Part two- Chapter 25
“All truth passes through three stages: First, it is ridiculed;
Second, it is violently opposed; Third, it is accepted as self-evident.”
― Arthur Schopenhauer
DUNCAN P.O.V
I was pacing in my room continuously ever since Darya left. I was recalling what she had said about dad being involved in killings of the Elegance Pack. He couldn’t be involved, it just wasn’t possible. I was ready to believe that Darya could be my sister but dad being involved in this mess- that was a little too much to digest. He couldn’t be. He wouldn’t stoop so low. Why would he do that? He had a pack, a mate, a family therefore why would he go and attack another pack?
Sitting on the edge of the bed, I placed my palms on my knees and lowered my heads. I needed to think, ask a lot of people about what my dad did while he was an Alpha. He had always kept me away and hence I didn’t know what he did while he was an Alpha, however James, my dad’s beta would certainly know what he used to do and so I called him through the link and asked him to come to my office. I needed to talk to that man.
In the meantime, I called for an agency to redecorate my broken house.
“Did you need something son?” James asked me as soon as he reached my office. I saw his hazel eyes scanning my ruined office once however he didn’t speak anything about it.
“I know you were not only my dad’s beta but also his friend. So, did my dad tell you anything before he died?” I asked James, my voice unruffled even though I was trying to hear his heartbeat while he was speaking.
“No” James said and shook his head. “He did seem worried a few days before and he even said he would hand over the title to you and leave the country. In fact he even had me booking a ticket for him to Europe. He seemed desperate to get out of here but then just a day before he seemed completely alright and he then asked me to cancel the ticket, which I did. I was shocked to see the change in him but then I thought he was fine and he was just scared of O, so he was planning to give up the title” James said.
“O” I whispered the name. None in my pack knew that Sel, their current Luna is O and I liked to keep it that way. I didn’t want them knowing about it, ever.
“Yes O. The Alpha Killer, Abe was scared that he will come after him. He said O had killed his friends and that he was the next target. He was constantly troubled about O coming to kill him after Grier’s death. But then as time passed by his fear only grew and he would refuse to go anywhere without guards. In fact there were guards guarding him at night while he was sleeping. He was paranoid about the killer but when I saw the change in his actions that day, hours before his death, I did ask him why he was so happy. He didn’t reply well but just said that O will never be able to harm him ever again and that he was prepared to fight that killer.”
“Any idea how?”
“Said he had assigned some trained killers”
“To kill O?” I asked and a growl escaped from my chest because my dad had assigned someone to kill Orseline.
“He didn’t say whom but I assume it is O” James replied with a shrug.
“You knew who these trained killers were?” I asked him.
“No. He said that that the wolves are trained ones and who work for money however…” James trailed off and I growled at him. “What I meant to say is I think Abe was associated with the rogues”
“Rogues?” I asked with a thunderous growl.
“I am not sure son and I know it is wrong of me to doubt it, but I think so because there were dead bodies of rogues found had Executioner’s imprinted in their locket and… uh… Abe told me that the wolves he assigned were called as Executioner’s.” James concluded and I muttered a curse. What I was hoping for not to be true was turning out to be the truth. My dad was associated with the rogues.
“Executioner’s” I said with a growl. They were the group of rogues associated in the killings of Elegance Pack. “Fuck” I muttered lowering my head.
I couldn’t believe him. He was working with the rogues. He was involved in the killings of Elegance Pack. How could he do that?
“I am not sure son, I might be wrong too” James muttered but I shook my head.
“No you are not. Dad used to assign the rogues to do his work because he was a coward to do it” I snarled at the last part. “He has assigned rogues before too but I don’t understand how he managed to do all this alone” I added through gritted teeth.
“Before?” James asked me, his voice barely a whisper.
“I suspect his involvement in the Elegance Pack” I said and James looked away. His expression told me he knew something about it. “Did you know about this?” I asked him and James nodded. “You knew my dad was associated in the killings of Elegance Pack?” I asked him.
“He didn’t tell me but few years back I overhead him talking or more like fighting” James said looking down at the ground.
“With whom?”
There was a pause for few minutes before James spoke again, “Your mother” he mumbled lowly.
“Mom? She knew?” I said leaning back against my chair.
“I don’t know how, but she found it out and she was very unhappy about it. I had come him to give the reports of the patrol when I heard them fighting. Luna was yelling at your dad and then she rushed out of the house and drove away”
“When did this happen?” I asked him.
“The d-day sh-she died. She met with an accident and died be-because she had lost too much blood. She was heavily pregnant and that didn’t help because she lost the baby too” James said lowering his head. I closed my eyes and gulped.
I always blamed O for what happened but now I came to know O wasn’t the one to be blamed. My dad was to be blamed for everything. He involved himself with the rogues and plotted for the destruction of the whole pack. His actions forced my mom to go away from him, which ultimately became the reason for her death. He killed my mom. My dad killed my mom and he even tried to kill my sister and mate.
“That bastard” I spat through gritted teeth and James looked at me with worry. “How could he do this?” I snarled. I was ashamed to call him my father. I had never ever in my dreams thought him to be this heartless and cruel.
“Duncan” James called me and I shook my head.
“Why did you keep quiet all this time?” I shouted at him.
“I… I didn’t… Your dad ordered me to” he stammered and I growled.
“Do you know anything more about that old geezer because he was in deep shit and that deep shit caused his death, caused my mom’s death. Luckily my sister was saved” I said.
“Sister?” James asked questioningly.
“Not now, James. Tell me what all actions you found suspicious?” I asked James.
“Suspicious, No? Abe wasn’t like that. He used to be a good Alpha and was always protective about the pack, his family.” James argued.
“No, he wasn’t” I said shaking my head. “He was greedy” I roared. “Tell me did you find anything suspicious?”
“No, nothing. He was like any other Alpha. He was good friends with most of the Alpha’s except Scott. He didn’t have any problems with rogues; in fact there hadn’t been a single rogue attack in the pack since years”
“That’s because he used to feed half of his income to those filthy mutts” I spat. I was disgusted by my dad’s action.
“He used to work here and so… if there is anything suspicious, you will find it in this office” James said worried, “But as far as I know, Abe was never working with the rogues after what happened to Luna-”
“Until O came, because once O rose, he knew the truth would come out and to cover his name he decided to kill O and that is why dad associated with those rogues again” I argued.
“What truth?”
