Chapter 2

“Are you okay?” I heard him asking me, his breath fanning my ears. His deep, manly voice showed how powerful and dominant he really was. He was not just a strong wolf but a wolf with a title nothing less than an Alpha for sure. My wolf yipped in joy at realizing the power my mate had.

Nevertheless I didn’t know which pack he belonged to? If I knew his name then maybe I can ask dada and he migh-

“Are you okay?” I heard him asking again and this time, I looked up to meet his gaze. He was looking at me with a questioning expression and so I nodded. My wolf wanted me to close even the tiny amount of space we had between us.

“I… am, but my bum hurts” I said and my eyes widened after I grasped what I said. I clamped my mouth shut, with both my hands and took a step back from him. Dark colors rose on my cheeks.

How much more could I make a fool of myself in front of him? I had to go away before I would do something stupid.

MALORY P.O.V

I was walking in the woods looking for Mumbles. I don’t know where he ran away. I had let him go so that he could pee but he was nowhere to find even after twenty minutes. The sky had turned a shade of purple and orange. The sun was yet to set but the stars were already making appearances in the evening sky.

“Mumbles?” I called him. “Where are you boy?” I asked in worry. Where could he go?

I ran further into the woods and came to a speedy halt when I saw Mumbles running towards me, fear clearly evident in his golden eyes. “Mumbles? What’s wrong boy?” I asked kneeling on the ground and patting his head.

Mumbles turned to look in the direction where he came from. I followed his gaze and found no one standing there. “Anybody there?” I asked looking in between the trees but no one was there.

I looked around but there was no one and so I looked down at Mumbles, with my hands on my hips. “There’s no one there” I told him with a frown. “Come on, let’s go home.”

I had only taken two steps when I heard sounds of leaves rustling from behind. Stopping dead in my tracks, I turned to look what had caused that rustle. I gulped when I saw three huge men stepping out from behind the trees. All three were wolves and all three were scary to look.

I took a step back while Mumbles hid behind me.

They all stopped in their tracks and stared at me with a smirk in their face. My heartbeat increased rapidly and I felt a terrible pain in my stomach. Goosebumps arrived all over my body from fear.

Another guy stepped out from the tree that Mumbles was staring at earlier. He was wearing a dark grey hoodie that had covered almost all of his face, except his lips and chin. Even though I couldn’t see him, I knew he could see me. He wasn’t tall like the other guys, wasn’t as muscular as the other guys. He looked like he was still in his teens but even then he looked scary.

Mumbles whined from behind me. My chest heaved up and down whenever I used to breathe while my heart started hammering in my chest.

“Kill her” the teenage guy said and then turned around. When he was out of sight, the three other wolves charged towards me.

I turned and began running to save my life, with Mumbles running beside me. I didn’t dare look back, afraid that the rogues might be just behind me.

I screamed in fear, when one of the rogues held my shoulders to stop me. I tried my best to run away but it was useless because the rogue was like a giant. He wrapped his hands around my waist and I screamed for my life. Mumbles was barking repeatedly and irritated by his bark, one rogue kicked him in the stomach which sent him flying in the air and landing on the ground in a thud.

“Mumbles” I yelled, afraid that these rogues might have killed my poor dog. The rogue who had his arms around my waist, dropped me down on the ground. They then stood around me with the same smirk. I looked at them, pleading them to leave me however it was of no use. Instead the three of them moved in a circle around me.

They all stopped and smirked. However two of those rogues took a step back from me while the other one had a very wide grin on his face. What was he going to do to me? My vision was getting blurrier has tears formed in my eyes. The rogue grinned, flaunting his yellow teeth. He then lowered himself to get closer to me.

“No” I yelled and fell on the floor in a thump. Mumbles, who was sleeping on the floor near my bed, got up all of a sudden and stared at me in confusion. I have the habit of falling from my bed whenever I am dreaming, but never ever I had such an awful nightmare. I sat next to the foot of the bed, holding my knees closer to my chest.

Mumbles walked towards me and sat beside me, with his soft black fur touching my skin.

It wasn’t until I felt tear drops on my knees that I realized, I was crying.

The door to my room opened and my parents rushed inside. “Lory” dada called switching on the room lights. His eyes widened when he saw tears in my tears.

“Oh baby! What happened to you?” mama asked rushing towards me and hugging me. I wrapped my arms around my mother’s waist and sobbed loudly. I’ve never had such a bad nightmare. The faces of those wolves and what they would have done to me kept going on and on in my head. My mama was whispering sweet things to me while dada was running his hands through my hair.

I have no idea how long we stayed like that but when I pulled away my heartbeat was back to normal and I had stopped crying. “Are you okay?” mama asked me and I realized she too had been crying. Her blue eyes were also filled with tears.

“I am fine” I replied while mama rubbed the tears from my cheeks. “It was a nightmare” I said lowering my head.

“About?” dada asked and I looked at him.

“Rogues” I said because I was cent percent sure that those wolves in my dreams were rogues. Dada furrowed his brows and I continued. “They attacked me and even Mumbles” I said nodding at my dog that was curved around dada’s leg.

“Oh baby! You know nothing like that is going to happen to you. We are not going to let anyone harm you” mama said and I nodded. “It was just a bad dream, forget about it okay?” she asked me and I nodded.

“Yes Lory. We are always with you and so is your pack. No one can harm you. We will not let anything happen and you, yourself are not going to let anything bad happen to you” Dada said and I nodded. “That’s my daughter” Dada said and rubbed his hands on my hair.

“Go to sleep. It was a bad dream and nothing else” mama said. “Do you want me to sleep here with you?” mama asked me and I shook my head. I got up and slept on the bed.

“I am fine. Sorry for disturbing you all” I told them and they shook their heads.

“There is nothing to be sorry for sweetie” mama said and kissed my forehead. “Good night” she said and went out of the room.

“Good night” Dada said and kissed my temple. He then kept a chair beside my bed, switched off the lights, however kept my room door open while going out.

I turned to my left and placing my hands below my head, I began thinking about my nightmare. Why did that pup want me dead? I didn’t even know who he was.

I then began thinking about the rogue I had saved that day, two weeks ago. This pup wasn’t that rogue. This one was different. While the rogue, who I helped, looked friendlier the boy in my nightmare looked lethal.

He terrified me.

I heard sounds of shuffling and realized that Mumbles, was the one making that noise. “Mumbles” I called and I felt him coming towards my bed. “Get on the bed” I said and immediately he jumped on the bed. I smiled when he snuggled closer to me.

Wrapping an arm around him, I kissed him in the head. Mumbles smelled good, but not as good as him.

Closing my eyes, I recalled the events that had happened earlier today in the mall. My lips curved to form a smile as I thought about his handsome face. Looks wise, he was everything a girl would want in her man but character wise- I don’t know.

And you didn’t even try to get to know, my wolf remarked disdainfully. I flinched at her remark because what she said was true. You became selfish and ran away like a coward. You had no right to keep me away from my mate.

I bit my bottom lip at her accusation. Whatever my wolf was thinking was completely true. I shouldn’t have ran away from him, instead should have tried to talk to him and accept whatever decision he had made.

I don’t know if I will ever see him again, my wolf whined and I held back a sob. I now realized my mistake. I really shouldn’t have run away from there like a coward. My wolf had been pretty upset about it and she was quiet ever since I returned home.

I didn’t want what happened to Tyson to happen to my mate. I had seen how sad he was after his mate had left him. It wasn’t her fault and it wasn’t his fault either. Pained slashed through me when I realized that my mate must have been feeling the same thing except in this case, I had intentionally left him and that too for a stupid reason.

It was a weak excuse.
