The entitled Luna
Mae's POV
"Her highness is a mysterious one but she still gets to know everything that runs in the palace," Astrid said to me and she squatted pushing the tray in. I stretched my hands forward to get the food, ignoring the pains.
"How come the Alpha cheats on her if she's so mysterious?" I muttered, clearly confused. If she was as mysterious as she looked. Then how come she doesn't know about the Alpha's affair?
"She knows. The thing is, she can't do anything about it as she is just titled Luna," Astrid's next words resounded in my ears like she could read what I had in mind.
" What do you mean?" I asked, clearly confused.
" Please eat while I explain to you, my lady. I do not have much time left to stay around," She smiled at me, her attention slightly distracted.
I nodded as I took in the food. At first I thought the delicious taste would come out but all it felt at that moment was like I was eating nothing.
I'll just take it as something to fill in my empty belly.
I thought so as I waited in anticipation for her to continue.
"You know. The Luna is from a powerful Pack and there has been a rumour speculating around the palace that the Luna was sold to the Alpha just to fill in the post while he looks for his mate," She said.
" The reason was, the Alpha was being threatened by the elders in the pack about him getting a mate. They stated that it has never been in tradition in the royal line for an Alpha to not have a Mate after 3 years of crowning," She added as she shook her head.
" Their relationship is really twisted and there is not much to say about them. At first, when the elders saw that he was about to marry Luna, they were very excited and thought that she would be the queen."
"He shattered all these thoughts and made a bold declaration. If she wanted to be the Luna of the Pack and his queen, she would have to go through the trials he set. She has to go through the sufferings to be worthy," She added, this time heaving a deep sigh.
"What is it?" I asked bothered as to why she sighed like that. And somehow I felt that there was something bad she was going to say.
"It was so unfortunate that she messed up. Look here, Mae." She moved forward, her white hands placed on the rusty bar.
" The palace is harder than it looks. There are people everywhere looking at you two four seven. They are looking for a slight mistake on your part and using it against you. And that was exactly what happened to the Luna,"she revealed as she sat quietly on the floor, not minding the dirt.
I munched on the chips as I listened to her story. I was interested to know more about the history of the palace and more… about the power struggles.
The power houses and all. I do not plan to offend them as I am just an insignificant being.
"Then I guess she must have been bitten from the place she least expected," I stated calmly as I waited for her to continue.
"You may be right but up till this point. No one has been able to get evidence that she did it. It was said that around 10pm in the evening a dead body was found at the Orchard of the Luna. It is not a surprising thing that she loves flowers and fruits a lot…" She stared and I accidentally dropped a chip when I heard her words.
Dead body? What does this mean?
"It was no surprise to say the least. As the Luna forbids everyone from the orchard both her guest and husband, she feared that they might hurt the followers. But the event that day made matters worse for her." Astrid said, her voice turning not more of a whisper.
"Some people used this against her, pointing at her flaws and that was how she was exiled for 3 years now. They couldn't behead her as there has been no proof or evidence that she commited the crime. But even though she's out of the Palace, her power is frightening," Astrid commented at last as she got ready to leave.
"My time is up. It is about time that I leave. I hope you do hang up there for a while before you can be taken to a safer place my lady," She bowed slightly then walked away.
I wanted to ask her lots of more questions but I decided not.
It would be suspicious if they noticed that she took too long here. This might get her into trouble and that is the last thing I'll ever want to happen to her.
"The Luna I see. An entitled one with great powers but still rules even when sent to exile. I must be wearing it, she might be a veg bug obstacle," I slapped my forehead as she was an obstacle.
A very big one at that.
What can I go to get her off me?
I sighed heavily as I stared at the cold dark floor surrounded with bones.
"If she's as cruel as Astrid said, then I have to be more than careful. I hope I am not among her watch list because I am hundred percent sure she has a lot of spies in the palace," I sighed heavily as I rested on the cold war, completely exhausted.
We just have to see how things go. I guess this is the beginning of a hard struggle for me.
No matter what happens or what it takes I must fight this.
Just as I was about to close my eyes and rest up a bit. I heard the sound of heavy footsteps and soon the gates were opened and that pot-bellied man walked in, a smug look on his face.
"Take her with you. It is the time for the first pace," He said as he walked away from the room, his eyes not placed on me since he came in.
" What is going on? Let go of me!"
