CHAPTER 5 The Invitation
Apparently, Lady Mohini had lost the patience to continue talking to Amanda. She stood up, left a threatening note, and left. In the large room, only Amanda sat there. She lowered her head very low, thoughtfully thinking about her mother's request. Does she have to be successful? That was much more difficult than jumping into the sea of fire. Amanda looked at herself in the mirror, trying to find a good part of herself so that she could successfully attract Justin Stephen's attention. But looking back, she didn't find herself attractive at all. Just an ugly girl that scares people.
Originally, Lady Mohini had requested to keep the sighting with Diana secret. But somehow, the little girl found out that her mother made her sister go on a blind date. Diana herself did not like the position of parents to arrange the happiness of their children. Besides, she also knew, Amanda didn't like this. No matter how everyone look at it, it was her mother who forced Amanda to do so.
"Amanda, why would you agree? Can not! I'm going to see my mother. Our family has nothing to do with this sighting. Something called benefits, our family doesn't lack."
Diana hugged her sister and sobbed. She didn't want Amanda to suffer. The day before at the ball, her sister was insulted by those stupid ladies. Without her by her side, what should Amanda do? And Amanda looked at her twin sister who was holding her waist and cried, she didn't know how to explain it for a moment. Amanda gently stroked Diana's long hair, she tried to comfort her sister.
[I am fine. Besides, this is the first time my mother trusted me. Diana, shouldn't you be happy for me?]
Amanda smiled slightly, and she did not forget to add that she herself had asked Lady Mohini to let her come to the blind date. This was the duty of the eldest child, so she couldn't avoid it. In the end, Amanda also knew that Diana wouldn't be stupid enough to not know she was lying on purpose. But anyway, seeing the eyes of Justin Stephen, is also a duty that she has to do.
Since it was an obligation, surely Amanda wouldn't be able to evade it. Furthermore, she couldn't let Diana protect her forever.
[Diana, let me protect your happiness. At least, that's what I can do for you.]
Amanda gently wiped her sister's tears. Diana cried a lot, was tired, and fell asleep in Amanda's lap. Therefore, she could not see the sad face and eyes of her sister as she looked at the silver moon in the night sky.
A week later, Amanda was again called by Lady Mohini to the main house. Standing in front of Lady Mohini's office, she tried to take deep breaths to calm herself. Amanda couldn't remember how long it had been since she had been allowed to enter her mother's office. The last time seems to have been almost ten years ago. She wondered if her mother had called her here.
"My lady, miss Amanda has arrived."
The house butler knocked on the door for Amanda. There was no response, only an eerie silence. The butler didn't think much, he pushed open the heavy wooden door, letting Amanda go inside.
"Coming already? Sit down."
Lady Mohini didn't even look in Amanda's direction, she just quietly told her eldest daughter to take a seat. This relationship is like Amanda is just an outsider invited to work with her, not the daughter she gave birth to.
"The Stephen family has sent an invitation. Sure enough, Justin Stephen personally invited you to the party. Amanda, I ask you to finish this. The relationship between the Mohini and Stephen clans was inherently good, but it was not enough. Do you understand what I mean?"
Amanda heard her mother's distant tone, and could only grit her teeth and nod. As expected, if it wasn't for the sake of taking advantage, she would never have set foot in the main house of the family. Her fate, perhaps forever is a piece of chess. Lady Mohini received an answer from Amanda, she slowly opened the drawer.
"This is your invitation letter. Justin Stephen's party starts tomorrow. Prepare well. I said you can only succeed, not allowed to fail. What I said was never a joke. Surely you understand this."
Amanda nodded once more. She can't talk, so she can only use body language instead of words. Amanda didn't want to go to this party. But, she has no other choice, she can only grit her teeth and accept. Because she is an unrecognized lady, she has no voice of her own.
Early the next morning, the butler brought many servants to Amanda's bungalow. It was Lady Mohini who asked them to make up Amanda so that she could stand out from the audience today. Honestly, those servants didn't like Amanda either. In their eyes, the Mohini family had only one lady and that was Diana. As for the person who lived in the shabby wooden house outside, she was just a raised monster.
[Butler, I don't need their help. You tell them to go outside.]
Only the butler and Diana were two sign language learners in the Mohini family. For the rest of the people in the Mohini family, learning sign language is annoying. Furthermore, they had no intention of serving the mute monster, Amanda.
"Miss, this is the lady's request. I'm afraid we can't disobey the lady's request."
The old butler spoke slowly to Amanda. She sighed, if it was her mother's request, then no one could disobey. She could only withdraw her hands and sit still while the servants did her makeup.
In an instant, the servants finished their work. Amanda looked at herself in the mirror, slightly dumbfounded. Her face is carefully made up, and her hair is also lightly curled. Even the turquoise dress she was wearing was made of high-quality fabric. Amanda wondered, how much effort could her mother put in to make her can be the daughter-in-law of the Stephen family.
