Unusual for a Fae

Crystal had already pondered several questions that might be asked in such a scenario, and the headmistress had asked one of those questions just now.

Though she yearned to follow the advice of her father and the mysterious creature from her dream, Crystal knew that appearing suspicious and foolish by blindly trailing Custos to a strange place was not an option.

“I don’t know about any special powers, but there is one thing--” Crystal took a pause, still contemplating whether it was a good option or not, but when the headmistress tilted her head, waiting for her to continue, Crystal decided to just take a leap of faith.

“I have always heard weird noises in my head, even if there was no one around.” The headmistress furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, and Crystal’s breath hitched for the lost cause. She was praying inside that she had not put herself under the truck already.

"I must say, this is a rather exceptional circumstance. Throughout my tenure as headmistress spanning six centuries, I have yet to encounter a case similar to yours." Crystal blinked in disbelief, still not sure if she was supposed to take that as bad or good news, and she was also astonished that the headmistress was still going strong after more than six centuries. What a shocker it was for her. "Nevertheless, rest assured that we shall exert our utmost efforts to provide assistance to you. The faculty members of our academy are fully committed to offering their expertise in any capacity deemed necessary."

Relieved by the headmistress's reassurance, Crystal heaved a sigh of relief. She had successfully navigated her way through the first challenging situation.

Basil raised her hand in the air and flicked her two fingers after rotating her wrist once towards the biggest bookshelf. One big book appeared and traveled in the air to the desk, landing itself squarely in front of Crystal.

She was awestruck by the spectacle, her throat catching as she suppressed the urge to stand up and applaud.

"Vivlio Emfanisis, the book of origin," the headmistress announced as Crystal gazed upon the cover. The book was a rich shade of brown, with a golden frame designed to resemble twisting vines. The title was embossed in gold, and positioned prominently in the middle.

Headmistress gestured with her hand, and the book opened to reveal a series of familiarly unfamiliar symbols.

"Once upon a time, faeries, demons, vampires, werewolves, mermaids, and goblins were all adversaries, united by enmity.” The headmistress chuckled, finding the notion of all those magical species vying for power against each other absolutely ridiculous.

Crystal gazed intently at the pages of the book, absorbing each word with meticulous attention. As she read on, she discovered that every specie had its own symbol; the Fae symbol was a pair of wings, Demons had a symbol of demon horns and bat wings, Vampires had an ankh symbol, the Werewolf symbol was three scratched prints, the Mermaid symbol was a symmetrical seashell and lastly, Goblin symbol was a small round face with pointed chin and ears.

"However, when the realms were plunged into ruin as a result of the animosity, the rulers of that era took a stand and collaborated for the sake of peace. As a symbol of this reconciliation, the same leaders created this academy." Crystal was listening to the headmistress in amazement, fascinated about how there were so many versatile beings, and yet she had only seen humans and animals.

"So, what am I?" Crystal inquired, her heart pounding with excitement. Headmistress's lips curved into a gentle smile. “You most certainly my child belong to us fae. However, we must discover your true potential through practice."

Crystal felt elated - she had finally taken the first step towards discovering her true self. Although she knew that there was still much more to learn, but her identity as a Fae as her first answer made her feel accomplished.

"I am the faerie of guidance," the headmistress continued, "My kind not only illuminates the path but also illuminates the correct path for those who are lost and misunderstood. However, that is not the extent of our capabilities. As a Fae, you possess numerous magical abilities, such as telekinesis, as demonstrated by lifting an object such as this book." Crystal nodded her head with an ‘o’ made up with her lips.

"Although a considerable number of faeries reach their full potential in terms of magical abilities by the age of eighteen, it is not unheard of for us to be unaware of our full range of capabilities. You need not fret, for there are numerous students like you who will be placed in specialized courses to assess their magical aptitude. Hence, there is no need for you to be apprehensive about anything."

"Under the guidance of our talented professors, you will learn about the history and future of our world," the headmistress explained. "I am confident that you will thrive in our academy. I shall let you go now for the morning is waiting for all."

Headmistress snapped her fingers, and from a grilled door on the roof, emerged a tiny creature. It was a small puffball with blue fur, blue eyes, and small, transparent wings that constantly fluttered to aid its flight. When it stopped in front of Crystal's face, she saw tiny hands and feet emerging from the puffball's fur, as if they were connected directly to the creature and it did not have arms and legs to aid the length.

"At your service, Headmistress," the blue puffball said in a high-pitched voice before letting out a beautiful, melodious sound that resembled the singing of a bird. Crystal couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the sheer cuteness of the creature. First Custos, and now this magical animal - her heart felt like it was going to burst with cuteness overload if that kept happening.

"Tweety, kindly escort Ms. Smith to her assigned quarters in the dormitory," the headmistress instructed politely. "Yes, Headmistress," the puffball replied, before letting out another beautiful melody.

“Follow me,” said Tweety cheerfully looking at Crystal who in turn looked at the headmistress as if to ask permission and when she nodded, Crystal took her luggage and followed Tweety out of the office chamber.

“Crystal Smith-- a very usual name for a fae,” said the headmistress as she looked at Crystal’s vanishing figure, feeling a bit skeptical about the situation.
