Chapter 3
I don’t know when I will meet him for the next time, whether I’ll even meet him for the next time. Oh how badly did I mess things between us! What might he think of me? He might hate me and even my wolf- who by the way was wiggling her tail again- because of the foolish decision I made.
“Lory?” I heard mama calling me, however I continued banging my head against the table and punishing myself for the decision that I had made. A decision like that, which could hurt both of us, should have never been made in haste. I will forever hate myself if I don’t get to see him again.
“Lory” mama called louder this time and I stopped banging my head, however didn’t look up and meet her gaze. I knew she would grill out the truth from me; however I felt too much of a coward at the moment. All I wanted to do was run and hide somewhere.
“Malory” I heard an unknown voice calling me. The voice sent shivers down my spine, while my wolf’s eyes lit up in delight.
I instantly shot up and looked at the person who had called me. My eyes were wider than saucers when I saw my mate standing in front of me. He was here, in my house, standing next to the dining table. Just that awareness made me lean back against my chair.
THUD!
I leaned back with so much force that, one leg of the chair lost its balance and I fell on the floor along with the chair, on my side.
“Lory” mama shouted and rushed towards my side. However, I stood up before she could come and help me. “Are you okay?” mama asked me holding my arms, but I didn’t look at her. My gaze was on my mate, whose eyes were turning darker each passing
MALORY P.O.V
I was trapped. I couldn’t escape, couldn’t run anywhere else from here, because wherever I go at the end of the day, I would return back to my home. And he, my mate, was in my home. Judging by his stance, the dark eyes and clenched fists, I knew he was more than annoyed. He was livid.
There was complete silence between all of us and the only noise was coming from Mumbles, who was playing near Tyson’s feet. Mama was staring between me and my mate while I was fidgeting like a leaf.
My mate on the other hand was piercing hole on my head with his gaze. I knew I am going to piss in my pants if this continues for another whole minute.
Mama was the first one to clear her throat and I turned to look at her when she walked towards my mate. “Hello dear” she said smiling at my mate. “I am Kerry. Malory’s mother” she said and extended her hand to my mate.
“Nice to meet you mam” I heard my mate replying to my mother, in a polite tone.
“There’s no need for mam. Call me Kerry” mama told him. All the while, I didn’t even once look up at my mate or my mother.
‘Why did you run away?’ Tyson’s voice in my head suddenly made me jump in fear. I was surprised to see Tyson standing right beside me.
‘I embarrassed myself’ I replied to Tyson, while I calmed down. I was friends with Tyler and Tyson since childhood and so I am pretty comfortable around them. He is the current Alpha of the Regal Pack after Little bear left the pack to live with her mate.
‘Lory, he is an Alpha’ Tyson said and I gulped. I suspected it already and now that my suspicions proved correct, I felt my heart sink to my stomach in fear. Running away from an Alpha? Good luck getting out of this, Malory. I thought sadly.
‘Huh’ I said through the link.
‘Yeah! But don’t worry, he is a good guy’ Tyson said and I looked at him in surprise wondering how Tyson knows my mate. ‘You don’t know who he is?’ Tyson asked me stunned and I shook my head. Tyson sighed. ‘Uh… well you didn’t meet him when he came to Regal’ he concluded.
‘How do you know him?’ I asked Tyson.
He was quiet for a minute, before answering me. ‘Let’s just say we are partners in some business’ Tyson said and I frowned.
‘So he is your friend?’ I asked doubtfully and Tyson nodded.
‘Little bear’s too’ he added and I sighed. How come they know him and I don’t?
‘Oh’ I said. That is why she was talking to him yesterday. I still didn’t know anything about my mate other than that he was Tyson and little bear’s friend. I was about to ask more with Tyson when mama spoke loudly all of a sudden.
“Tyson too found his mate yesterday” she said and I turned to look at Tyson who smiled at mama. “What happened a year ago Tyson?” mama asked him.
“Piper’s grandpa expired and so she left town that day. Piper, Caleb- her brother and her dad were staying with their grandma ever since then” Tyson said.
“Oh! I had told you before that there might have been some family problems if she had to go like that.” mama said and Tyson smiled. “And I’m so happy you found her back. To celebrate that I made a cake for you” mama said and Tyson’s face lit up like a kid’s on Christmas morning.
“Thanks Aunt” Tyson beamed.
“I’ll get it for you” mama said and went into the kitchen with Tyson behind her. That left me alone with my mate and Mumbles. I didn’t dare look at him, instead I kept staring at Mumbles who was sitting on the floor and looking at my mate in confusion.
His gaze was bothering me more than I would like to admit. So to distract myself, I bent down and picked up the chair that had fallen with me. I set it straight and gasped in surprise when I saw my mate standing right in front of me.
We both were standing on either side of the chair. My heart fluttered in excitement of finally being able to see him again. I thought I would never be able to see him after yesterday, however I was more than happy to see him in front of me. I was scared too, but happiness beat it.
He looked so good in his blue jeans and grey shirt that I couldn’t possibly look away even if I tried to. I knew I owed him an apology and so I spoke first. I prayed to goddess that this time, I wouldn’t end up making a fool of myself.
“I… I am sorry” I apologized sincerely.
“For what?” he asked quirking his brows.
“I shouldn’t have run away” I told him. I could do this. I could talk to some stranger without panicking.
“Then why did you?” he asked me. His brows were furrowed and his hands were still clenched to form that fist.
“I-” I was saved from giving that reply when my mama and Tyson appeared from the kitchen with Tyson holding the cake in his hand. I thanked God for saving myself from replying to him.
“Thanks Aunt, I am going to leave now” Tyson said and kissed Mama on the cheeks. “Bye Lory” he told me and nodded once at my mate before going away.
“Kerry” my eyes widened when I heard my mate calling my mother. “I need to talk to Malory, alone” he said and my wolf hummed happily when she heard my mate uttering her name. It felt good to hear him call my name but the fact that he wanted to talk to me, alone, marred that.
“Sure” mama said and looked at me. “Lory, take him to your room. I will be calling your dada” mama said and I whined slowly. I know mama is going to tell every stupid thing that I did yesterday to dada.
“Lory” mama said in a warning tone that indicated I do just as she says. I looked at my bare feet and nodded.
I then went upstairs with my mate following me.
My room felt small when he stepped inside it. He seemed so big-I knew he is above six feet-that he made my room seem much smaller. A rivulet of anxiety sprinted down the length of my spine when I realized the power he exuded, just by standing beside me.
“Uh… This is my room” Way to go Lory, as if he hasn’t figured it out yet!
My mate wasn’t the one interested in talking nonsense which is why he turned to face me, with dark eyes and continued the topic I had hoped was over downstairs. “Why did you run away?” he asked me and his tone suggested that he wanted nothing less than an honest answer.
I paled and interlaced my fingers. “I-I got s-scared” I stammered. There was a silence for a whole minute from his side and so I looked at him. His eyes were back to blue-green and they looked hurt. Why would he be hurt?
Because he thinks you got scared of him and ran away, my wolf answered for me.
What? No? I admit I got scared of him but I didn’t run away from him because of that. I ran away because I got scared that he might reject me for what happened before that.
