Chapter 5 Secrets
Avery's POV
I stood by the door, waiting for it to be opened. My chest hurt. I had so many questions I needed to ask. I had my eyes fixed on the floor, counting the second as they passed by.
My head shot up as soon as the door was opened. Mr. Arthur stood in front of me with a confused look on his face.
"I need to talk to you" I said bluntly. I can't guess what my face said but it probably wasn't welcoming.
Mr. Arthur remained calm however. He walked back inside and I followed.
We sat on the couch in the sitting room.
"I talked to my mom..." I started talked, heading straight to the point while noticing his change of expression "And she told me everything... I have a few questions for you... And some things you should know"
"I know what you want to ask... Why did I hand over my rights to George... Are you and Dylan siblings... Why is Dylan older than you... Does he know about this" he listed my questions like he read my mind.
I nodded. Excited to get my answers.
"I handed over my rights cause it was the least I could do... No life is worth a price... Your mother was meant to be my mate but we didn't happen so no, Dylan is not your brother... Dylan is older than you cause before I found my mate... I had already...mated with someone..."
He trailed "I was drunk... I wasn't in control... I married her though"
Now I wasn't looking at him. My eyes were fixed on the floor, trying to process and store everything he just said. I chewed my inner gum, tapping my feet against the floor to calm myself down with my hand crossed over my chest.
"Yes... Dylan knows" that's the answer that cracked me
Involuntarily, a frown made it's way to my face, I tilted my head to the side with my eyes still fixed on the floor. "He knew" I said it out loud to hear myself.
I gulped finding this fact hardest to ignore.
HE DIDN'T TELL MEEEE! SINCE WHEN DID WE START KEEPING SECRETS?
"Mr. Arthur... You're not the cause of George's wife's death" I said, putting the fact that Dylan kept this from me at the back of my mind
"I clawed her"
"Yes you did and she fell sick... But George killed her so he'd get your place as Alpha" I watched Mr. Arthur.
He had the same expression. He didn't even look excited. His reaction disappointed me... It pissed me.
My lips twitched with annoyance when he didn't say anything. "You know?!" I couldn't control my tone
"There's no proof" he sighed
"My mom saw everything"
"How did you even talk to her?" he rose an eyebrow
"A dream" I shrugged
"If she knew everything... Why didn't she tell me?" he frowned
"She wanted to but George knew she knew so he paid my dad to kill her... And he did"
Now I noticed the change in his expression. It started with him turning red and then there came the low growl and finally, blood shot eyes.
Some odd satisfaction laced my chest like seeing him pissed was what I wanted
It sounds bad but it's not. I'm glad he still cares. For a moment, I thought he'd accepted everything the way it was.
"Avery, can we talk later. I'll be back... I need to go for a run. You should go to your room" he said, standing and stretching a bit. "You shouldn't think too much okay?" He said, heading out
"Okay" I said following him to the door "Please stay away my dad to avoid killing him" I pleaded
He glanced at me then nodded after. I watched him leave.
I sighed, closing my eyes and taking in a deep breath "Is this real?" I asked myself, running my fingers through my hair. I needed to calm down... I needed a bath. I had blood all over me it felt disgusting.
After a few second of standing by the door to gather myself, I finally head for the guest room. My room actually. Mr. Arthur even had my name designed on the door.
Incase I ever wanna move in
I opened the closet in search of what to wear after my bath. As expected, the closet was filled with Dylan's shirts, shirts and his hoodies.
"Compared to other clothes, my shirt looks better on you"
I held back a smile remembering what he said
I randomly grabbed one of his shirt and threw on the bed
I've not forgotten he kept a secret from me though
Dylan's POV
I woke up when my nose caught it's favorite scent
"She's here " My wolf wagged it's tail
He likes her too
I tried getting up but couldn't... My body was sour from last night's exercise. I rolled on my bed, facing the ceiling. "Just her scent makes me loose my senses" I frowned "Such a simp" I scolded myself
"We should've been healed by now"
I frowned at my wolf
"Whoops"
I felt impatient, groaning at everything as seconds went by while I remained in the bed waiting to heal.
After some minutes, I got impatient then forced myself to get up, shifting as soon as I got to the ground. I stretched a bit
I heal faster in wolf form.
Once I fully healed I shifted back, had my bath, wore my sweat pants then ran downstairs.
"She came so early today" I said out loud, rushing down the stairs heading for the living room. I was surprised to see she wasn't there but I was sure she was in this house because of her scent. So I decided to follow it and wallah! She's in her room.
I attempted barging but unfortunately, she had the door locked so I had to knock.
"Coming!" I couldn't help but smile at the sound of her voice. I missed her and we weren't even apart for too long.
First thing I'm hearing this morning.
She opened the door
First face I'm seeing this morning too.
I opened my mouth to say something but before words were out, the door was slammed, leaving me dumbfounded on the spot.
I stood for a few seconds, trying to understand what just happened but I got no clue so I opened the door slowly, preparing to ask her.
I stepped in when the door was fully opened, sighting Avery on her bed, using her phone with an expressionless face. It somehow managed to scare me.
"Did I do something wrong?" I asked, slowly walking towards her.
"I thought we were best friends." she said, bringing her gaze up to meet mine.
"We are" I said, stopping in front of her, the way she said what she did bothered me. I felt nervous for some reason.
"I thought we promised never to hide anything from each other."
"We did" I squatted so I could see her face properly. "What's wrong?" I was clueless. I really didn't want her mad at me.
"Did you keep that promise?" She asked maintaining eye contact with me. I could tell she was biting her inner gum. Seems like that's a new habit of hers.
"Where's this question coming from?" I rose my eye brow, trying to sound as calm as possible so she wouldn't be triggered. Apart from the secret with my dad, she knows everything. There's no way she found out about it so where's the question coming from? Did she hear a rumor or something?
"You didn't." she said bitterly, twitching her lips like she was trying to hold back some words she had installed for me.
I remained quiet, wanting her to explain what she meant. I had a feeling she was trying out reverse psychology on me
"You knew who I was... You knew who you are... But. You. Didn't. Tell. Me" she whispered
How did she find out?
"So what else are you hiding from me?" She asked, leaning in to me, trying to pick out a lie through my eyes
"Nothing" I said, eyes stuck on her. I had my heart racing. Yup, she was mad. Exactly what I wanted to avoid.
She was disappointed and I couldn't blame her. "Nothing else. I swear" I promised
"Dylan..." She trailed "Why didn't you tell me?" she asked calmly.
"I was... Told not to" I lied
"You never obey anyone... You just didn't want to... You don't trust me do you?" She asked putting on a fake smile... From how shaky her eyes were, I could tell they struggled to keep looking into mine.
"I trust you Avery." I held her hand.
"Then why didn't you tell me?" She asked
"I was scared... I guess" I shrugged "I didn't know how you would've reacted if you found out my dad killed someone... I didn't know how you would've reacted if I told you I was meant to be Alpha... I thought you'd... Start respecting and shit like that" I sighed
"I'll never respect you, idiot" she giggled a bit but I could tell she was still pained
I frowned, looking away. "I just wanted to protect you. Knowing all that would-"
"Dylan." She shut me up
"Hmm?"
"You don't ever have to worry about loosing me." she said, stretching out her pinkie. "We made a pact to always stand beside each other when we were kids remember" she said with a warm smile at the end up it "I don't think I can ever leave you... I don't care if you're an Alpha or an Omega. I wouldn't even care if you were human Dylan... You're my best friend"
I felt relieved knowing she was not mad anymore "You mean everything to me Avery" I sighed, grabbing her in mine lightly
"You are everything to me Dylan" she grinned a bit
"I can't believe she you say she's just a friend" my wolf mumbled
"I don't say that... She does"
We remained in the same position, starring at each other for minutes
I got different ideas but ignored all... Except one
She looked away but I could stare at her forever
"So no more secrets?" She asked
"There's one more" I tightened my grip on her hand
"Which is?" She frowned
"I love you, Avery"
