Chapter 2 continuation
The more I thought, the more it hurt and so I decided to stop thinking about the thought of never seeing my mate again. When I couldn’t get any sleep, I closed my eyes and thought about the moment I first met my mate. I smiled and with that thought, I don’t know when I fell asleep.
When I woke up the next morning, as usual I found my flip-flop missing. I sighed knowing it was Mumbles job. I don’t know what kind of weird love he has for my footwear. He doesn’t tear it apart, just hides under a table, holding my footwear in his mouth. Shaking my head, I went to the bathroom to take a shower.
After changing into a pink top and white skirt, I went downstairs only to hear my mama singing in the kitchen. I smiled when I heard her singing the song.
My mama was a top notch chef in a five star hotel until she quit and opened her own café in the town. The café being close to a high school and a university is crowded every day. However mama takes a day off on Sunday’s to spend time with family.
My dada, being the elder son to my grandpa, was rightfully supposed to inherit the Beta title of the Regal Pack. However, dada refused and so the title passed on to my cousin, Zach’s father who is also dada’s younger brother. Dada wanted to be a speech pathologist and to get a master’s degree he had moved on to the town and that was when he met his mate, my mama. After I was born, dada shifted back to the woods so that I could be raised between our kind, and if I didn’t like it here then they would move back to town.
However, I became close friends with Little bear, twins and Cristina and then we permanently settled here. Dada goes town every day to his clinic, where he helps children with Autistic and Asperger condition speak. He is busy everyday however he takes half day off on Sunday’s.
Basically, Sunday is a full on family time for us where, mama cooks delicious food. First half of the day, dada is at work, I go for a run in my wolf form and Mama keeps cooking lunch for us. We spend the second half of the day together eating the food, watching movie, dancing, or either playing some indoor games. Being an only daughter, I am very close to my parents. What can I say? I am the light in their life.
“So what are you cooking?” I asked mama as soon as I entered the kitchen. My head felt heavy because of the lack of sleep last night. I think I barely slept for three hours.
“I am baking a cake” mama said when I peeped under the table to see Mumbles sitting there clutching my flip-flop in-between his jaws.
“Cake? For what?” I asked her kneeling on the ground and pulling my flip-flop from Mumbles mouth. “Give it to me” I said to Mumbles, who wasn’t loosening the hold he had on my flip-flop.
“Didn’t you hear? Tyson found his mate” mama said happily and I looked at her in surprise.
“Really?” I asked her and mama nodded happily. “Wow! That’s great. When did he find her?” I asked mama. Tyson had met her a year ago; since she was human he didn’t reveal to her that he is a wolf in first meet. They had gone out on one date and when he went to pick her for the second date, she had already left the town. Nobody knew who she was or where she was from. I had seen Tyson suffer and I am really glad that he is finally reunited with his mate.
“Yesterday, she was in the flash mob” mama said and I looked away. It brought back memories of my mate, whom I met and ditched yesterday. “I am surprised you didn’t know” mama added and I shrugged.
“I got away from there quickly” I told her when I finally pulled my flip-flop from Mumbles mouth.
“And why did you run away like that? No one else ran away the way you did. It seemed like you were running away from someone” mama said when I sat on the chair.
“I was running away from someone” I told her.
“Who?” she asked me and I lowered my head. I couldn’t tell her about my mate. She would be pissed off to know her daughter did something like that.
“Cole” I said instead and mama sighed. It wasn’t a lie; I was running away from Cole before I met my mate.
“That boy is still chasing you?” she queried when she set a plate in front of me.
“And many other girls” I added. “One moment he is asking other girls number with me and the next moment he is asking me out on a date” I said and mama chuckled while filling my plate with waffles.
“So, he spoke to her?” I asked mama.
“Yes. I don’t know exactly what happened but from what little information Zach gave to Lynne (Zach’s mom) it seems that the girl too couldn’t forget Tyson, which is obvious after all they are mates. I mean, once you meet your mate there is no one in this world other than that person” mama said and I smiled weakly.
While I was eating my breakfast, I was overthinking what mama said. “Mama, when you first met dada, what did you do?” I asked her after a while.
Mama who was also having her breakfast, smiled at me. Her blue eyes lit up and she seemed to be really happy with the memory she had. “I met your dada in a diner. I was around seventeen that time and Malcolm was around twenty two. I blame whatever happened that day on my age. I had come to the diner along with my friends for lunch where he was already having his lunch. When I saw Malcolm, I knew he was my mate. I was nervous to approach him. However, when I saw my friends ogling at MY mate-” mama said with a growl, “-I made the first move and went to talk to Malcolm”
“And?” I probed.
“And I created a ruckus” mama said and my eyes widened. “I was so held captive by Malcolm that I didn’t see a waiter, holding a tray full of food, walking in my direction. I dashed against him, he dropped the tray and fell on a nearby table, the food in the tray fell over me and in the end when I was finally sitting beside Malcolm, I had noodles in my hair and ketchup on my dress” mama said and I smiled. The situation was somewhat similar to what happened between me and my mate.
“What did dada do then?” I asked her. I was curious to know what my dada’s reaction to what had happened was.
“He was removing the noodles from my hair after glaring at all those, who laughed at me” she said smiling brightly.
“Aww” I cooed and mama blushed. Her cheeks were pink and she smiled, staring at her plate.
“I honestly thought Malcolm will ignore me after what had happened but no, he didn’t. He came to my rescue. I should have known he wouldn’t do something like that. We are mates and we are meant to be together, no matter what happens. Something so silly can never be the reason for us to not be together” mama said and the smile in my face vanished.
Guilt enveloped me and I realized that running away from my mate was the stupidest thing I ever did. I didn’t make a fool of myself when I fell down those stairs. I made a fool of myself when I ran away from him.
I wanted to apologize to him as soon as I meet him but I don’t know if I will ever meet him again. What if I meet him after a year, like Tyson and his mate? My wolf whimpered when she thought that. No, I will not be able to leave that long without him. She thought and I closed my eyes shut.
“What’s wrong?” mama asked me and I looked at her with a guilty expression. “Lory?”
“I made a terrible mistake yesterday” I told mama and just then our doorbell rang.
Mama stared at the door and then at me. “We will talk about this later” she said getting up from her chair to go and answer the doorbell.
I pushed my plate aside and banged my head against the table. Why did I run away? BANG! What was I thinking when I ran away? BANG! If my mate wouldn’t have rejected me then, he for sure will reject me now. BANG! BANG!
“Good morning, Aunt Kerry” I heard Tyson’s voice greeting mama while I was repeatedly banging my head against the table. Mumbles was barking at Tyson and I growled lowly wondering why he would bark at Tyson. Mumbles knows Tyson and even gets scared of Tyson most of the time.
“Good morning, Tyson” Mama replied and I decided to block all sounds around me and think about my mate. My mate who might hate me now, thanks to none other than me.
I kept thinking about him. His blue-green eyes, dark blonde hair, and the startled expression he had after I fell from those stairs, his voice, and the brush of his fingers against my hands. Perfect, my wolf thought and I shook my head. According to me, nobody is perfect. Nobody could be perfect but I couldn’t find any flaw in him at all- physically, however he did look very intimidating. The way his eyes had darkened just by looking at me, made me scared. He seemed to be powerful and like ones with the title too and the wolves with title are always dominating. They liked to have their way in everything.
I was the one with title too after all I do carry my dada’s beta genes however I don’t think the genes is very strong in me because I don’t look intimidating at all.
My wolf purred when I thought about my mate again. If thinking about him can make her burn with this amount of desire then I don’t know, how her reaction is going to be when I meet him the next time.
Next time.
