Chapter 7

Landon was about to leave the office. He packed all his stuff and made sure everything was in place. As he came out of his office, he noticed that Carly left her purse on the desk. He opened it, her cards and a few dollar bills were there. Just about 50 dollars. He chuckled.

How could someone be so broke? He dipped his hand into his pocket and took out a stash of cash and slipped it into her purse.

He finally left the office. He knew the direction she went when she closed from work, so he decided to go that way, in the hope that he would meet her on the way. While Landon drove, he noticed two bulky men, walking towards a figure lost in the darkness. He sighed and shook his head. The mafia gang was always so extra.

He had to find Carly soon. She couldn't have gone that far. He decided to dial her number. To his surprise, the man was the one who answered the phone, thinking it was a mere coincidence, Landon ended the call and dialed the number again. The same thing happened.

"Speak." The gruff voice came.

"What are you doing with my wife's phone?" Landon demanded.

The man laughed. "Your wife is about to become food for our boss."

Landon chuckled. He ended the call and dropped the phone in his car.

Carly was sore and afraid. She didn't know where to run, or how to escape them. The men were bigger than she was, and they looked very serious to show that they meant business. Soon, her fear turned to anger that was directed at her boss. If he hadn't pulled such a stunt, keeping her at work for so long all because he was with a woman, she wouldn't be in this state, being preyed on by dangerous men who claimed to be owed by her father.

She was now even more afraid after listening to the conversation with whoever was on the phone. She didn't know who it was that called her his wife, but she hoped the person could save her.

"Seems your husband doesn't care about you that much," Benji said. "Don't worry, I will make you feel good."

Carly gasped as she moved even further, backward. The men started to laugh as they moved closer to her.

Benji grabbed her first, and before he could pull her to himself, he felt someone grab him from behind and throw him to the wall. He landed with this and grunted in pain. Ray noticed the man behind, his face was unseen since it was covered. He brought out his weapon and the man only chuckled.

"That won't work." The man said.

Ray scoffed. "Let's find out."

Ray raised his weapon and tried to hit, but the man dodged the attack. He was faster than Ray, and Ray felt like there was something off about the man. His speed, and his strength, were top-notch. It made him feel like maybe the girl was more than she seemed as well.

"Who are you anyway?" He demanded, still trying to land a hit.

The man only chuckled without replying. He started to throw punches and the fight didn't last two minutes before Ray fell to the ground, unconscious, or dead, Carly didn't know. She only watched how her savior helped her and rescued her. She ran over to where Benji's body was and grabbed her mobile phone from him.

She stared up at him, ready to thank him, but he just turned and walked away. Before she could follow him, he had gone. Carly decided to hurry home. She walked faster and at some point, she even ran.

By the time she got home, she was extremely drained of all her energy. But the fact that the men had told her that her father owed them a lot of money, for which they either wanted to beat or rape her, it made her want to know what happened.

Jasmine came out and noticed her leaning on the door, trying to calm her breath.

"Are you okay?" She asked.

Carly jolted a little and stared up at her. She hadn't heard what Jasmine said, and she kept staring blankly. Jasmine walked over to where she was and waved her hand in her face.

"Carly?" Jasmine called. "Are you okay?"

Carly sighed and nodded twice. "I'm okay."

"Okay." Jasmine nodded. "What happened? You look... Lost."

"I... I don't know, Jas. Something doesn't feel right." Carly whispered.

Jasmine stopped again and stared at her. "Are you sure you're fine?"

"Yeah," Carly whispered.

"First, why are you whispering? Secondly, why didn't you come down for lunch? Thirdly, why are you just coming back this late?" Jasmine demanded, crossing her arms over her chest.

Carly sighed. "Jas, a lot happened. A lady came to visit Landon at the office today, and he left all his work for me. That's why I got so busy that I didn't get the freedom I needed."

"And why are you so lost? Did you guys have any rendezvous?" Jasmine asked, waggling her brows.

Carly gagged. "Never do that. Landon and I, together? Never."

"He's not so bad," Jasmine said.

Carly chuckled. "Right. Anyway, I barely survived tonight, I don't know."

"Oh, what happened? Is he that rogue in bed?" Jasmine smirked.

Carly choked on her saliva when she heard Jasmine's shameless words. "Jas, can you be serious for once?"

"Alright." Jasmine rolled her eyes. "Alright, what happened?"

"I was stopped by two men on my way home, they said my father owed them a huge amount of money, and they wanted to get it back, either by cash or by kind," Carly explained.

Jasmine stared at her. "You can't be serious."

"I am."

"How the hell did you survive that? Were they that flaky? So easy to defeat?"

"I didn't beat them," Carly confessed.

"Then who did?" Jasmine asked. "I mean, how did you escape?"

"Someone else showed up, beat them up, and helped me get away. His face was covered, so I couldn't tell who it was. And I have a feeling that I know who it is, I just don't want to believe it." Carly said.
