CHAPTER TWO

The Dynastria continent is inhabited by both humans and other creatures alike. Down the northwest is the territory of vampires and werewolves. The land was dived into two equal parts, Viserryan for vampires and Wolfendon for wolves.

Vampires and wolves were coexisting during the time of the earlier generations. It wasn’t until the last century that the vampires started hunting down wolves and killing them. Due to their immortality, they desired more land and coveted the position of being supreme over the northwest.

Over the years, the wolves have suffered losses as it wasn’t as easy for them to kill a vampire as a vampire would them. The vampires have managed to gain seventy percent of the land, leaving the werewolves with thirty percent.

Wolfendon had unrest ever since the increasing loss of land Which resulted in different packs going against each other to gain more territory and resources.

The most powerful pack was the blackwood clan which still have an edge over the other packs. The alpha of the blackwood clan was also the leader of the Alphas council.

Leading the Blackwood clan was Keldon Blackwood, as his father stepped down from the leadership position and went into seclusion. His sisters Koryn and Nyra were Alpha and Beta respectively.

Right now Keldon was still comatose. Koryn was still training in the training grounds, she has gathered some amount of the warriors and was using them as her sparing partners.

She just finished defeating one of them when she called out in a loud voice “Next!”

The warriors were frightened, even though they won’t die, they don’t want to feel pain, but those who dared to disobey her, they have no choice but to obey. One of the warriors stepped out and Koryn immediately attacked him.

Her fist was about to engage with the warrior when someone grabbed her hand from behind. It seems like Nyra was already watching from afar, seeing that Koryn was about to fight with another warrior she had no choice but to rush there with swift movements.

“I thought you disliked using your speed, it drains your energy” Koryn unclenched her fist and withdrew her hand from Nyra’s firm grip.

“Well I have already used it today in the forest, one more time won’t hurt”. Nyra looked at the warriors, they looked as if a messiah has come to save them. She signaled them to leave and ran out as if they were running for their lives.

“I’m still training, why did you permit them to leave?”. Koryn walked to the bench beside the training ground and sat down.

“You should allow them to rest, everyone has already been through a lot today”.

“Hey, I specifically selected those that were around the town, not those that went out today. I am not so heartless”.

“So you do admit that you are heartless”. Nyra chuckled.

Koryn fell silent. Did she far? She was looking for a way to distract herself. Seems like she has given the warriors another reason to avoid her.

“Do you think working yourself out like this will solve this issue?" Nyra asked with her arm crossed before her.

“This is the only way I can think of to distract myself”. Koryn said nonchalantly.

“Do you blame yourself? It’s not your fault. Even if you were here, what happened might have still happened anyway”.

Koryn clenched her fist in anger “I would have still done something if only I hadn’t sneaked out to see my friend in Howling moon clan”.

Nyra sat beside her and held Koryn’s hand. “Stop saying that, you are not able to predict the future. It’s not your fault”.

“Those bastards! I’ll make them pay” Koryn’s eyes glinted as golden streaks flashed through her brown eyes.

“Hey, hey, calm down. Don’t do anything impulsive. We have to come up with something to retaliate. Don’t just go running off on your own”. Nyra noticed the changes in her eyes and she was so sure that Koryn would run off sooner or later to Viserryan on her own. A lone wolf in a place full of vampires won’t certainly end well.

“I’m not stupid, I won’t do anything without carefully planning my moves”. Koryn smiled brightly.

Nyra looked at her and noticed her bright smile, she looked so innocent but she knew that Koryn was anything but innocent.

“Alright, let’s head back”. Nyra decided to keep an eye on her.

They got up and walked back to the Packhouse. They were already outside the training grounds when Nyra noticed something from the side of her eyes.

“Go on without me, I’ ’ll be right back”.

Before Koryn could say anything, Nyra was already long gone. She sighed, this was the third time Nyra was running fast in one day, should she be happy or concerned? Nyra is one relaxed werewolf who doesn’t like working up herself, she preferred using cars. She shook her head and continued heading back to the house.

Nyra was already inside a café, and her eyes scanned the tables looking for someone. Seeing the person she was looking for, she walked up to him with her eyes flaming in anger.

“What do you think you are doing Lucan?” Nyra asked immediately as she got to the table.

Lucan, a dark-haired werewolf was sitting at the table with a blonde female which she doesn’t recognize.

“Calm down Nyra, let’s talk this out” Lucan was visibly startled, he wasn’t expecting to see Nyra.

“What are we talking about? explain this situation to me now”. Nyra was not in the mood to talk calmly.

“The others can hear us”. Lucan looked around nervously, as he thought, eyes were already on them.

“Even if we whisper, they would be able to hear us anyway. What’s the use?”

“Let’s go outside”. Lucan got up and made a move for Nyra to walk out.

Nyra took long breaths to calm herself, then she went out of the café. Lucan turn to the girl beside him, her face was laced with confusion.

“She is the female werewolf I told you about, don’t worry I will solve everything now”. He kissed her on the forehead and walked out.

Nyra was already standing outside, staring at him fiercely. He stopped in his tracks and moved with harder steps. Nyra is an Alpha and he is a beta. Does it seem like she was releasing her anger unintentionally due to her anger or was it intentional? His back was drenched with sweat, he was struggling hard to stand firm.

Seeing his determination to stand firm even as beads of sweat were already drizzling down his head, Nyra withdrew her aura. Seems like he was determined to prove his stance.

“Now what is your perfect reason for you to go out with another female behind my back”. Nyra asked grimly.

Lucan looked at her, her brown hair was swaying with the wind, and her blue eyes which were usually twinkling as the night sky were raging like flames.

He took a deep breath “It’s much more complicated than you think”.

“I have never seen her in this pack. Where is she from?”.

“She is from the Luna pack”

Nyla’s eyes widened in surprise, “That pack has conflicted with us for a long time now. What gave you the courage to take a female there?”. Nyra growled.

“She is my mate”. Lucan said softly.

“What do you mean?” Nyra was stunned.

“I meant it”.

“How is it possible? You are already past twenty. You can’t get a mate after twenty. That was why we got together. How did you get a mate of a sudden?”.

“I think there are exceptions to every rule, and I guess I am one of those rare exceptions”. Lucan said calmly.

Seeing the way he was talking so calmly, Nyra was heartbroken. He looked so different. “What about me? What will happen to me?”. Nyra tonelessly.

“I did care about you, we are werewolves; we are naturally possessive so I was o let you down but this one is inevitable. I can’t abandon my mate for you. The bond of mates is something else, it felt like I have known her forever”.

Nyra didn’t feel comforted one bit, it only felt like he was rubbing it on her face.“How long?” Nyra was afraid to ask but she had to.

“Last month” Lucan answered quietly. He could feel the temperature around them drop. She was very angry.

“Last month? How come I didn’t notice?”.

“I usually go to her pack to see her”.

Nyra closed her eyes in pain, how did she not notice it? He has been avoiding her recently and she thought he was just busy.

“I screwed up all right, but I never once lied to you. I just had no other choice”. He simply avoided her because, she would have been able to pick up another female’s scent from him, immediately after he goes close to her.

“Never once lied? Not telling me about it and leading me on is considered a lie too”. Her lips trembled slightly.

“I was planning to tell you, it just wasn’t the right time”.

“When will you tell me then, next month? or a year later? Or were you simply afraid that I would harm your little mate?”.

Seeing how he was silent, Nyra smirked “I am not that possessive to the point of being stupid”.

“I can guarantee that you won’t do anything but your sister is on a whole different level. What if she hurts Orla?”.

Nyra was pissed “How dare you to talk about her in that manner? You think she is just some impulsive wolf who acts without thinking? She is not that low”.

Seeing how she was so defensive, Lucan took a step back and raised his hands in surrender. “I didn’t mean it like that but she is very fierce…”

“Enough!” Nyra said curtly. “I wish you well”.

Before Lucan could say anything else, Nyra was already gone. He felt the wind of her movement brushing past his face. He stood there for some time before heading back to the café.

~Packhouse~

It was nightfall. Koryn got up from her bed and walked to her balcony. From the third floor, she looked at the sky, the moon was hidden behind the clouds but a river of stars was sprinkled in the sky which glittered in velvety.

She looked down and observed her surroundings when she heard a soft voice in her sub-consciousness “What are you planning this time?”.

Koryn chuckled. It was the voice of her wolf. She was quite surprised when she heard her wolf speak for the first time. It seems like she was the only one who could speak to her wolf because has never heard anyone talking about it before, so she kept it secret, none knows about it.

“You know me more than anyone, did you think I would simply let what happened today slide?”

“I knew it was definitely unlike you to be so quiet. But why did you wait till night to make a move? They are vampires, they walk at night”.

“That’s the reason why I waited till night? What’s the point of fighting them during the day when they would be busy hiding from the sun? It’s no fun” She ran her tongue over her teeth, her brown eyes dark and menacing.

“Let’s go, what are you waiting for?”. The wolf was excited.

“Don’t even think about howling, do you want to wake up the whole pack?”. Koryn warned her wolf. She felt like the wolf would howl anytime soon. She was the one going for a fight but her wolf was more excited.

“Why are you getting all worked up?”.

“I have been itching for a fight”. The wolf said excitedly. That was one thing they had in common. Fights!

“Let’s go” Koryn jumped down from her balcony swiftly and ran into the night, leaving the town behind in a blur.
