Chapter 2

ARIA

Once his warning is over, he walks away and joins the car. When we get to the apartment, I look out the window and the car pulls away.

“I’m making tea and you’re going to tell me about it, okay?” Riley tells me from the kitchen.

I sigh. “Okay but let me change first.”

I go into my room and throw my bag on the bed. I take off my black jeans and the bar t-shirt and put on leggings and a sweatshirt. I tie my long black hair in a messy bun and join Riley in the living room.

She joins me on the couch with our hot drinks and I tell her the chronology of events since I left the bar by telling her all the details.

“Mine?” She asks, confused.

“Well that’s what I think I heard but honestly I was so shocked that I may not have understood what he said.”

For a moment she frowns as if having an inner conversation then turns her attention back to me.

“Yeah, maybe you misunderstood.” She takes a sip of her tea. “Still, be careful, Austin is right, we don’t know this guy or what happened to him.”

“Well, he was hurt, so maybe he’s a victim. Plus he was naked. Who would mug people naked?”

“Some nutcase.” She answers without hesitation.

“Yeah, you’re probably right. I’ll be careful.” I reply thoughtfully.

This story is crazy, a naked guy in an alley with his arm covered in blood. I deduced it was his but maybe. Maybe he got naked because he threw away his clothes covered in his victim’s blood. I have to stop rambling, it looks like I’m playing a game of Clue.

“I’m going to bed.” I throw to Riley before getting up from the couch.

We live in a cozy little apartment, we have an open living room with a kitchen, we share a bathroom, which connects to each of our bedrooms.

I lie down on my double bed and stare at the white ceiling. As soon as I close my eyes I see those piercing blue eyes. I close my eyes again and see Austin and the look on his face when he warned me. I think I’m going crazy. I need to sleep and not to think about these guys.

AUSTIN

“He told her what?!” I ask completely in shock to Riley.

“Keep it down, you’ll wake her up.” She replies to me. “You heard me right, Mine.”

“You think this guy could be her mate?” David asks.

I pace back and forth, running my hands through my hair in their small living room.

After dropping the girls off, David and I went back to the alley to try to track down this rogue but we couldn’t track him down and after getting the information from Riley we came to their house. When I saw Aria it was a no brainer, I knew she was mine. I felt what I never thought I could feel, I was attracted to her. Not just physically, my whole being and my soul were attracted to her.

“Stop talking nonsense.” I growl.

“Well what? We’ve seen humans and werewolves be mates before.” He looks at me for a moment. “Are you jealous?”

I glare at him and he looks down. We may be friends but I’m his alpha and he knows his place.

“She was shocked, she thinks she may have imagined it.” Riley sighs. “And we all know humans don’t feel the bond like we do, so we won’t be able to know what he told her is true.”

“Yeah, and she’s the only one who’s seen him in human form. We’ve only seen his wolf.” David adds.

I close my eyes and shake my head. I think the Moon Goddess is playing me because of Rachel. I never thought I would meet my mate and it has to fall on a human who saw a fucking naked guy just before me, who told her she was his. Just thinking about it makes me want to rip his head off even more.

After reminding Riley that she needs to keep an eye on Aria, David and I set out on our way to return to the pack.

“Are you going to tell me what’s going on?” He asks me once we’re in the car.

“Nothing.”

“Okay I see.” He looks out the window. “Tomorrow… Well tonight Riley and I are going to the bar where Aria works to keep an eye on her.”

I nod.

“It’s a good thing Riley doesn’t work there because I’d freak out. Honestly have you seen the mini t-shirt she has to wear? And the guys must be just ogling her because she’s clearly a pretty girl. Well, if it’s just looking...”

He doesn’t have the opportunity to finish his sentence because I brake on the low side. My blood runs cold and my wolf growls at me to rip his head off. I wouldn’t stand for anyone talking about her that way. I grip the steering wheel with both hands to keep myself from hitting him… or worse.

“Holy shit I knew it.” He sneers. “She’s your mate. She’s your fucking mate.”

“That’s not funny.” I growl.

“You should be happy. You’d been desperate to find your real mate.” He pauses. “Is it because of Rachel?” He asks.

“Don’t talk about her.” I say in a low voice as I grip the steering wheel tighter.

“Okay.” he simply replies and we drive on without a word.

I should be happy, he is right. I know what I felt when my eyes landed on that little brown-eyed brunette. I did my best not to let my eyes linger on her body. She is perfect, she has a perfect chest, perfect buttocks, perfect legs. Just thinking about it makes me feel cramped in my jeans. I clear my throat and focus on the road. When we pass the border of the pack I relax, we cross the forest and we start to see the houses. If Aria was one of us it would be easier, I would have taken her with me and locked her in the pack house. Not to mention that I would have marked her already.

I park in front of the pack house, which was completely renovated five years ago to give it a more modern look. Honestly it looks like a high class hotel and I’m proud of it. And we had a mural done tracing the history of our species that we had installed in the lobby.

“Meeting. In my office. Now.” I tell David and all my closest advisors through the mind link.
