Part two- Chapter 12

“If a man is proud of you in

public,

he will always be proud of

you.”

― M.F. Moonzajer

DUNCAN P.O.V

I was actually confused. Did Tyson find his mate or not? If yes, where was she? Because the pained expression told me that they weren’t together. Is she dead?

Seline who was beside me turned to look at me with knitted brows. “What?” I asked her. “Did Tyson find his mate?” I asked her looking guilty and she nodded.

“Yes” she replied sighing. “She is a human”

“Where is she then?”

“I don’t know and neither does he. He met her a year ago in a diner. Since she was a human, he didn’t want to rush her into anything and so he took things slow. They went on one date and fixed a second one but when he went to pick her up the second time she wasn’t there. Her house was locked and her family had left town all of a sudden.” Seline said sadly.

“Did you meet her?”

“No. All I know is her name is Piper.” Seline said shaking her head. I really felt bad for bringing the topic of Tyson’s mate now. I can understand how he feels about it because when I saw Seline unconscious yesterday after being stabbed, it killed me. I couldn’t bear the thought of living away from her.

Just then there was a loud howl from the woods. “It’s him” Seline said looking at me. “Please go and apologize to him” she requested.

“Didn’t he try to find anything about her?” I asked her confused.

“He did. But it’s all vain. It’s like she has vanished from the surface of the earth. She was a student living with her father and brother. We all tried to find out about her but it was of no use. I suspect she had come to the pack for vacation and since she is human she was unaware of the bond” Sel said.

“Which Pack did he find her in?”

“My pack” she said. “Every holiday he goes there and waits for her. He has even brought the house she was in” Seline said and I really felt bad for the guy. It wasn’t his fault neither the girl’s fault. “We all avoid talking about the topic in front of him and as for him interrupting us, he is just being protective, a duty my dad assigned to him” she said smiling and I nodded.

There was another howl and I heard Darya calling Seline and me to come in for dinner. I stared at the woods for a few minutes “Don’t worry, he will be back” Sel said giving me a warm smile and tugged my arm.

“Where is Tyson?” Raven asked while serving dinner.

“He has gone for a run” Sel said. Raven frowned and sat beside Granel.

In my mind I was having a mini debate of whether or not telling Granel the truth about why I am actually here. It was obviously disturbing me pretty much, but I decided against telling the truth because now wasn’t the right time or place and everyone were here.

“Everything okay?” I heard Granel asking me and I nodded.

I was eating my salad when Granel got up all of a sudden. “Tyson is outside” he said and went to his room. He came out along with a pair of shorts and went out.

Minutes later, Tyson came in. His dark brown hair was a crumpled mess and he had grass and mud all over him.

“God, Tyson you look terrible, are you okay?” Raven asked him.

“I am fine” he muttered and went upstairs. During dinner, Cortez got a call and he soon left after answering the call.

Even after dinner Tyson didn’t come down and I knew it was my fault. I usually don’t apologize unless I feel guilty of what I did and right now, I did feel bad for bringing out Tyson’s mate’s topic and knew I owe him and apology.

“I will be right back” I told Seline and got up from my chair and went upstairs. I could smell him in one of the rooms. I knocked twice before entering.

“What are you doing here?” he hissed looking at me and I suppressed a growl. Not now Duncan, you came to say sorry not fight.

“Look Grier, I am sorry. I didn’t know about your mate and I’m sorry for bringing her up.” I said and turned around because I knew the guy wouldn’t reply. Holding the door handle, I decided to make clear one more thing with him. “Seline is my mate. I love and respect her. I will not force her to do anything she doesn’t want to” I added and opened the door.

Standing next to the door, with her hands behind her back and leaning against the wall was Seline. “Eavesdropping is a bad habit, I hope you know that” I told her, closing the door.

“I just came to see that you won’t try to kill each other again” she clarified while I rolled my eyes.

“I call it eavesdropping” I told her grinning while she stuck her tongue out. I cocked an eyebrow at her comeback.

The door to Tyson’s room opened and he stared at me and Sel, who was standing, facing me. “I will be watching you Rhoades. You will be pleading for mercy if you hurt my sister” he said and got inside the room.

I cocked and eyebrow and turned to look at Sel who grinned at me. “He is- your sentinel” I told her and her grin grew wider deepening the dimples.

“Let’s go” she said and tugged my arm.

It was a boring Monday morning, where I had to go to work with the ass, Tim Winthrop. I can’t tolerate the guy. I don’t know what was wrong with my dad when he agreed to the partnership with this loser. Death seems better than being in a room with Tim Winthrop. He is your typical old geezer. Around fifty years of age, old and burly, who likes to mentally torture all his employees. I swear, I have never seen him being satisfied with their work. I am one fucking step away from killing the guy. I couldn’t wait to get out of this shit hole. I had not sat in college hearing those lectures to bear all this.

Around four in the evening my cell phone started ringing and it was a call from Seline. “Hmm… what?” I asked her after I picked up the call.

“Hi… you still at work?” she asked me.

“Yeah”

“Oh”

“Why?”

“Uhm… nothing. Just called to check in” she said and cut the call. I frowned and stared at my cell phone.

Sighing, I called back and she picked it up after one ring. “Is everything okay?” I asked her.

“It is. But I am not getting why a six foot, dark haired and green eyes guy is following me” she said and I could literally see her scowling.

“I don’t know what you are talking about” I lied. I had informed Nick to maintain distance but that fool.

“Don’t lie to me Duncan” she warned. “I know he belongs to your pack and tell him to back off before I feed him to vultures” she said and cut the call.

I sighed because she was unnecessarily being tough. I decided to call Nick. “I said you to maintain a good distance from her” I said as soon as he picked up the call.

“I am, Alpha” he said. “I maintained a good distance”

“She has already seen you” I snapped. “Where are you now?” I asked him.

“Below Luna’s apartment” he said. “She just reached home”

“Okay then. I will be there soon” I told him and cut the call. Damn, the girl was smart.
