Chapter 2

Cyn’s POV

I woke up with Helena’s feet in my face. Ew.

I slapped them away and sat up, rubbing my face.

“Bitch, get up!” I yelled in her ear. She bolted upright, looking side to side confused.

I smiled at her, “make me hot, bitch.”

To say she had fun would be an understatement. She dressed me in light blue skinny jeans, a black crop top, she straightened my wavy blonde hair and gave me a smoky eye. Even I had to admit I looked pretty good.

“Damn girl, are you single?” She whistled at me. I laughed at her antics.

“Unfortunately yes, now let’s get a move on before I’m single and failing school.” I told her.

We met downstairs after she got ready and she walked with me today. Alex was nowhere to be seen.

“Do you think he walked to school with Jessica?” I asked her.

“Don’t worry about him. Remember, you’re hotter than hell. You don’t need Alex.” She said.

I nodded, she was right after all.

honk, honk

I turned around to see Josh driving up.

“Need a ride ladies?” He rolled the window down and asked.

“Sure,” I answered for both of us. Helena was still glaring at him, probably because he ignored her yesterday.

“Ahem.” She said when she entered the car.

“Nice to meet you, Helena.” He greeted through the rear view mirror.

She rolled her eyes at him, “nice to meet you too, Joshua.”

“Just Josh, please.” He said.

Helena then got an evil glint in her eye. “No problem, JOSHUA.” She emphasized.

“Okay wolfy,” he cheekily said. I saw her smile turn into an instant frown.

“Okay calm down, you two.” I told them both.

After a few minutes of silence we arrived at school.

“Thank you, Josh.” I told him.

“No problem, I can give you a ride anytime you want.” He said.

Helena rolled her eyes and walked off.

“Sorry, I’m not sure what her problem is.” I told him as we walked to class.

“Not everyone is as welcoming as you,” he told me.

“I see. Well I apologize on their behalf,” I answered.

He smiled lazily, “that’s not your responsibility.”

We walked in and sat down in our desks. Once again the teacher let us get into our pairs to work on our project. When the bell rang we all rushed to exit the room.

“What are your plans after school today?” Josh asked me when we broke free from the throngs of students.

“Probably sit around and do nothing,” I laughed.

He turned around suddenly to face me, “let’s work on our project. You can come over if you want.” I thought it over and decided I’d much rather face a house full of vampires versus accidentally run into Alex. I don’t know what his deal is but I haven’t seen him at all today at school.

“Sure,” I smiled up at him.

After school I got into his car and we drove off into town until we reached a lake house. His house was right on the cusp of town. It had huge picture windows covering almost the whole house. From the outside all you could see were the large curtains.

“Well, here we are.” He said. I hopped out and grabbed my backpack before following him in.

“I’m home!” He called out. For the moment, the space seemed empty.

“I guess no one is home?” I asked.

“Don’t be so sure about that.” I heard a voice whisper into my ear softly, making me jump.

“My god! You scared me!” I yelled.

The stranger gave a hearty laugh until I thought he would die from lack of oxygen.

“Ooof sorry, Josh didn’t tell us that he was bringing home such a gorgeous girl. Brother, you need to learn to describe people better.” The man chastised him.

“Shut up, Garrett!” Josh hissed at him.

Josh grabbed my hand and pulled me the opposite direction until we finally reached a room that I presume was his.

“So this is it. Where the magic happens.” He chuckled.

In the corner I noticed a guitar leaned up against a bookcase. “You play?” I nodded towards it.

“Yeah, maybe I’ll play for you sometime.” He said.

I looked around, taking his room in, he had a queen sized bed against one wall, a tv with game consoles attached, a large bookcase filled with several books, a desk and set of dresser drawers. There was a couple doors to the right, I assume one was for a closet and the other probably for a bathroom.

“Looks quite magical.” I told him.

He sat on the bed and then beckoned me to sit next to him. I approached warily before sitting down on the spot he patted.

“So…” I started.

“So…” he continued. At this rate, we aren’t going to accomplish anything.

“Do you want to work on the project?” He asked. I looked at him confused, I thought that was the point of being here.

“What else would we be doing?” I asked.

He seemed to sigh quietly, “nothing. Go ahead pull out your textbook and we can share.”

We worked on our project for a couple of hours until the light outside began to recede.

“I should probably head home soon, it’s starting to get dark out and I’m starving.” I told him.

“Oh! Stay for dinner!” He said quickly.

“Do you eat food?” I couldn’t help but ask.

He said, “pssshhh of course, it just doesn’t do anything to sustain us. But every once in awhile I feel like I must eat a cheeseburger.”

I laughed, “same.”

We exited his room and he led me to the kitchen where there was an older lady.

“Hey mama,” Josh greeted the woman. She whirled around from the sink where she was standing.

“Oh! Joshie! You brought home a girl! And such a pretty one, too. Hello dear, I’m Joselyn, it’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” She then approached and enveloped me in a hug.

“Oh hello, ma’am.” I said as she patted my back.

“Please call me Joselyn. I’m sure you’ll meet my husband at some point, he’s working right now.” She said.

“Oh what does he do?” I asked.

“He’s an orphanage director.” She proudly said.

“That’s amazing!” I exclaimed in awe.

“Yes, he’s the very best. We’re hoping Garrett or Josh take over for him when they get of age but so far it seems that Josh is the most likely. He’s the one the kids like best.” She said.

I looked at Josh in a whole new light. I would’ve never envisioned him as someone who takes care of orphaned children.

“Mom, Cyn is hungry. Is there anything to eat in the fridge?” He asked.

“Oh dear, I think there’s a frozen pizza or something. Would that suffice?” She asked worriedly.

“Sounds perfect, thank you Joselyn.” I smiled at his mother, thankful for her easy going hospitality.

She popped it in the oven and then said she’d call us when it was ready. Josh directed me to the living room where we sat on the couch, waiting on the food.

“So why are you able to walk out in the sunlight?” I asked. I couldn’t help myself, the curiosity was killing me.

He smiled before lifting his hand and showing me a ring on his finger. “I have this special ring that was made by a witch. It allows my family and I to walk in the sunlight.”

“That’s wonderful!” I said truthfully.

We sat chatting for awhile until the pizza was ready.

“Thank you so much!” I told his mother when she brought it out for us to eat.

“You’re too polite!” She exclaimed before giving me a wink. I smiled at her and picked up a piece to take a bite, moaning at the ooey, gooey cheesiness.

“Calm down, Cyn,” I heard Josh laugh next to me. I growled at him and continued eating to my heart’s content.

“You don’t want any?” I asked him but he shook his head no before watching me eat. I did my best to ignore him but I felt like he was burning a hole in the side of my face with his staring.

“Do I have anything on my face?” I asked.

“No, sorry.” He turned his head and I swear the tips of his ears were red like he was blushing. I smiled at the thought and continued my assault on the pizza in front of me. I ate the whole thing before I was satisfied. Thank goodness for werewolf genes.

“It’s getting late, I’ll take you home now,” he said.

“Ok thanks,” I replied.

I grabbed my stuff, we went out to his car and then he took me home.

“Tell me everything!” Helena exclaimed as soon as I stepped into the pack house.

“What are you talking about?” I said, “we just worked on our project. What did you think I was doing?”

“Puh-lease. He looks at you like you’re good enough to eat.” She exaggerated a biting motion with her mouth.

“We’re just friends.” I insisted.

“No girl, he likes you. He seriously ignores everyone else. All the popular chicks have tried hitting on him but he just walks away from them without saying a word. It’s like he has eyes only for you. Which is a little weird, you’re not popular.” She mused. I threw my shoe at her, “hey!” She cried out when it hit the side of her head.

“Don’t be rude to me or I won’t let you borrow my anime subscription passwords anymore.” I threatened.

She gasped loudly, “you wouldn’t dare!” I glared at her, “try me bitch.” He both looked angrily at each other until I finally cracked a smile and we ended up laughing.

“I love you, bitch.” I told her. She grabbed me in a big hug, “I love you too, bitch.”
