Chapter 4

Mariam~

I was speechless as he released me and left me alone.

Seriously, who is he? That was the scariest thing anyone has ever done to me, including at my previous school.

While helping me gather my books from the floor, Cindy asked, “Mariam, are you hurt in any way?”

“No, thank you; I'm doing fine.” I took the books with me as we got to our feet.

“I'm sorry you're going through this, Mariam.” She told me,

“What are you apologising for? I can make it to class, though I might miss the beginning of the lesson.” I told myself to keep a straight face so she wouldn't know I was nervous.

“That's not what I'm getting at; what I'm saying is that offending him is like offending the rest brothers.” She continued in a menacing voice.

“Cindy, can you please get to the point, I am quite confused by all this elaboration?”

“One of the Golden Brothers is the person you just insulted.”

“What??” I recalled Elena's advice from the day before over the phone, that I should stay away from the Golden brothers.

“You're worrying about nothing; it's just a misunderstanding, and I didn't do anything.” I warmly welcomed her with a grin and drew her along with me.

“You've just insulted one of the Golden brothers, and yet you're still smiling. They are our seniors as well, and no one will defend you if they punish you.”

“I don't have any fear of the Golden Brothers because, after all, they are just human beings, so what can they do?” I said. “Let's talk during break time, I really need to rush to class.”

“You are completely missing the point.”

“Bye.” I smiled and waved before running off to class.

I was strolling around the library after class, looking for a good book to read, when I stumbled upon the same novel that had already been touched by someone else.

“I'll let you have it.” He gave me a friendly grin.

His short blonde hair and brown eyes complement his towering stature and endearing dimples. “Why don't you have it?” I smiled back at him in return.

“It appears that we share a desire to read this book; why don't we follow my lead?”

“What would that be?”

He then said, “Let us read it together.”

“We can read it together, that sounds great.”

We sat down next to each other; “My name's Dave; what's yours?”

“I'm Mariam.”

“You must be the new student in Dranovile,” He said.

“Wow, I never realised how famous I was; now would be a great time to start a TikTok or Instagram account; I'm sure I'd get tonnes of fans.” I managed to have a conversation with someone without stumbling over my words, and he laughed.

“Oh my sweet lord you are so funny, well it's the school thing, everyone is informed when there is a new student, oh mine, I need to go, I think my class is about to start.”

“Oh, you should, but could you hold on a sec?”

He nodded and smiled, “Okay.”

“Are you a college student?”

“Yes,I'm in my second year at this point.”

“I'm sorry if I came across as condescending; I've been told that college students are not likely to befriend someone like me who is still in high school.”

He made me laugh, put his arms around me, and said,

“We can make an exception for ourselves today, sweetheart, and I promise to buy you lunch the next time we see each other.” He gave me a knowing nudge before walking away.

He is so adorable that I had to turn away from him to avoid Cindy's surprised, “Oh my God, did Dave just talk to you?”

“Yes, please don't tell me that you've come to tell me that he's another bully in the family and that he's related to the Golden brothers.”

“No, he is not; he rarely flirts with women, and I have never seen anything like this before in my life. He is not a bully but has a deep-seated animosity towards the Golden brothers.”

“Okay, then let's eat lunch together and get ready for our afternoon session.”

“Shhh.” The library's coordinator advised us as follows.

Cindy and I were giggling our way out of the library to get some lunch.

It's been a week since I started at Dranovile High School, and already I feel like a new person. Cindy and Dave are my new best friends.

Dave is incredibly thoughtful and bright, and he usually ends up assisting me with whatever homework I have at the time.

Cindy is always very outgoing and friendly, and she seems to know just about everyone at school, so she and I enjoy meeting at the library to read our favourite genre novels together.

After I was done packing, I told my grandmother, “Grandma, I am all set.”

“All right, let's get a taxi, but before we leave, please review everything I've taught you: be polite and respectful, take pride in your work, and keep a smile on your face no matter how bad things get.”

The response was, “Yes, grandma.”

We exchanged pleasant smiles before heading off to the Herndon residence.

I couldn't help but let out a big "wow," "this is heaven on earth," and "this family is fucking wealthy."

“Can you close your mouth now.” grandma said with a smile?

“I don't know how to express myself, grandma, this is a gigantic place.”

“I told you they rule this town and they are wealthy. That is one of the reasons you need to take your job seriously once you resume. Give me your bag, I will help you in.”

“I will give my best, grandma, because of them assisting with my school finance and making me feel happy again, I am going to work to the extent of not getting tired at all.”

“Good, let me help you with your bag.”

“Don't worry Grandma, I can carry my bag, I don't wish to stress you because you are old.”

“Silly child, even if I am old, I am still stronger than you.” She said,

“I won't argue with you, in fact, you look like an 18-year-old lady” We laughed and entered the building.

The door was opened by one of the guards, and we were directed to sit in the living room.

A beautiful lady came in holding the hands of a handsome man and with a smile on her face, sat down saying,“You are welcome to our home.”

“Thank you very much, ma'am, meet my granddaughter I told you about.”

“Good day sir, good day ma'am, it's an honour to be in your home.”

“She is such a pretty girl darling, I am sure our sons will like her.” She said to the man that I knew they were husband and wife.

“Yes, they will.”

“So tell me, are you enjoying your stay in Dranovile and what about School, are you getting along with the rest students.”

“Yes, ma'am, I love it here, thank you so much.”

“Good, I knew you will like it and now come with me Mariam, I will show you to your room,”

I stood up and went with her, with grandma tagging along.

We got to the room, and it was beautiful there, we could not thank her enough.

What shocked me the most was when she said, “My husband and I don't live here, just my son's but don't worry, your fees and every other thing will always be sorted out, lastly, my sons won't bite.”

I envy her son a lot. Imagine staying in this massive place alone. I can't wait to meet them and I hope they like me too.

We elaborated on other things, and they showed me around before my grandmother left, giving me some words of advice.

The couples also left saying they have an important meeting and told me the name of their sons, namely, Axel, Jett, and Diesel.

I was all alone in the house, so I had to prepare lunch because I was told they would be home in the afternoon.

I finished cooking and heard some voices, it must be them.

Not only that, but I need to serve the food in the dining room, and in doing so, I saw the triplet descending from the stairs. Oh no, he was the one I insulted when he almost knocked me with his car and also the same person who collided with me in school. Are they really triplets?

My hands were shaking, and the plate fell off my hands, did I walk into my doom?

TBC…

Will Mariam survive working for the triplet?
