CHAPTER Five - First Stage Of The Selection = First Drama
The other human women might be intimidated by the vampire women in the competition, but I wasn't. I knew that they weren't better than me and we were equal, so I had every right to win and free the human race from this slavery.
I also knew that I couldn't say my thoughts aloud unless I wanted to be lectured by her, so I only nodded, "Alright, I shall see you tomorrow."
She nodded at me with a small smile then turned around and started walking away. I turned back and looked down at the dress in my hands. It matched my skin tone well and hand a see through material around the chest area with a large rose designed at the right hip.
The dress would definitely bring the King's attention to me and make a good first impression, well, second impression since he had already met me. Deciding that I would wear it, I placed it on the bed and made my way to the door to close it.
After changing into the beautiful, lime green dress, I opened the door and walked out before closing it. I wondered about Lenna and Lydia as I started down the hallway. Have they arrived at the palace yet, and if they did, where were they?
As I reached the top of the stairs, I saw many other girls, some human while others vampires walking down the stairs. I made my way down the stairs and tried to see if any of them were Lenna or Lydia. None of them were, so I picked up my pace and went in the opposite direction of the door just like Marta told me to.
As I walked down the hallway, I saw several women walking beside me and going in the direction of the sound of classical music and chattering. I walked with them to the fourth room on the right and found myself inside a very large ballroom.
I have never been inside a ball room before, so it looked very extravagant to me. Several, beautiful chandeliers were hanging down from the white, high half oval-shaped ceiling. Beautiful vampire women and gorgeous vampire men filled the room while human servants walked around serving snacks and blood on the trays in their hands.
The women that walked into the room along with me gathered at the front of the room where an elderly woman that looked to be in her fifties stood. I followed them and stood there. She glanced at me among the vampire and human women then narrowed her eyes. "You, when did you arrive here?"
"This evening, Ma'am." I replied in my small voice, and the other women turned to look at me.
"Let me have your name." She said in a stern voice.
"Jannah."
"Jannah what? What is your last name?" She asked with a small frown on her brows.
"Just Jannah, I am an orphan and I don't know who my parents are."
Her frown disappeared and a look of surprise showed on her face. "How comes no one assigned a last name to you?"
"I don't know, Ma'am." I replied and she sighed.
"Fine, I will add your name among the competitors. What is the name of your mistress or master?"
"Lady Mary."
"Ah, I see." She replied as she seemed to realize that she knew her.
She turned her attention to the other competitors walking into the ball room. I turned around to watch them as well and I saw Lenna and Lydia walk in. They saw me immediately and smiled as Lydia waved. They walked towards us and the older woman that seemed to be in charge of the competition asked for their names.
"Lenna Lee, Ma'am." Lenna replied, shyly as she stood beside me.
"Lydia Von." Lydia answered her while standing beside Lenna with more confidence than her, but she could also be timid sometimes.
"Alright." The vampire woman replied then turned to the next women entering the ball room.
Lydia and Lenna immediately turned to me as Lydia said, "Jannah! I am so happy that we can participate in this competition."
"Yes, me too. We now have a chance at gaining freedom." I said with a smile touching my lips.
"Shhh! Jannah, you cannot say that here unless you want to be punished or worse, beheaded." Lenna said as she looked around us fearfully.
Lydia laughed as she said, "Relax, Lenna. We are only talking amongst ourselves and Jannah is right. I believe that she can become Queen and save us all from this God forsaken slavery."
I raised my brows in surprise as my eyes widened, "What makes you believe that I can? What about you two?"
She scoffed as she shook her head, "Jannah, have you seen yourself? You're beautiful and will definitely capture the King's attention. Not only that, you are so confident even though you are a slave like us, but you have the personality of a Queen."
"Well, thank you for the support, Lydia." I smiled at her, but still felt worried about what would happen if I didn't win.
"I believe in you too, Jannah. I know that I cannot win, I don't even have a chance with these beautiful and cunning vampires, but you are different." Lenna said as she placed her hand on my arm while giving me a smile.
Her words made me remember what the Vampire King told me earlier when he sniffed my neck. He said that I didn't smell human and didn't seem human at all. Was I something else? Were there other creatures other than the ones that I already knew, because I knew that I wasn't either? Maybe I was human, but just different.
"Thank you, Lenna, I will try my best to win this." I promised as I looked between the two of them.
I heard a sarcastic laugh that made me turn to the sound. It was a vampire woman dressed in a white dress and she had stepped closer to us as we were talking. She looked at me from my black shoes to the top of my head as she scoffed. "You think that you have a chance at winning?"
