Chapter 7
MALORY P.O.V
“And right” I said drawing a line to right in my cellphone. I was currently with Cortez, in his car going to my college. I don’t know the mode of his car, but I knew it was a Pagani, thanks to their beautiful logo. It was extremely comfortable and I loved the car already. “So is there any turning after this?” I asked him.
“One more” he said and I nodded.
I was noting down the landmarks in my cell phone because I am going on my two-wheeler from tomorrow onwards. Looking outside the window, I wrote down a restaurant’s name in my cell phone for remembrance. I am a little weak in geography. Okay, very weak in geography.
“Where do you work?” I curiously asked Cortez.
“It’s far from here”
“And you work the whole day?”
“No. I work only when I want” he said evenly.
“That‘s so cool” I said with a grin but quickly looked away when Cortez turned his head to face me.
“Take left near the bank” he said to me while I drew a line to left and wrote in my cellphone. “Another ten minutes and you will be in your college” Cortez said and I looked at the time. I would be forty five minutes early and very few come that early.
“Stop! Stop! Stop!” I told Cortez before he could enter the gates of my college. He stopped and turned to look at me with a frown. “Outsiders vehicles aren’t allowed inside the campus. He does not allow them” I said scowling at the rude security guard who didn’t allow dada’s car to come inside last time during College Day.
“I… I’ll go from here” I said searching for my lanyard in the bag.
“What time does your class end?” Cortez asked me while I was wearing my lanyard.
“Four fifteen”
“I’ll pick you up at four fifteen” he said and I smiled.
“Bye” I said and got out of the car when he didn’t reply. When I was about to enter the campus, I stopped and turned to look at Cortez. Warmth filled me as I saw him still inside his car. With his hands he motioned for me to go in. I waved at him and with a huge grin on my face, entered the campus.
Classes were mundane and like usual I only spoke with my professor’s and few girls who sit near me. I am the only wolf who is studying in this university filled with humans and so it is difficult for me to be friends with humans, plus the whole social awkwardness thing. During lunch, I ate in a nearby fast-food restaurant and called mama who was crying in the phone. After that I had another class of forensic medicine where we were thought about skeletal bone examination.
As soon as the bell rang, I walked out of the class room towards the parking lot. I was half-way there when I realized that I had come with Cortez today. Shaking my head regretfully, I slowly made my way towards the entrance. I doubt Cortez to be here even though he said he would be here at four-fifteen. Pinching my lips together, I held the handle of my shoulder bag in a tight grip.
“Really? Where?” I heard a girl asking her friend from behind me.
“She said he is near the entrance and that we would be crazy to miss having a glimpse of that irresistible man” her friend replied giggling.
“Any idea who is he?” the same girl asked.
“Don’t know, but she said he looks rich” the friend answered and both girls giggled walking past me. I lowered my head as a small smile formed on my face when I heard them talking. I used to be the same along with Little Bear and Tina; we used to go to a restaurant, look around for handsome guys and make our own assumptions about them. However now, after finding Cortez, I don’t think I will be able to tell any guy to be better looking than him. He is sinfully attractive and he is mine. Every time I think about Cortez, my wolf gets excited and it makes me feel all giddy.
Shaking my head, I looked up and gasped when I saw that the entrance was blocked by girls. Wonder what’s going on there? Street play? Whatever it was, it was blocking the entrance and I wondered where he was?
Huffing, I marched towards the entrance however couldn’t push and go ahead because most of them were taller and if I use my werewolf strength than they will be pushed against a tree opposite to the street. Trying not to give up, I asked a girl to excuse me and blinked when I got a glare in return. How mean! I just asked her to make way for me to pass.
Muttering an apology, I turned and tried to go through another way. That is when the wind brought me Cortez’s scent and I froze. Cortez was here. I immediately opened my mind link and decided to tell him where I am.
“Malory” Cortez called even before I could. I turned with wide eyes as I realized that the voice was from behind me and not through the link. Cortez was here and he had somehow managed to push away those girls because they had spread apart and had made way for him. How mean! They couldn’t do it for me.
But he was here and he was in time which made me happy. He must have come from his work, judging by the way he was wearing formals which I have to say, totally suited him.
“Uh… Hi” I said uncertainly. Without uttering any word, he caught my wrist in his large hands and began dragging me towards the Pagani. As soon as I was inside, he closed the door and walked towards the driver’s side. My eyes that were glued at Cortez until now, widened in surprise when I saw few girls staring at me with their mouth dropped open.
Realization dawned on me when I saw the way some were still ogling at Cortez. My wolf wanted to rip all their heads which startled me. When did she get this violent? Gritting my teeth, I took a deep breath to calm myself. I am so not the jealous type.
Having so many eyes on me was unsettling and so I quickly looked at Cortez once he was in the driver’s seat. Inhaling his scent calmed me instantly and I kept my shoulder bag on my lap. I could still feel many eyes on me but I ignored them as Cortez-who looked annoyed-started driving.
My heart was thudding heavily against my chest which is nothing new because it happens whenever Cortez is around me but, right now it was because of the anger radiating from Cortez. He was furious, for what, I didn’t know.
He was driving above the speed limit and already broke two signals but no cops caught him yet and I wonder why? I, myself, was a rash driver but I never drive like this.
Like the coward that I was, instead of questioning him I kept my mouth shut and used to close my eyes whenever I felt he would hit somewhere. Cortez wasn’t slowing down even after that and so I decided to tell him.
“Slow down” I mumbled in a barely audible voice without looking at him. I was sure he didn’t hear me because there wasn’t any change in the speed. Turning to look at him, I frowned when I saw that his eyes were dark as night.
Ooh!
I didn’t know what to do. Talking to him was useless and so I slowly raised my hand and touched his arm. Tingles spread everywhere in my body and I was about to pull my hand back when Cortez turned to look at me. “Slo-Slow down, please” I said and dropped my hand.
Cortez took a deep breath and then decreased the speed. It wasn’t very slow but I could manage this speed. “What happened?” I asked him in a slowly.
“Nothing” he said and I scowled.
“It’s obviously not ‘nothing’ if it’s bothering you” I said using air quotes on nothing. When Cortez turned to look at me with a shocked expression in his face, I gulped.
“It’s related to work”
“Oh! Can I give a solution for that?” I asked with a smile.
“For what?”
“The anger” I said tensely, afraid that he might get more angry.
“Go on”
“Dada used to run, Twins used to fight, Little Bear used to dance, Zach used to- oh nothing”
“What?” Cortez asked with a frown.
“Nothing” I repeated and lowered my head to hide my blushed cheeks. Zach had told me that getting laid used to help him. I think it was just an excuse he was using because he was- no is a major player.
“What about you?” he asked me after some time.
“Me? I don’t get angry”
“You are lying” he said and I frowned. I do get angry but never like ‘losing control to your wolf’.
“Please don’t tell mama about this” I told him and he cocked an eyebrow. “She will make me apologize the next time I meet this person and I really, really don’t want to do that”
Cortez nodded and then I proceeded to tell him, “Uh… There was this girl in my high school, her name was Lily, and she was a typical five-letter-word. She had a crush or so in Cole-” Cortez growled as he heard Cole’s name. “-and he wouldn’t pay any attention to her. Lily didn’t like mine and Cole’s friendship, so she spread a very bad rumor about me. I cried the whole day as I came to know about that rumor and then Little Bear came to my home to boost up my self-confidence, she always does that, and suggested me to get back at that mean five-letter-word. So the next day I started taking revenge on Lily.
