Chapter 6

Lucas

Damn! She was fire which was something i wasn't expecting at all. I knew she was harsh and all shades of scary but what i didn't know was that she was this tough. She was a literal, breathing, living dragon. The way she looked at me was hot and if i had my way, i would have her there and then because she made me feel things that no woman had ever made me feel before in my entire life. Just who was this lady and what was she doing to me? Her long jet black hair was elegantly tied in a high ponytail, leaving her face bare and free. We stared at each other and even a blind person could feel the sexual tension radiating between us. It was epic!

''I believe you have the wrong office and it would be nice if you kindly get the fuck out of here.''

The men around mummured due to her choice of words. I smiled inwardly because unknowingly, she had set herself up for more problems. She should have just kept quiet because everything she said would lower her chances of ever being the CEO of the Barclay empire.

''Leave! I don't know who you are.'' she seethed.

''Excuse me, what is really going on?'' a voice asked.

We both turned in unison to see one of the board members look at us with irritation in his eyes. I remembered him to be one of the men that always had problems with Stewart when he was still alive. He always liked to prove that everything he said or did was the truth and the final thing.

''We need to settle this.'' another voice said.

''If what Mr Bell is saying is the truth, then Kiara you need to sit down and listen to him.'' another added.

There was rage in her face which just made her look all the more beautiful. She sat down finally, placing her head on her hands. It wasn't in my intention to make her feel this way but this had to be done and i hoped that in the long run, she would see why i did this.

''Thank you for granting me audience.'' i said.

I took the seat directly opposite her and i knew i had to get down to business as soon as possible. As it stood, all of their patience was wearing thin and they needed to get on with this so that Stewart could be buried.

''Once again, please accept my condolences. Stewart wasn't only my friend, he was a father to me, a friend and a confidant. Anytime he visited the golf court, we would always trade stories and he never failed to crack me up.''

I glanced at Kiara and the pain in her eyes broke my heart. She was really her father's child and it hurt me to think that she would never see the man she loved anymore. He would be gone forever, out of her reach.

''But this company must move on and that is why i am proposing to buy it. You see, just a few weeks Stewart died, he confided in me about the fate and status of this company and looking at the reports of the past one year, i can confidently say that this company is in a serious financila crises. The stocks are plummeting and the banks would be closing in on us pretty soon. He told me in secrecy that he needed me to take over just until the company is back on its feet with Miss Barclay as the rightful heire-''

My words were cut off by her an angry retort. She rose up to her feet angrily, swearing at me. There were tears in her eyes, tears that she wanted to shed but she was too sturbborn to shed them. She was proud and i loved her for it.

''You liar! Why would my father entrust such information to you and leave me in the dark. I am his daughter for crying out loud and don't you think it should have been me who should have gotten that information?'' she shouted.

Even when she was riled up, she was still drop dead gorgeous which made her all the more hotter. The boardroom was silent now as i felt all eyes on me. They wanted to know my take on this and i couldn't afford to be seen or be termed the looser. I needed to tell them everything and everything was what i would tell them.

''Maybe if you were very observant and you cared for him like you should he would have confided in you. But instead, what did you do? You partied and went for events all around the world. You are his only child but were you ever there for him when he needed you the most?''

Silence greeted me as soon as i was done. I knew that everyone was thinking about what i said but i wasn't bothered, i had revealed everything that happened and if Kiara had half a brain she would think about what i said.

''So you see Miss Barclay, you weren't there for your father and i stepped in. As a matter of fact, you should be thanking me for stepping in.'' i added.

Kiara sat down back, staring at nothing in particular. I knew i had hit her but in that moment, i felt no pity for her. As a matter of fact, i was angry at her. How could she do that when her father was literally dying. It was just so insensitive.

''We still need to make a decision before we bury Mr Barclay.''

''Whatever you all decide but i want you all to know that i will honor Mr Barclay's memory by doing what he asked me to do and i would do it even if it was the last thing i did.'' i said, rising up to my feet.

I glanced at Kiara one last time before storming out of the boardroom. I had delivered my message and now, i waited for the results.
