Chapter 3

"Don't you know the benefits of being the ruler of all seven kingdoms, I don't know why you would despise and hate so much power!" Adelia chuckled as she imagined the sort of power she had control over after she became the queen.

"I am already called a witch and I might be called a devil if I am to even step into the throne. Just find someone more suitable." Audrey protested as she wrapped one of her curls around her finger. Her mother sighed and she finally knew how stubborn her daughter was.

"You are a ruler, and you shouldn't care about what other people may say. Your tutor would come early in the morning so don't sleep late. You are a princess so you should behave like one." Her mother declared finally and went back inside.

The conversation ended with the clapping of heels against the floor. Audrey could not believe that what she just said was not just ignored, it was thrown to the side. She could not think that her words did not matter anymore.

Walking back to her room, she reminisced about her life and how her parents were so loving to her when she was little. They brought the best teachers to tutor her, and even gave her, her very own wet nurse, who died of sickness.

She wondered that if her wet nurse was here, would she have understood things from perspective. She wished she could just get away from the palace and start an adventurous life.

When she finally reached her room, she found that someone was in her chambers. She stealthily tried to discern the person who walked into her private chambers and when she finally saw the person in a closer view, she realized it was the same man who had saved her from the pit, at least that was what she thought.

She huffed and walked in proudly.

"So if it isn't the man who left me in the pit," she jeered as she walked towards her bed in a slow yet fast manner while throwing her feet to and fro, the man's eyes didn't linger away from her, as he lazily stared at her while he was siting on a wooden chair.

"You didn't realize I was the one who brought you to that garden so that people could find you, you are supposed to be thanking me by now don't you think so?" he said as he rolled his eyes at her. Audrey raised an eyebrow and snickered.

"Then I thank you very much, what do you want?" she asked straightforwardly as she sat beside him. It was already a crime for a man to be in a female room, much less a princess, so she was quite sure that he didn't come here for any unnecessary reason.

"I will help you run away from here, are you ready to take my hand?" he asked her as he walked forward towards her and stretched his hands forward, Audrey gasped and she wondered how he knew she wanted to fled the palace.

"Who are you really?" she asked as she tried to not look into his eyes and forced her mind to not think about anything. The young man flashed an innocent smile before leaning closer to her in a flirting manner, she had never been close to a man before.

Her instincts where telling her that this man was here for something very important.

"Don't worry about it, you’re too scared to take my hand, so I won't force you, but I will pave a part for you, meet me at the left path that leads to the inner blue forest by midnight." after he said that, he disappeared like a wind.

Audrey jumped up so frightened as she beat her chest to calm down her anxiety, she wondered if that was a ghost, but why would a ghost come and see her and even help her to escape was there something she was missing.

"Strange" she pondered as she finally calm down, she opened the curtains blocking the view of her bed and slumped her tired body on the bed, she definitely had an awful day.

Audrey thought of what the man said and drifted off to sleep. It was not that she didn't want to escape, it was just that she didn't want to meet that mysterious man or ghost or whatever creature he was.

She felt like his aim was not to help her but to get her...

Audrey didn't know why she suddenly woke up from her sleep, and the sleep never came back again, so she decided she would leave the palace today, she didn't want to attend another class for been a good ruler.

This time she made sure she had the right materials, she opened one the drawers near her bedside, as she smiled eerily at what was inside. This was something she got when she went to explore the town.

She never thought she would use it again and she just couldn’t believe her current situation. She took out the baggy, black pants and a long coat that reached up to her calf, while also wearing one of her chemise that was high collar. She made sure to tie her hair in a bun and hide it inside a black cap.

She looked at herself in the mirror, arranged a strand of hair that looked astray, then she twirled around, she enjoyed seeing herself in men's clothing, this way no one would know that she was the one, after she dressed up she put on a mustache.

She opened her door slightly, to check if there was any maid in sight, but there was none, there used to be maids at her door everytime or guards, but since this was the palace, they tightened the area just outside the palace and beside each window.

Audrey tipped her toe as she closed her door quietly, the palace is a very big place, a castle to be precise and she wondered how she would escape. She walked through the lonely and quiet pathway and made sure her horse skin boots didn't make a lot of noise.

When she finally made it outside, she found that they were so many guards, especially in the treasury part, She wanted to get some money she could from the treasury.

This is her first time going outside she would not want to miss out from the things she could do with money.

Audrey kept on looking for ways she could sneak into the treasury, there were three guards patrolling round the treasury. She bit her lower lips in frustration, how can a princess run away from the palace without money, she was determined to leave the castle.

She did not even realize there was a little boy with a stick clutched against his chest, standing right behind her. She was looking left and right, it was then she realized someone was behind her and she turned her head a little and she found the little guy blinking innocently at her.

"Hey boy, shh, don't tell your mum I’m here okay?" she whispered softly to the boy, the latter tilted his head to the side and then looked straight again, and nodded. She heaved a of sigh relief but what happened the next second made her heart beat!!!

The little boy tilted his head to the left side and said in a loud voice, "Mother!! there is a suspicious person here!" the little voice echoed through the clear skies, Audrey didn't have the time to think.

She immediately dashed out of where she originally was, she did not know where the child came from, all she knew when running back to her room, was that she was been chased, she found her room and quickly ran into the room.

She closed the door and leaned by the door, as she slumped to the floor, with her head buried on her knees, she huffed and puffed, then her huffs got stuck in her throat when there was a light knock on her door.

She immediately went to remove what she was wearing and slumped into her bed, and covering her body with the quilts, right when she just did that, one of the maids came to check in the room. She used the key and opened the door, but she was glad she found that the princess was in her bed.

Audrey opened her eyes, when she found that the door was closed, she breathed roughly and even went to drink some water that was always kept beside her bed, her first mission to escape was ruined.

The mere thought of her starting lesson tomorrow, scared her, but then she just had to so she could do something the next night.

The wind blew and the sound of rocking chair, echoed in the silent room, she raised her head up and saw the same man from earlier that night, was rocking on the stool without it falling down, she pursed her lips.

"I enjoyed the part you were running the most, it was so interesting" he chuckled, it was then she realized he was there all along!

"Don't worry I will try again tomorrow, and I will be successful" she proclaimed!
