Chapter 1 continuation
Thinking about the rogues, reminded me of the rogue that I had helped that day. I didn’t go to meet him after leaving the hospital that day. As a person, I did my duty and helped him but I didn’t want any more connection with a rogue other than that. He is a rogue and he can be dangerous. However, Doctor Gill had told me that the rogue wasn’t in his room the next morning. My guess is he left the hospital after he was completely healed.
I hope to never cross paths with that rogue again.
“Sad” Cole said and my grin widened. “Can you give me phone numbers of some of your hot girl friends? You know my weakness right?” he asked me and I rolled my eyes. Here we go again.
“I can give you sheriff’s number” I answered.
“That’s too hot” Cole said pinching his lips together.
“You’re such a three-letter-word” I told him.
“That I am” he said proudly.
“It wasn’t a compliment” I snapped while Cole shrugged.
We continued talking until Cole asked me to go on a date with him. “You’ve got to be kidding me” I growled.
“One date” he said with a wide grin.
“Take some other girl” I said and walked away.
“Tomorrow at seven thirty?”
“No”
“Cool, I’ll pick you up” he said.
I was about to say no again and then decided this was Cole, he never takes no. So, I decided to say yes and then stand him up. Hey, I am not being rude, this is Cole and I doubt he would even remember tomorrow he has to take someone on a date. “Cool” I said and smiled. “Your friend has arrived. I’ll see you tomorrow” I said and walked away before he could stop me. I could hear him following me and asking me to wait.
To avoid him, I rushed into a grocery store and stayed hidden behind dry fruits isle. After taking another bite of my chocolate, I slowly came out of the shop and spotted Cole, who was looking for me standing near the escalator. I groaned, I needed to escape from this floor and I had only ten minutes left before the dance would start. I had to go to ground floor soon but since Cole and his friend were near the elevator, I decided to go through the stairs.
When I was looking through my shoulders to make sure that Cole wasn’t following me, I felt something strange. It was my wolf actually who felt it. She sat up straight, perking her ears. Frowning, I wondered why she was behaving that way.
She is actually a very calm animal and is always quiet inside me. There is no wild, animalistic side to my wolf. My behavior in my wolf form is the same way I behave in human form. I never ever lost control to my wolf even once. Sel (Little bear) had told me it happens to her and even my dada said it had happened to him once, but I am always in sync with my wolf. So, this strange behavior took me by surprise.
Not letting anything bother me, I walked closer to the stairs and that is when a wonderful scent hit me. My wolf started jumping with joy inside me. It was like she found her heaven or something. Surely, the scent was good, because it was all woody and powerful but I didn’t get why my wolf would be happy to inhale that scent.
I saw the stairs and rushed towards it. When I stood in the top of the stairs, I peeked once again and sighed when I saw Cole wasn’t following me but frowned after I realized that my wolf was acting crazy, jumping, and wriggling her tail. She was behaving the same way Mumbles does, when my dada feeds him bones.
The scent was still there and it was stronger than ever, but I didn’t get why my wolf was all excited about it. Turning to my side, I looked around the floor wanting to find the source of the scent, however came up with nothing. There were lots of humans and few wolves from my pack but nothing new.
It was then, I felt someone’s gaze on me. Someone was watching me, standing in those stairs. Gulping, I slowly turned to face the person who was watching me.
I couldn’t breathe ―I forgot how to breathe after I saw him. He was standing at the bottom of the stairs and staring at me, the same way I was staring at him. He was suavely handsome with his dark blonde hair, blue-green eyes, firm jaw and straight nose. His lithe and muscled body radiated a leashed power.
My wolf howled in joy while I was held captive by this man’s blue-green eyes, which were turning darker each passing moment.
My wolf wanted me to jump at him right then and there and that is when I understood why she was this happy. This man, who had me in short of breath and a dry throat, was my mate. This lethally attractive man, whose scent exuded supremacy, was my mate. He was a wolf and judging by his stance, I knew he was a powerful one too.
My cheeks flushed as the realization hit me. I couldn’t look away from him, no matter how many times I tried to. All I could do was blink and swallow repeatedly. Mate, my wolf barked happily and I sighed.
Holding my purple skirt, in a tight fist, I slowly lowered my head and gazed at my feet. I hoped I looked presentable because they always say first impression is the best impression. I sighed when I realized, I was neatly dressed in a purple skirt and white blouse. My dark curls were neatly brushed and I did look decent.
But what bothered me was that, I was trying to impress a total stranger even though he was my mate. I didn’t know anything about this man, yet I wanted him to like me. The thought of him hating me wasn’t appreciated by my wolf, who desperately wanted me to close the distance between us.
I didn’t know who he was, which pack he belongs, how old is he, what work he does, nothing… but I was eager to know all about him. Be the first one to approach, to start a conversation, my dada had said after I told him I get nervous with strangers. He was a stranger but I was enthusiastic to get to know more about him and so I took a step forward.
In the trance that he was holding me, I seemed to forget that I was standing at the top of the stairs and not in some leveled area, which is why whatever happened next- happened.
I had just taken a step forward and when I couldn’t find a leveled ground, I unwarily set foot on the edge of the top stair that had me slipping and tumbling step after step, with my bum hitting the edges of each stairs, until I came to a stop, at the bottom of the stairs near my mate’s foot.
I had screamed all the way, while I used those stairs as sliding board. I couldn’t believe I fell from the stairs.
In the end, my dark hair fell around my sides covering my face, my knees were against my chest and my hands were at my sides, while I was panting repeatedly in shock as to what just happened.
My bum was aching and it was the first time I realized I had bones in my bum too. I couldn’t believe that I just glided down around ten to twelve stairs, on my bum rather than using my god gifted two legs, in front of my mate.
I didn’t even dare look up, to see my mate’s reaction at the embarrassing situation. But I knew I had to. Gulping once, I looked up at him, my sky blue eyes filled with sympathy for me, at such an humiliating situation.
My mate’s lips were parted slightly. He too looked in shock considering the way his eyes were wide. He might be trying to process the fact that I did fell down from those stairs, on my bum.
Seeing his shocked reaction, my bottom lip trembled and I immediately lowered my head. I rolled my bottom lip and chewed on it. I felt so stupid. I didn’t feel this stupid even when I kicked Stella’s fifth hand car. I was grateful for one thing though and that was no one else, other than me and my mate was witness to what happened. People rarely use stairs when there are escalators.
Suddenly, two strong hands held my upper arm. I inhaled sharply when I felt his hands on my skin. The way tingles spread around my body from just that one touch told me, it was my mate. My wolf purred and I shivered with pleasure.
I didn’t look up at him, when he helped me stand up. I didn’t look at him even when he loosened his hold on my arms, or gently traced his long, lean fingers all over my arms before dropping it to his sides. Instead, I stared at his white shirt, black jacket, dark jeans and black combat boots.
He was tall, really tall maybe six feet plus just like Zach, Twins and Alpha Duncan are. I had to crane my neck up and he had to lower his head, when we wanted to look at each other. My cheeks flushed and I held my skirt in a tight grip. Standing this close to him made me aware of the steel muscled body hidden behind his clothes. My wolf was in a daze and I closed my eyes to keep her lustful thoughts away.
