Part two- Chapter 5
“Inhale when I inhale. Exhale when I exhale. Breathe with me,for two beating hearts breathing one breath together become one.”
― Christina Westover, Poisoning Sylvie
DUNCAN P.O.V
After bidding goodbye to Granel and Raven, I was chaperoned towards the apartment building. The name of the building was Hampton’s Prominence that had A, B and C wing. My apartment was in the C wing. Granel had given me the keys to an apartment in the 23rd floor of the building and few members of my pack were also in the same floor as me.
Once I got into the apartment, I did a thorough checking of the whole apartment and I must admit the whole thing was upto my standard of liking.
It was a classic monochrome theme with white as a dominate shade on the flooring, the walls and the furniture. The black was used only as a highlight, on a few couches, pillows, lamps, vases, portrait frames, and mattresses.
I totally liked it.
After taking a shower, I headed towards my room and unpacked my bags. Minutes later, I opened my laptop and began working with it.
It was somewhere around two in the morning when i closed my laptop and went to bed.
The next morning, after dressing up in a jeans and a blue and white Chex shirt, I and Vernon headed towards the cafeteria.
A waitress in the cafeteria came and took our orders.
“Did you do the work?” I asked him. I had asked him to find information about the rogues.
“Yes Alpha” he replied. “I and Lucas went into the town yesterday. Much have changed there since we have last been there.” he told me. “I have found out that there are five to six places where rogues come”
“And?” I pressed.
“The places are crowded and filled with human population, especially youths. Hence no one in the Supreme Pack can do anything about it. They haven’t done anything bad, but here and there, there are some cases of molesting girls, harassing and creating minor ruckus. However nothing that couldn’t be dealt with. They come there to have fun like many others” he added.
“What are the places?” I asked him.
“Few pubs, nightclubs, cafeterias, bowling centers, malls etc. Most of these are owned by humans and so it cannot be questioned by Alpha Granel.”
“And let me guess the rogues will be there during weekends when it is crowded?” I asked him and he nodded sadly. I growled loudly that got other people’s attention.
“Sir, do you need anything?” the waitress asked me.
“Just the bill” I said and didn’t miss the look of disappointment in her face when neither Vernon nor I paid any consideration to the assets she was purposefully flaunting for us.
“Where did this assault happen?” I asked him curiously.
“Pubs and nightclubs where there are lots of hot girls” Vernon said excitedly and I cocked an eyebrow. “Sorry. I meant where there are lots of attractive… I meant Girls” he said swallowing loudly. In short a place, where these rogues had high chances of getting laid.
“Find us a way so that we can get in there this weekend. Talk to the owner, throw some money into his account if he asks for it” I told him.
“I will” he agreed and I nodded. Just like me, Vernon was new to his position as Third-in-command. He had cleared his high school last year and was immediately burdened by the title. I chose him as my third-in-command because he was not only one of the strongest fighters in the pack, but a guy who had good decision making ability. His father who was my dad’s third-in-command had died when Vernon was four. I admired the fact that he was living up to all my expectations without failure.
“Talk to Fox and tell him to pick guys with him who will monitor the CCTV cameras” I added and stopped talking when the waitress made her way towards us and kept the bill book in the table.
When I opened the book, I found her name and phone number written in the tissue paper. Seriously, how desperate can she get? I would have definitely considered her offer in other case but right now, I wanted to have a talk with Granel about the rogues.
Rolling my eyes, I kept some money and closed the bill book.
I then went to the company where my dad had given me the work. The company was owned by a human named Tim Winthrop. My dad and he were partners in an upcoming project and I was assigned to look after the work on behalf of my father.
It was around five in the afternoon when I completed the day’s work and left the company. I straightaway drove towards Granel’s house.
I parked my car in the driveway and removed my seat belt when suddenly my wolf started pacing inside me. Gripping the steering wheel tight, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. The moment I inhaled a delightful scent hit me that had my wolf go insane. He was jumping and was repeatedly pleading to be let out.
Shaking my head, i decided that I needed to take a run or maybe even hunt. I was about to turn back when I heard Granel coming out. “Duncan, what are you doing here?” he asked me surprised.
“I needed to ask you something” I said and got out of the car and that is when I noticed a BMW parked just behind me. I looked at the driver a guy around my age, probably a year or two younger even, who was staring at me. He honked once and motioned with his hands for me to park ahead. I growled aggressively at him but later noticed that he didn’t have much place to park his car and so I got inside the car and drove a little ahead, giving him enough place to park his car.
When I got out of the car, the driver of the BMW was already making his way inside. He spoke something with Granel and went inside. The brown hair dude seemed to own the place.
I couldn’t much focus on the guy because my wolf was still unsettled.
“Who is that guy?” I asked Granel furrowing my brows.
“Tyson Grier” Granel told me.
“What is he doing here?” I asked him.
“He came to pick up Sel” Granel replied.
“I don’t like him” I said with a scowl and Granel chuckled.
“You don’t even know him” he complained.
“Thank Heavens” I said sarcastically and held my hands in a tight fist and gritted my teeth to stop my wolf.
“Everything Okay?” Granel asked me.
“Yeah” I said hoarsely growling.
“You don’t look so” Granel said cautiously.
My wolf was being an ass and I didn’t want that to come in my way now. “I need to tell you something” I told him.
“Go ahead”
“I have heard that rogues come and party in a night club in the town” I told him. “So, that will be a good time for you to catch them” I suggested.
Granel who had his arms crossed across his chest, closed his eyes and growled ferociously.
Just then Raven and Tyson came outside. Raven immediately rushed to Granel’s side and he pulled her towards him. I looked away and gave them some time, “Everything okay?” I heard her asking.
My gaze fell on Tyson who was standing there and avoiding looking at Granel and Raven. Tyson was a well-built and somewhat good looking guy with dark brown hair and blue eyes. His straight posture and aggressive expression were a dead giveaway about the Alpha blood in him. My eyes met his and he growled lowly at me. I didn’t understand what the fellow’s problem was so I growled back.
I was an Alpha too and so his conduct didn’t affect me. He didn’t growl again but just turned and stormed inside. My wolf was still acting crazy and I knew I needed to have a run because I didn’t have one since I came to know about my dad’s demise.
“Uh… Duncan?” Raven called me and I turned to look at her.
“How about you guys go and talk inside your office?” She asked and I nodded.
I followed Granel to his office and once in office, my wolf calmed down to a certain degree. He still wasn’t completely settled because the scent was close by.
“I know about it” Granel said and I looked at him in bewilderment. “I know about the rogues” he told me. I then realized he was talking about the rogues and not about the smell that had my wolf wild.
“You do? Then why aren’t you reacting to it?” I asked him.
“Lots of reasons. One- my mother, two- club is owned by humans and that means we have to follow their rules and three- crowded by humans. You can’t just kidnap some rogue from there” he said through gritted teeth.
“Hmm, all the reasons make sense” I told him.
“I avoid going that area because every time it makes me want to shift badly” he snarled. “My land and those mutts swaying over it, infuriates me to no end.”
“Talk to aunt Isa about it. I am sure she will understand” I proposed.
“You think I haven’t tried?” he asked me growling. “Every time I tell that woman to drop her compassion towards the rogues but that stubborn head doesn’t listen to me” he spat.
“Do you want me to talk to her?” I asked him.
He looked at me and sighed. “You can try” he said.
“I will” I told him smiling.
“Thanks” he replied.
