Part Three- Chapter 19
“I know it is a bad thing to break a promise, but I think now that it is a worse thing to let a promise break you.”

Without taking her eyes of me, Darya stood up. Her eyes were still burning red and her lips were compressed to form a thin line. With a growl she raised her left hand and dropped Rick’s head, which she was still holding in her hands, backwards, and it fell near his body.
“What the-”
“-Fuck” Quinn completed what Nevin began.
Then she tilted her head towards the back, took in a deep breath and then lowering her head, let out that breath. When she opened her eyes, they were back to the steel grey ones.
I stood staring her at, while also wondering how I could have not figured this out. If I had wanted to, I could have figured everything about Darya, but I didn’t only because of my own rules.
While pulling her cellphone from the pocket of her shorts, Darya turned and started walking towards Rick’s body.
“What are you going to do?” Quinn asked in a whisper beside me.
I wanted to strangle her and admire her at the same time. “Nothing” I sighed shaking my head and Quinn stared at me with wide eyes. I watched Darya, who placed the cellphone next to her ear and waited for someone to answer her call.
“What happened?” I heard Tyson’s voice from the other end, while Darya pulled out a test-tube that had moon flower fragrance.
“Shut the website. Rick is dead” she said and I gritted my teeth.
“The The The website… sh-she made that website?” Harvey stuttered in disbelief and I nodded. Well, Tyson made it but surely on her instructions. It was her plan to trap Rick and I am sure that I came in-between her plan.
“What about the waste?” Tyson demanded while Darya pulled out a lighter. She let go the highly flammable scent on his body first and then the lighter.
“Burnt” Darya replied walking towards me, while flame spread all around Rick’s body.
“Oh My God” Quinn whispered.
“Alright” he said and hung up.
Locking her gaze with mine, Darya strode ahead but all of a sudden stopped in her tracks and smirked. “You are late” she said and I frowned at her.
It wasn’t until she looked over her shoulder that I realized she was talking to someone else. As I followed her gaze, I clenched my fists and growled murderously when I saw Ekon, another one of Konrad’s aids.
“Devise or mishap?” she demanded turning to face him. Behind me, the boys stiffened and growled at the sight of another enemy. So a dog did come to pick up the bone!
“It is what you think it is” Ekon replied to Darya with a shrug.
“I was expecting Cable” Darya told him.
“Konrad knocked him out” Ekon retorted.
“Ah, so you chose to come?”
“Maybe”
“Ekon” Darya said gently and nodded once.
“Darya” he said with a same tone and smiled. The sight of this pathetic mutt smiling at my mate, made my wolf furious and he raised his hackles.
“Kill him” I commanded.
“Don’t” Darya shouted, flipping her hair and turning to face us. “No one is going to touch him” Darya warned in rage. Her one hand was stretched as if barring us from attacking Ekon and her eyes were the color of flames.
However, my friends ignored her warning and still went to hurt her.
What happened next would have been complete blur for others, but not for me. I saw it happening. Before my friends could get anywhere close to Ekon, Darya stopped them by hitting and knocking them out. Her movement was so fast, that my friends didn’t even realize where exactly she was. All they could see was a blur figure moving here and there, knocking the others.
In the end, Nevin was kneeling on the ground and gasping for air, while Darya held his throat. Ram, Clay and Harvey were on the ground, groaning in pain, while Quinn was standing beside me and watching Darya with wide eyes.
Glaring at me, Darya hissed through gritted teeth, “Ask them to step back right now Alpha or I’ll kill them one after the other, starting with your Beta.”
My wolf was furious to see his mate defending a rogue. My whole body started trembling in rage. If I wanted to, I could make her bend on her knees and beg for forgiveness for this amount of disrespect towards her mate’s pack wolves.
But I did not do so!
I did not do so because I wanted to know why Darya was defending Ekon.
She is definitely against Konrad and killed two of his aids, then why is she not killing Ekon. I wanted an answer for that and this was the only way of getting it.
“Q, ask them to step back” Quinn advised.
“Step back” I commanded through gritted teeth, glaring at Darya. I am definitely going to deal with her later.
Immediately Darya dropped her hold from around Nevin’s throat and then took a deep breath to calm herself, while my friends slowly stood up and hobbled to stand behind me.
“God! What is she?” Harvey croaked.
“I couldn’t even see her coming” Ram added.
“You didn’t have to do that” Ekon told Darya, his voice a whisper.
“I don’t want them hurting you” she said and my wolf howled painfully. Why does she care about this rogue? “Why did you come here Ekon?” Darya questioned in a grave tone.
At her question Ekon blinked and gulped before answering, “I knew you would kill the person who would come to help Rick” he replied. “So, I thought, I must come” he added in a voice, full of emotion. I couldn’t hide my astonishment as I understood the meaning behind his words. “I realized who you are a long time ago. Forgive me for disrespecting you. If you want to punish me for my sins, then I am ready to take the punishment but I cannot leak any information about Konrad to you. The life that I am living today, is a gift from him. The day he saved me, I had promised I would serve him until my last breath. Nothing can hurt him as long as I am standing right in front of him.”
Darya took a deep breath and then sighed, before saying, “You are a good man Ekon. Even while working with the wrong people, you have retained your goodness. Your only sin is your attachment towards your promise.” I narrowed my eyes. I knew Ekon’s weakness was his attachment. I had thought it was to Konrad, but now I knew it was towards the promise he made. He is not ready to break the promise.
“Promising is not a sin. But if your promise hurts others, then it is a sin. To keep your promise, you have hurt a great deal of people. All you were concerned about was that your promise should not be broken and amidst that, you have forgotten the difference between right and wrong” Darya stated and I had to agree what she said was veracious!
Ekon gulped before saying, “Are you saying that I should have broken my promise?
“Yes” Darya replied without any hesitation. “The moment you saw an innocent suffering in front of you, you should have broken that promise. Your promise isn’t more precious than the life of that innocent” she added shaking her head.
“I have done that same mistake once Ekon” Darya added after sometime and I frowned. “I had asked Seline to promise me that she would keep my identity a secret, from my brother, who just happened to be her mate. When I forced her to promise me, I didn’t know, didn’t grasp, that I was creating a barrier in their relationship. And when I did realize my mistake, they were parted. I immediately made her break that promise, but she wasn’t ready to. So instead, I made a new promise that I am going to bring them together” Darya concluded with a smile.
