THE OPPORTUNITY

Troubled Sam said, "Sis! I have to pay my hostel fees. Everyone else in my group has already paid, except for me. How long will you keep paying my fees, sis?"

Amelia, who was just 22 years old, had taken care of their household and Sam's education since she was 16, when their mother left them.

Sam was only 10 years old when their mother left, and now he was 14. Amelia was only 18 years old when their mother abandoned them. Amelia reassured her brother, saying, "Don't worry. I'll transfer your fees in a day or two. Just focus on your studies."

Amelia had spoken these words, but she couldn't figure out how she would manage it. She didn't have a job, and there were no upcoming interviews lined up yet. As Amelia entered her house, she kept receiving phone calls from her best friend, Lucy.

For the time being, Amelia ignored Lucy's call. After coming home, she went straight to take a bath, hoping it would alleviate some of her fatigue. However, there was a knock on her door.

When Amelia opened the door, Lucy stood there with an angry expression, gazing at her. "You ignored my call. Is it a new thing that you'll start ignoring me?" Lucy pushed her way inside.

Worry was evident on Amelia's face. She said, becoming upset, "Lucy, there's nothing like that. I was preoccupied, that's why I didn't answer your call."

Amelia's words were visible on her face as well. Lucy went ahead and hugged her, saying, "You know... I don't like seeing you like this. By the way, I have some good news for you."

Amelia muttered, "Can't anyone let me sleep? Now tell me what the good news is."

Lucy went straight to the sofa and said to Amelia, "If you could, you wouldn't have let me in."

Annoyed, Amelia said, "Lucy, just tell me what's the matter. It's been a long time since I heard something good."

Lucy didn't bother Amelia further and began sharing the news, "You know my aunt, right? Her sister-in-law informed her that her boss is looking for a nanny for his baby girl. It's a good job, indeed."

Amelia frowned and said, "So I went from graduating in science to becoming a nanny?"

To this, Lucy replied, "Friend, sometimes we have to do certain things out of necessity. Once you hear the salary, you'll forget about your science background."

Amelia frowned and said, "How much is it? Maybe a maximum of $20,000 or $25,000."

Lucy widened her eyes and said, "Friend! It's $300,000 in total."

Hearing this, Amelia exclaimed, "Really? Are you kidding?"

Lucy quickly responded, "No, friend! It's a monthly salary. What could be better than this for taking care of a baby girl?"

Amelia was surprised to hear that.

Lucy said to Amelia, "If you want, I can talk to my aunt about it. If she recommends you, it will be easier to get the job."

Amelia recalled the day when she got a job through a recommendation. She refused and said, "No, Lucy! I don't want a job through recommendations. Just tell me the timing and address of the interview. I'll go and face it on my own."

When Amelia said this to Lucy, Lucy responded with a bit of anger, "You and your ideologies, Not many people think that way these days."

Amelia gave a slight smile and said, "Lucy, don't lecture me now. You know how I am. Do one thing, wait for me in the balcony. I'll come right now after making hot coffee for both of us." Saying this, Amelia entered the room. She took a shower and prepared coffee for both of them. Sitting in the balcony, they started conversing while enjoying their coffee.

Meanwhile, Ethan had returned home with Charlotte. He asked Mrs. Thompson to put her to sleep and went to his own room. Ethan brought food for Charlotte from outside, then took a shower and changed into his nightwear before lying down on his bed.

Even before falling asleep, his thoughts were solely focused on Charlotte. He had an interview scheduled for the next day at 11 a.m. Ethan's regular routine involved waking up early in the morning and spending an hour at the gym before enjoying some time in his garden, reading the newspaper. Ethan had a great fondness for greenery.

Following his usual morning routine, Ethan finished his work and went to Charlotte's room. On the other hand, Amelia, eager not to be late for her interview, quickly got ready and left the house.
