A REJECTION

Anna looked up at the man who’s eyes had darkened even further, her brows furrowed in confusion but yet her eyes hooded with the effect of his scent.

“What—”

“ You’re coming with me!” He interrupted harshly, “ Whether you want to or not!”

He wrapped his fingers around her rather thin wrist and pulled her forward, pulling her away from the wall towards the main door of the pack house.

Anna wasn’t sure what to think or say, it was like her entire body was moving on auto pilot as he walked, they passed by Yaakov’s corpse that had already reverted to his human form.

Blood pooled beneath her tormenter’s body and his eyes were wide open, can and empty as they were, the baby blues were still as striking as the first time she’d seen them.

What had happened was something she’d spend nights hoping and wishing for and now that it had become a reality, she had no satisfaction, none of the expected joy...Just dread, filling up her stomach and going up her throat choking her.

He was taking her away but not because he wanted to save her.

He also just called her his mate.

“Wait...I—”

“ Don’t speak!” he said, his voice sounding strained like he was resisting to strangle to life out of her and it was taking all the strength out of him.

“You don’t speak, Wolf Spirit.” He said. Never turning around to look her in the eyes.

The walked out of the pack house, the brightness of the sun was the first thing that registered as it hit her sensitive eyes, closing her eyes in an attempt to try an adjust to the light made her trip over something large but Kane caught her just in time and pulled her to his side by her waist.

It felt small against his hold, she’d never considered herself small until she was pressed up against this man with the mouth watering scent.

Shit.

What was wrong with her?

She just couldn’t get enough of it.

“Keep your eyes open while you walk,” he said to her as he let go of her waist, her body craving the warmth it was denied almost immediately.

“I tripped...” Anna retorted and turned around to point at the object in question only to be met by the sight of Jack’s headless body.

A scream of horror got stuck in her throat and caused her to choke on her own saliva instead. She coughed till her chest burned and her eyes watered, all the while, her gaze still on the body on the floor.

Never had she witnessed such a horrendous sight in her lifetime and that is saying something because she’s seen a whole lot of messed up shit.

She felt a warm but hesitant hand on her back, rubbing and trying to ease the choked gasps and coughs that racked her entire body.

Kane.

Her entire body went rigid from his touch, it was like a magic wand, the coughs ceased and was replaced with her heart pounding wildly like it intended to jump out of her chest. She turned to look at him.

He looked like he expected it, his green eyes darkened with a certain emotion she couldn’t identify and his lips pursed.

Brows furrowed and creases between them.

“Are…we really mates?”

If that were the case, that after so many year of crying and hoping that someone would save her from the torture, her fated mate would be the one to come...There maybe there was something to believe in.

But yet.

She’d seen people find their mates, she’s seen just how strong the bond is and how inseparable they become but with Kane.

He looked rather angry.

He looked like he would combust into flames at any given moment due to his rage, she could tell from his almost ragged breathing and his other hand clenched into a white knuckled fist.

He gaze bored deep into hers, stirring something deep within her that warmed up her belly and made her want to rub herself against his body. Then he closed his eyes and those feelings were gone as quickly as they came.

He turned around, held her hand and started walking again. Leaving her in silence and not bothering to answer her question.

Anna knew the answer.

From his eyes, from his scent, from his presence.

He was her fated mate.

Yet.

The dread finally consumed her as she kept walking, knowing fully well that it could happen at any given moment.

A rejection.

Kane’s steps finally slowed when they reached the edge of the pack, the one place she’s tried so many times to escape to.

There were wolves waiting, his warriors she presumed as they all remained in the wolf form and only bared their necks in submission at the sight of him.

There were at least six of him, big and majestic, their fur grey with hints of silver and their golden eyes holding the same menacing glint.

There were three SUVs behind the wolves, black as night and looked like her bridge to the next land of torture.

“Kane!” Anna called out, panicked, she stuck her feet to the floor and refused to keep walking.

“Where are you taking me?”

His name rolled off her tongue like it was completely natural, it felt right calling him out but that only seemed to incite the worst in him.

“I told you...” his eyes burned with unbridled rage, Anna flinched on impulse knowing that what would come next would be a claw to the side of her face or a heavy punch to the stomach.

Her eyes closed and she waited, not even his grip on her wrist tightened. It was still incredibly gentle, firm.

“You belong to me now,”

Then she felt his warm breath against her right cheek and her ear.

Her feet melted into a puddle and her skin broke out in goosebumps.

“You are mine.”

His deep voice was like a caress to her skin, one that made her lower belly heat up in ways she’s never experienced but yet, his scent…she couldn’t get enough of it.

Her eyes finally opened, their eyes met.

It was like electricity.

The sparks almost made her jump.

“You will go wherever I take you,”

“And if I say no?” Ann raised her chin in challenge. Something she never knew she had in her.

“Then…” he placed a warm finger on her lips, bringing it down slowly to her neck and getting so close to her face that their noses almost touched and she could smell the mint and vanilla from his breath.

“…I will have to take what I want…” he touched her chest, “…by force,”

A gasp left her throat as his finger came against her bare skin, setting it alight as it went.

The corner of his lips twitched and then curled up into a smirk that was offensively smug.

“But something tells me...” then his finger left her chest and went back to her lips, the rest cupping her face and bringing her closer to him.

“…that won’t be a problem,” he whispered against her lips.
