3. Green Eyes

Rosé

Manuel looked at the shirt in disgust. The boy tried to say something to him but it was obvious whatever he was saying didn't get through to Manuel, whose face flushed red in anger. His eyes turned green, but that couldn't be. He didn't have green eyes.

Maybe I wasn't seeing right.

He whispered something I was too far away to hear. Robin rolled her eyes and continued talking about the fair in a few days, but I could only give her short answers. My focus was still on the two. A part of me told me that I shouldn't look away. The boy shook for some reason, then walked away from Manuel, his gaze stuck on the boy's back.

He walked all the way to the other end of the cafeteria. His legs carried him as if his body were heavy. He stopped in front of a garbage bin and remained still. My gaze shifted from him to Manuel. Manuel had a cocky smile spread along his face. When I turned back to the kid, I gasped.

His hands held the bin in place. Then, he shoved his entire upper body inside. Robin followed my gaze and groaned in disgust.

I was more than positive there was still garbage in it.

Some of the kids laughed and took pictures while someone who appeared to be his friend helped him out. Manuel's eyes met mine. He stopped smiling and frowned at me. I don't know what look I had on. Maybe one of awe? Fear? Whatever it was his gaze softened before he took his exit. It might just be all in my head, but did he say something to cause him to dump himself into a dumpster?

No matter. A guy like that doesn't deserve my time.

But...

I bit my lip.

...his eyes stopped glowing green.

Sleeping was something he had always enjoyed. It allowed him to drift into a state of relaxation that he couldn’t while he was awake. However, two years ago, he started having the same dream.

She was there with him. Tommy couldn’t resist her touch, nor could he keep her lips away from hers.

Every time her fingers trailed up his flesh tingles went along his spine. His hands seemed to melt into her soft skin. She unbuttoned his shirt and he let her, before pushing her hands away to dive in for a kiss.

As soon as their lips connected Tommy knew they were meant to go together. It was as if they were made for the other person. He dug his fingers into her curly hair and kissed her deeper. He never wanted to let go. This was perfect. This was all he wanted ever since he found out they were mates.

He was about to remove her spaghetti strap blouse when an uninvited sound disturbed his peace. It became louder and louder the closer he drew to consciousness. Then he was finally awake.

He blinked several times before turning to search for his phone. When he found it he answered it right away. His eyes quickly became adjusted to the darkness of his room. “Hello?”

“Hey, Tommy,” Manuel responded. “Sorry if I woke you up, but it’s your fault for pissing me off.”

Tommy hissed. He changed the call to video chat and placed it against the lamp on his nightstand before getting out of bed. “What’s your problem now, asshole?”

He stretched and placed one hand on his hard-on hidden under his black sweatpants. Dammit, it was getting good too. He kept his back to the screen as he walked around to the windows. Although he couldn’t see him, Tommy was sure he was rolling his eyes at him.

“‘Asshole’. How smart,” Manuel said. “Listen, tell your dog to keep his hands away from Rosé.”

“Dog? You know I don’t like mutts.” Tommy pulled the curtains open but closed them immediately. A hand shot up to his bare chest where the rays of sunlight made contact. It burned red. Within a few seconds, it healed with no sign of having been burnt on his skin. His nostrils blew out air in annoyance. He reached for a necklace with a red stone hanging off its black chain and hooked it around his neck. When he opened the curtains the second time, nothing happened to him. Although he could still feel how warm the sun was.

“What do you think I am, an idiot? Of course, I know that you don’t have a dog. I’m talking about Steve, that mongrel.”

“What did Steve do this time? Place his eating fork on the wrong side of the plate?”

“Hah, you’re hilarious. Have you ever tried stand-up comedy?”

Tommy yawned and smiled. “Yeah, I know I’m amazing.”

“Whatever. He’s been hovering around Rosé and he’s been trying to touch her. Sometimes he’s succeeding. Sometimes it’s in the halls in front of everyone. Last week, he grabbed Rosé’s butt when Denis shoved her. You know, the same morning you doused her with water.”

He froze. Maanuel face could be seen as well as his arms which were folded. “He has some fucking nerve,” Tommy muttered.

“Exactly. Which is why you need to tell him to stop.”

Tommy shook his head. “I have no problem threatening him but he’s in Denis’ pack. If anything, Denis should be the one to punish him since he’s the future Alpha.”

But why the hell is he bothering Rose? Denis gave him strict instructions not to engage with Rose unless he says otherwise.

If he gets too cocky and oversteps, I might have to kill him.

“You tell him. I can’t deal with that right now.”

He raised his eyebrow. “You have time to call me at seven to tell me, so why can’t you call him? It’s his mate too.”

“Argh,” Manuel rolled his head back. “He’ll find some way to rile me up. I can’t deal with him and his pack. Plus, I’ll be leaving soon, so-” he shrugged “-might as well cut off all contact with him anyways.”

“Wait,” Tommy sat down and picked up the phone. “You’re transferring?”

“Can I tell you something? I can’t tell Denis, that frigger will think I’m weak.”

Tommy nodded and Manuel continued.

“I can’t do this anymore, Thomas.”

The blonde didn’t need him to elaborate to know what he was talking about.

“I don’t want to hurt her or watch her get hurt anymore. Every day when I see her it becomes harder to keep my gaze away. She’s started to notice too, glaring back at me with those beautiful grey eyes of hers.”

Manuel was smiling like a dumbass but Tommy only became confused.

“Weren’t you the one hooking up with her only best friend? Right in her direct line of sight?”

His smile slipped from his face. “Look, there is a reason for it, okay? Just trust me on that.”

“I guess I have no choice.” Tommy tossed his blonde locks back and forth. “So you’re really leaving, huh?”

“It will be better in the end. If I stay here any longer, I won’t be able to hold myself back from going after her.”

Tommy nodded. He had been thinking about doing the same thing too but found himself incapable of leaving her side. The bond they shared was too powerful, so he could only stop being her friend. He told himself day after day that he was protecting her from a terrible end, and that was how he reasoned with his urges.

Manuel might consider himself weak, but what he was doing required more strength than any of the boys had. One can’t just walk away from their fated person without facing some sort of consequences.

"Alright, I'll talk to him. I promise you Steve won't go near her again. And if he does he won't live to talk about."

Manuel grinned. "Thanks. I appreciate it."

"Now will you take your ass off my phone so I can get dressed?"

He made kissy faces which caused Tommy to roll his eyes. "Aw," Manuel teased. "I missed your abs so much, how could I simply go away?"

"Shut the fuck up." Tommy hung up, but when he heard his friend laugh before hitting the red button he couldn't help but smile.
