I will cook soy sauce chicken, chicken opor, spice chicken, and others. I have a lot of delicious recipes that I got from my mother long ago. It's kind of a family recipe. I guarantee you will be addicted,” said Karen, boasting.

Tom was silent, looking at Karen without any significant change in expression.

"I'm serious! Not everyone can taste the delicacy of my cooking!” Karen didn't give up when she saw Tom who didn't seem interested. His pride was slightly hurt.

"Okay," said Tom Flatley. He decided to agree because, so after several days of trying to understand the human world with all his keen senses, he also knew how precious money was.

The offer that Karen gave was also very profitable. Although Tom didn't know what real human food looked like, he had only seen it and had never eaten it, but he had two meals which were quite a lot. While the money he gets can be used for other things. After all, he would probably be here a little longer.

"Good!" For some reason, it was Karen who felt happy.

After the agreement, the two immediately opened a shop and arranged merchandise. Buyers started arriving one by one at the shop. Tom does his job with focus. He picked up the merchandise that came at the entrance of the market and sorted the lousy vegetables like yesterday.

Karen looked at the young man who was squatting in front of the pile of cabbages and then at the girls who came to her stall while stealing a few glances at Tom. At first, she just wanted to help Tom, but, who knows if it looks like this young man brings a lot of profit to her shop. Karen felt she had to treat Tom better in the future.

"Excuse me, ma'am. I want cabbage in front of that young man!” one of the girls exclaimed.

"All right, all right!" she replied. "Tom, pack some cabbage for this lady!" She immediately refocused on responding to the buyers, who were almost all young girls.

Tom didn't answer and immediately carried out Karen's orders. He did see that there were a lot of younger girls than yesterday. There was no way he could not feel their eyes staring at him hotly. Only he didn't care.

The day is getting past noon and market visitors are decreasing. The male buyer had just left when a girl came into the shop.

“Hello, Mrs. Karen,” said a girl with straight, black hair.

Karen looked at the girl with a happy face. “Rose! How are you? I didn't see you yesterday."

"Yes, madam. I had something yesterday so I couldn't go shopping at the market," Rose answered, smiling shyly. “Are the cabbages still there? I want two kilos of chicken and two cabbages, ma'am."

"There still is. Tom, please pack some cabbage for Rose!” Karen frowned when she didn't hear any movement behind her. She immediately turned her head and found Tom staring blankly in one direction. “Tom!”

Tom was surprised by Karen's call. He immediately looked back at the middle-aged woman with a hint of confusion in his eyes.

“Wrap Rose two cabbages,” Karen repeated patiently.

“Fine,” Tom replied in a low voice and immediately waved his hand.

So her name is Rose, Tom thought, handing her the cabbage packet. He could see her shiny black hair and gentle smile as she approached. Her smile was as gentle as her voice. What was most attractive were her two clear and innocent black eyes. Just now she was mesmerized the first time she laid eyes on him.

In the afternoon, Karen was ready to close her shop. She tried several times to chat with Tom, but the young man was silent. When she turned around, she knew that the young man was asleep. Maybe Tom is tired. He immediately woke her up.

"What?" Tom wakes up in a daze and discovers the woman in front of him is Karen, not the Rose in his dream moments ago.

Ah, that girl is so great. Rose could immediately enter her dream with just one glance. Tom recalled the picture of a couple he saw last night, his heart warmed at the thought of the two characters being him and Rose. He is determined to make Rose his lover.
