Chapter 3 continuation

“No” I said all too quickly and he looked at me through furrowed brows. I knew my behavior was making him confused. “I d-didn’t run away from y-you. Sure you are intimidating and powerful but I didn’t run away because of that.” See, I could speak clearly with strangers. He is not a stranger, my wolf remarked but I shushed her. He was, for now. “I ran away because I got embarrassed, for you know…” I trailed off and looked at my feet.

“I am not lying” I told him when he didn’t reply. I thought maybe he doesn’t believe that I am telling the truth. “I don’t lie and when I lie people don’t believe me” I added because those were the proofs of me not lying.

“Who told you that?” he asked me and I looked at him in surprise.

“I had tried a few times” I told him and even gave a weak smile. He raised his eyebrows and nodded once. “You don’t believe me?” I asked him when he didn’t reply me.

“I believe you” he told me and I sighed in relief. Oh Thank God!

“Thank you” I told him and smiled weakly. Just smile properly; you should be confident when you approach people, I thought in my head. Another thought popped in my head and so I spoke again, “Also, Please don’t tell anyone I fell from those stairs” I pleaded.

One side of his lips curved upwards to form a grin and he quickly looked away. My wolf yipped in excitement when she saw her mate smiling for the first time. But looking at that smile made me panic. What if he shares it with all his friends?

“Please?” I asked desperately.

He looked at me and nodded. “You get scared easily don’t you?” he asked me and I looked at him, startled.

“Not all the time” I said. It was the truth; I don’t get scared all the time. It’s not like I look behind my shoulders every time to see if anyone is following me. I just get scared when there are strangers around. It’s more nervous than scared. He may be my mate but right now he is still a stranger because I don’t know anything about him other than that he is an Alpha.

“I don’t believe you” he said and I narrowed my eyes. He was implicating that I was lying.

“I am not lying” I said frowning at my mate.

In a flash, my mate was right in front of me making me short of breathe and my heart to beat wildly in my chest. I was extremely aware of the close proximity between us, aware of his steel muscled body. I didn’t look up at him instead stared at his chest. I so badly wanted to trace my fingers on his chest. I closed my eyes shut and hoped he couldn’t sense the desire in me.

You are not going to faint. You are not going to faint. I kept repeating in my head.

I anxiously looked at him wondering what he was about to do. He inhaled deeply, taking in my scent and I swallowed audibly. You are not going to faint, I reminded myself again as the palpitations were back. My wolf liked that our mate was close to us, however I was scared by having him this close. No one has been this close to me. When it came to boys, my experience was equal to zero. I haven’t kissed any boys before either and I wasn’t ashamed about it either. It was my choice, waiting for my mate.

You are not going to faint.

The moment I felt his hands on my waist, I gasped. Oh yes! I am going to faint and with that my eyes rolled back and darkness welcomed me.

When I opened my eyes again, only Mumbles was in the room with me. I sat up and gave a very unladylike yawn. My eyes widened when I saw that it was around two in the afternoon. I couldn’t believe I slept that long. No, wait! I fainted.

Oh God… No! I groaned. I fainted when my mate was about to touch me and that is ridiculous. It just proved to him that I get scared easily.

Sighing, I got up from the bed and went downstairs.

“Oh Lory, you woke up” mama said to me as soon as she saw me.

“Hmm” I said and my eyes widened when I saw my mate sitting in the couch of our living room, along with my dada. As soon as mama spoke, his eyes were on me. I was glad he didn’t leave me and walk away.

“You didn’t get any sleep last night and that’s the reason you fainted” dada said with a worried look in his face.

“I told you I would sleep with you. What time did you sleep?” mama asked me.

“I don’t know. I couldn’t get any sleep after the nightmare” I said gently.

“What nightmare?” that was my mate asking me. He was standing next to the couch with a deep frown etched in his face.

“Lory had a nightmare about the rogues” dada answered and immediately my mate’s blue-green eyes turned dark black and a thunderous growl escaped from his chest. I have never heard any wolf growling that thunderously.

I took a step back and so did my parents.

Growls after growls escaped his chest, each one making me blink. “I hope he doesn’t lose control to his wolf” mama said from beside me.

“Uh-huh” was all I managed to say.

“I think he is going to shift” dada whispered from beside me and I didn’t even realize when he walked closer to us.

“Oh” I said.

“What do we do Malcolm?” mama asked panicked.

“We cannot do anything. Only Lory can” dada said and I turned to face him in horror.

“No” I said and shook my head.

“He is only going to listen to you, Lory. Just… hug him” mama said and dada growled nastily at that. “Malcolm” mama said in a warning tone. She was telling dada to control his fatherly side right now.

“I… I go and hug him, then what will he do?” I asked mama worried. My heart beat wildly inside me at the thought of hugging my mate.

“He won’t attack you. He will calm down” mama gave me the assurance I needed and I sighed. Ok Good! “Go” she said and I took a step forward. My eyes widened in surprise when I saw Mumbles hiding behind the couch and trembling. He too was scared of my mate’s growls.

Gulping, I took another step forward, another and another until I was right in front of my mate. I looked at him and pained slashed through me. He was trying to control his wolf but it was difficult for him. His claws were out and to take it back, he had enclosed his fingers to form a fist. But when his claws cut through his skin, blood started oozing from those cuts.

My wolf whined in pain when she saw his blood dripping from his knuckles. That hurt me too and so without any hesitancy, I took a step forward and held his hands. His eyes opened and I blinked in fear when I saw how dark they were. Another loud growl came from him and I tried not to jump at the sound.

“Move” he snarled at me and I immediately lowered my head. “Malory” he said through gritted teeth. A rivulet of shiver ran down my spine when I heard him call my name. Even though he had said it in anger, it made my heart skip a beat. My name never sounded so good.
