Chapter 2
Caleb
Elena fucking Romano is back here. What the fuck? After our last stunt and her uncle coming to get her, we didn't think we would ever see her again. And Fat Elena has changed a lot. My eyes wander down her body, her short shorts make her legs look like she has legs for days and her arms are thin and muscular. Although I would never admit it out loud, she always had a pretty face, her long black hair and piercing blue eyes giving her a Snow White look.
"Caleb." She greets me curtly in turn. Even her voice has changed, she is so much more confident. If she had been anyone else I would have already convinced her to come to my bed.
"To what do we owe the pleasure of your visit?" I try to keep my voice as calm and collected as possible.
"I had some things to take care of around here. I think it's time I took care of the family home."
"Okay. So you're staying in your old house that's been left to rot for eight years?" Why does that make me so mad? I shouldn't give a shit, even if she was sleeping under a fucking bridge.
"Griffin was kind enough to put me up. I haven't been there yet and I didn't know what condition I was going to find the house in." She tells me with a hint of nostalgia in her voice.
Tyler sets three drinks down in front of me and I think to myself, it's time for me to slip away.
"I'll see you around then."
I can't believe that after all this time she's going to take care of this old place. I know my dad sent her uncle offers to buy it several times while she was underage but he wouldn't sell it. He sent one to Elena when she came of age but she never followed through. We wanted to make sure she didn't step foot in here again, but it looks like it's messed up.
I sit down with the guys and Theo immediately asks me who the girl I was talking to is.
"Do you remember Elena Romano?" I ask him before taking a sip of my drink.
"No fucking way," Finn replies to me, looking at her with wide eyes.
"Believe me I would have preferred to be wrong."
Theo watches her silently with something in his eyes that I don't recognize. He is the tallest and the beefiest of the three of us, he scares most people yet he is the sweetest of the three of us. He runs his hand through his blond hair a little too long and sighs.
"Water has been flowing under the bridge for a long time. I'm sure she doesn't know anything..."
"Shut up Theo," I tell him dryly. "We don't know anything and you know what it means if she does."
"So what do we do?" Finn asks, his dark eyebrows furrowed.
"So far nothing. She's going to see her parents' house and hopefully, she'll leave as quickly as she arrived."
Finn and Theo look in the same direction and following their gazes, I see that they are watching Elena and Griffin leave the bar. Standing up she looks even hotter than sitting down. She's not wearing anything extravagant, shorts and a black bodysuit and yet with her attitude and confidence she's a total bombshell. Something tells me that she is not to be trusted.
Elena
The evening I spent with Griffin made me feel good but between the road and my emotions, I was exhausted so we decided to go back home shortly after running into Caleb. He did not change always had the same black hair and the same green eyes. He had all the girls at his feet and according to his attitude that he still has today that did not have to change. I didn't take the time to look at Finn and Theo because I didn't want to risk getting caught eyeing them. One thing is for sure, their egos must have tripled since they became Alphas.
Today it is finally time for me to go back to my childhood home. I turned down Griffin's offer to come with me, giving the same explanation as Matt, this is something I have to do alone. In fact, since the whole stalking thing, I still have a hard time showing my vulnerability to people for fear that they will use it against me. I was expecting to find an Amazonian forest in front of the house, but obviously, the lawn has been mowed. I park in front of the garage and it takes me a few minutes to get out of my car. When I get out, I stand in front of the front door for a moment, reminiscing.
"Who are you?"
I turn around and see a little blond boy on a bike.
"My name is Elena, this is my house."
"Oh yeah?! I've never seen you and I often come to my grandfather's house."
"Are you Silas' grandson?"
He nods.
"Wait, does that mean you're Gemma's son?" I ask him when I realize who he is.
"Yes ma'am. Well, I have to go. See ya."
"See ya."
Wow I can't believe it, Gemma and I were in high school together, she's a year older than me and her son looks like he's five or six.
I put the key in the lock and turn, push the door open and now I'm stuck. Nothing has changed, the house is exactly as it was the last time I set foot in it, with the added dust. I don't even bother to run my finger over the furniture at the entrance because I'm not sure my lungs will survive it. I walk through the entrance and suddenly I feel suffocated as if the room was shrinking at sight, I enter the kitchen and open the French window to go out to the back. I take a deep breath and I feel the tears coming.
When I come to my senses, I sit on the terrace and look at the garden. At least, what's left of it? Mom loved flowers, I remember her crouching in the dirt taking care of her flowers. She took care of them like real people by talking to them, I even caught her smiling at them several times when they had bloomed. When I was a child, people kept telling me that I looked like her but I didn't believe it, now I realize that I look a lot like her physically but inside I have nothing of this sweet and loving woman. Caleb, Finn and Theo destroyed her many years ago.
