Chapter 5

"Hello Richie" Joey cooed at the abrasive man that sat behind the expensive desk. "Do me the honor of being my guest at my birthday dinner, please?" she informed President Williams.

"What?" the egocentric man asked her in a humdrum tone without lifting his eyes from the work he currently had his attention on. As if he didn't hear what she said the first time.

"Today is my birthday, I have a dinner party later at..." Joey was saying when the man interrupted her.

"Happy birthday Joey, but I am not showing up for your party" he replied abruptly. Joey was silent, waiting for him to state the reason for his decision, and he did when he felt she had stalled her own reply, or abrupt exit from his office long enough.

"I have a lot on my plate, there's too much to do to be attending any parties" he said in a cold, harsh tone that sent a chill through Joey's spine.

Joey could not understand why Richard would not ever bring himself to accommodate her into his reality the way she wanted. Every other man that she came across in and outside the country was head over heels for her, and would do anything to have Joey look their way in a manner that was romantic, and just plain mutual and friendly, but not Richard. He was different. He was hell-bent on not giving her a piece of himself.

Supposedly, Joey did him a grand favor by offering her body to Richard five years ago, at least, so he thought. That was the only reason she had access to him in the first place, because as at the point when he supposedly defiled her, it was very much-needed for him. Apart from that, Richard showed no interest in Joey at all, and he had proved it repeatedly by consecutively turning down her birthday invitations four times.

Tears filled Joey's eyes as a result of this recent rejection. Before she showed up in his office, her instinct told her that she might get rejected again, but she ignored and buried the constant nagging that her mind kept telling her.

"Okay, it's cool" Joey replied. Richard Williams had helped Joey achieve her dream of whatever she wanted out of life, and he was ready to do more for her, he made her a queen in the city, and the country as a whole, but he was emotionally detached, and no matter how hard Joey tried to make him her king, he was just not interested and available to her. That Kingly position in her life she so desperately wanted from him was constantly denied her.

"So? can I be of help in any other way?" President Richard asked her, eventually raising his head a bit to reveal his mysterious face. President Richard Williams was the epitome of sexiness. When he looked up at Joey, he pierced into her soul with his eyes so full of depth and darkness, she had to dart her own eyes away as a result of the intensity of his stare. His cold and monotonous tone sent shivers down Joey's spine, constantly giving her a rude awakening that he was not emotionally available for her. His features were godly and divine. A chiseled face that had the sharpest lines and curves, as if he had been sculpted by a master sculptor for several years before the finished work was eventually turned in.

"I'm fine. There's nothing else you can do, my apologies for bothering you. Excuse me" an embarrassed and hurt Joey said before she walked out of the office with tears in her eyes.

Susan had arrived at her aunt's house hours ago, and by nightfall, she had settled herself and her twin kids in. The ever so dynamic and level-headed kids were her miracle, and her only hope in life. They kept her going. The thought that she was going to abort them initially almost always haunted her because currently, she was grateful that the doctor had been such an angel and prevented her from making such a mistake.

"Michael" Susan called on her precious son, kissing his forehead and also his sister's while she gave the instruction for them to be obedient. Judy was already fast asleep, her little self was spent from the not so hectic but distant journey they had just embarked on to the United States.

"Take care of Judy" Susan continued. "Don't be a menace please, listen to your grand aunt Mabel, just take it easy, and I'll be right back. Mom has got a few things to take care of out there, okay?" she explained, gently ruffling her son's hair in her usual fond manner.

"Take care of yourself out there as well mom, call me if there's anything I can help you out with" Michael said.

"Okay big man' Susan replied, making her and her aunt, Mabel, laugh.

"Come back home as soon as you get your things out, okay?" her aunt Mabel said in a worried tone.

"I will" Susan replied, took a deep breath and left the house.

Mabel, Susan's mother's sister, was worried that her niece would start a fight when she got to her dad's house to pick up her mother's remaining clothes that were there, but Susan had gone through a lot on her own to know better. She didn't breed any plans in her mind to be any trouble whatsoever, she had become laid back, and really didn't care about her former step-family. She was ready and on her way without a care in the world for anything but her mother's items.

"What's going on?" she asked herself when she got close to her former house. There was a small crowd outside the house, well a medium crowd, more like a queue and what not, with reporters and passers-by and just people that cut short their journey to wherever they were headed to, with their attention now focused on the palazzo that was Susan's former place of abode.
