4. Cameron The Seducer

Rosè

Robin and I made plans to hang out, but she continued to bail on me. Sometimes I would find her in corners of the school making out with Manuel. Other times it was at the park. Near the place where we hang out. I tried to be happy for her, to try to see things from her perspective, but it was hard, especially when her new boyfriend continued to laugh when his minions did things to me.

Didn’t she say she didn’t want to go out with him? So why was she hanging on to his arm when she thinks I’m not there? And Manuel with that stupid look on his face. I couldn’t say for sure, but I know he’s doing this to spite me. Why else would he look me right in the eyes when he kisses her?

I flinched even though no one touched me. I was in the library, and at this time of the day, it was as quiet as it could be with most of the students attending their last period. All except me and the other kids had a free period. But there is someone else who shouldn’t be out right now.

I checked my watch. It was about time to meet him.

Gathering my books, I said goodbye to the librarian and then made my way out. All the way to the abandoned wing.

The story of me and Cameron went back a year. At first, he was a simple minion under Tommy’s control, doing everything he said without a complaint. When Tommy said to fill my locker with baby snakes, he did it. When he was told to sit at my table, steal food off my plate then spit it all over my meal, he did it. While Tommy was the planner of pranks, Cameron was usually the executioner. Until he became my blackmailer.

Cameron learned about my father’s drug abuse. He followed me home and took pictures of me yelling at Dad and telling him that he needs to do better. Cameron came to school the next day with an envelope, handed it to me, and left. What was inside were the pictures, as well as instructions of what he wanted me to do.

I knocked on the door of the room I knew he would be in, then entered when he said to come in. There he was, sitting in a chair with a desk in front of him. His legs spread apart, covered by dark pants. I don’t know why he didn’t use the teacher’s desk but that doesn’t matter.

Cameron had hair so golden brown it almost passed for blonde. High cheekbones framed his slim face, complimenting his steel blue eyes. He didn’t have a built body like Denis, but even he had his group of supporters. He smiled as if he hadn’t seen me for months. I glared at him. He was one of the few that didn’t come after me when I bit back. And for a guy that’s blackmailing my family, I wished I could do more than bite him.

“Darling, long time no see,” he started in his husky voice. “Did you get it?”

I didn’t reply. I walked closer to him and withdrew a plastic bag out of my backpack. He waited patiently until I placed it on the desk, but I could see the excitement in his eyes. Cameron wasted no time in removing the bag and opening the box inside it. He viewed its contents, eyes widening in glee. “So you did~” He turned his gaze toward me and smirked. “I never thought you had it in you, Rosy.”

I rolled my eyes. “It’s only a phone, not a damn mansion. And don’t call me ‘Rosy’.”

“A very expensive phone at that. One you didn’t buy, now did you, Rosy?”

I tried to play it off like it was no big deal, but it was to me. I had never stolen anything in my life, but somehow I managed to steal the newest iPhone and get away from the store without anyone spotting me. There is no way I would be able to shop there again with a clear conscience. I started to leave but he stopped me. I sighed and turned to him. “What, Cam?”

“Do you think there could be a chance we could date?”

Cameron got up from his seat and stepped towards me, his tall figure towering over me. “We could be something good.” He started walking in my direction. “Don’t you think?”

“Me and you?” I scoffed. “You must be out of your bloody mind.”

I wanted to leave. I couldn’t deal with any more problems today. I was already trying to comprehend Robin’s actions, much less deal with him of all people. But I kept my cool. I might not stand up for myself but I’d be damned if I let someone like Cameron intimidate me.

He paused only a few inches in front of me, a carefree half smile planted on his face. I stared into his eyes and he stared into mine. A particular smell caught my nose, one that reminded me of winter and pinecones. It was enough to make me want to inhale more of it, even if it came from someone I despise.

“Why not? I mean you are a beautiful young lady,” says Cameron. “And I’m not too bad if I do say so myself.”

“I doubt I’m your type.” I rolled my eyes.

“I wouldn’t be so sure.” I could feel his gaze as his pupils took in my features from my toes to my head. Goosebumps appeared in every area he focused on. I couldn’t tell if they were bad, or good. “Cute feet, soft-looking legs. Hips I wouldn’t mind digging my nails into. Reddish brown hair that goes down to your waist. I like your figure too, you’re not slim like Courtney, but you’re also not as thick as the girls I usually date.” A hand went up to caress his chin and he smirked. “That only makes me more interested.”

I took one step back. “You like big girls, got it. Are looks the only thing that matters to you.”

Cameron smirked and stepped closer to me until he could whisper in my ear. The next words that came out of his mouth combined with his breath against my skin made a blush spread up my neck. “When it comes to you? No.”

I froze, not sure what to say. Does Cameron actually like me? Who am I kidding? He’s taking advantage of the fact he can mess with me to mess with me more. And if he does, would that change anything? Would Cameron defend me from his friends and be a sincere, stable person in my life?

I don’t think so. Besides, there was already someone I liked.

His eyes widen when I wrapped my arms around his neck. He should see the look on his face. I leaned forward as if I was about to kiss him. Just before connecting our lips, I changed the route and pressed our cheeks together. “Cameron, Cameron, you’re so full of shit.”

When I was done, I let him. I must have used up all my courage because I find it hard to face him. “I got you what you wanted. Do me a favor and leave me alone, yeah?”

I walked out of the classroom, determined to make my way out of the building and back to the main wing. I missed Cameron’s fingers touching the place where our cheeks touched.

It’s a good thing I left when I did. It seems the bells had rung and students were spilling out the front doors. I was supposed to meet Robin at the entrance once school ended. A little pastry shop opened recently and we had every intention to try out that blueberry cheesecake we saw on display. I stopped.

Robin and Manuel walked out of the school, hand in hand. I chuckled in disbelief. They weren’t even trying to hide it anymore.
