Chapter 4 The Duties of a Wife

Chapter 4 The Duties of a Wife

"No..." Kairi didn't know if it was due to the pain or the anxiety, but there were tears in the corner of her eyes.

She was already in too deep, she couldn't let her efforts go to waste! She must secure her stay with the Mccarthy family.

"I'm just... ah!"

Scott pushed her away as he did not want to hear another explanation. "I'm even more disgusted by women like you who want to retain their cakes and eat it too."

Scott didn't even look at Kairi who fell to the ground awkwardly. He turned around and wheeled himself away.

Kairi gently bit her lower lip as she watched Scott leave.

"He didn't remind me to leave the Mccarthy family. Does it mean I can stay?"

She wrapped herself up with the quilt and went back to bed. She waited around ten minutes for something to happen, but fortunately all remained peaceful. Kairi let out a sigh of relief. It seemed that she had succeeded.

Kairi was alone in the room for the whole night. It might seem that Scott had acquiesced in her suggestion to be nominal husband and wife, who would have nothing to do with each other.

Kairi changed her clothes and went downstairs. She saw a group of helpers busy working.

Just as she was about to ask them where the kitchen was, a broom suddenly appeared under her feet. Kairi staggered and lost her balance as she fell forward.

"Ah!"

Just as she was about to hit the floor, a pair of big hands swooped in to keep her from falling.

Kairi, who was still in a state of shock, looked up and saw a pair of warm and tender eyes.

"Are you alright, Dulce?"

"Dulce?"

"I'm Scott's eldest brother. My name is Charlie." Charlie said amiably.

Before Kairi could answer, she suddenly heard an icy voice. "It seems that I have come at the wrong time."

"This voice..." Kairi looked in the direction of the voice.

Darien was pushing Scott on his wheelchair with a thin blanket over his legs and they were heading towards Kairi.

Although he was sitting in a wheelchair, he resembled a king.

His steely gaze fell on Kairi's face like blades.

Kairi couldn't help but to shiver as her eyes met his.

Only then did she realize that she was still in Charlie's arms. She quickly took two steps back to distant herself from Charlie and lowered her head guiltily.

"Scott, it's rare to see you at home." Charlie kept the smile on his face as he looked at his younger brother.

However, Scott treated him differently. He wore a blank expression on his face as he nodded lightly. "Charlie."

"Well then, I will leave you and Dulce alone."

Charlie looked at Kairi and said gently, "Dulce, I have to go to the office now. See you."

Kairi nodded blankly and watched Charlie leave. Just as she was about to look away, she heard Scott say sarcastically beside her, "Are you really this deprived as a divorcee? You really can't wait to seduce a man, can you?"

Hearing this, Kairi suddenly came to her senses. "What did you say?"

Scott's eyes were dark and there was a shadow under his eyes. Kairi could feel his hostility.

Kairi bit her lower lip and said, "I am not as promiscuous as you think."

"Is that so?" The smile on Scott's lips was full of mockery. He did not take her seriously at all. "A recent divorcee who can't wait to remarry. Is that not promiscuous?"

Kairi was a little angry as she clenched her fists.

Was she looking to remarry willingly? No, she was coerced into this.

"You'd better keep to your promise of steering clear from the Mccarthy family. If I find out that you misuse the name of the Mccarthy family for your personal gains or if you have any ill intentions towards anyone in the Mccarthy family, I will make your life a living hell."

"Darien."

Darien pushed Scott away.

After they left, a maid came over and informed her, "Madam Dulce, our Grand Master would like to see you."

"Grand Master? The Grand Master Mccarthy?"

Kairi suddenly became nervous.

Her mother said that the Mccarthy family had never seen Dulce before, and it was because of this that her parents audaciously let Kairi replace Dulce in this marriage.

If Grand Master Mccarthy wanted to see her now, would her real identity be exposed?

Kairi followed the maid nervously.

"Madam Dulce, please go in."

The maid's attitude was very humble. Kairi thanked her and walked into the study cautiously.

The study was similar to what she had imagined. The grand and solemn study had antique ornaments and bookshelves. On the shelves, there were all kinds of vintage calligraphy, paintings, and books.

After a quick glance around the room, Kairi immediately withdrew her gaze and focused on the person in the room. "Grand Master, nice to meet you."

When Kairi saw Grand Master Mccarthy's eyes, she was mesmerized by his penetrating gaze.

Grand Master Mccarthy was sizing her up.

Remembering her own identity, Kairi suddenly became nervous and lowered her eyes. She was afraid that Grand Master Mccarthy would see the guilt in her eyes.

She had straightened it out with Scott for the time being, but what should she do if Grand Master Mccarthy found out that she was not Dulce?

"Dulce."

"Yes?" Kairi instinctively raised her head. Upon meeting Grand Master Mccarthy's eyes, she quickly lowered her head.

Grand Master Mccarthy's gave her a sharp look and his words that followed were very serious as well.

"Scott has always suffered from health issues since his childhood. Since you married him, you should take good care of him in the future. I trust that I don't have to teach you your duties as a wife, or do I?"
