Chapter 6

Olivia's POV

I knew this wasn't the time for me to be curious, but I just can't help it. However, Jake and I began to fight the pack members one after the other. The fight became fierce with each passing seconds, but none of the team was ready to give up.

But something baffles me more; if Alpha Kaye is dead, then why are the pack members still haunting me?

With my long paws, I lunged further towards an elder in the pack and slit down his throat. He fell to the ground, groaning and spitting out blood. Suddenly, the other pack members stopped and all looked in my direction. The elder shut his eyes, dead, and I howled out in pain; pain of the unseen and everything Alpha Kaye had cost me.

I slowly transformed to my human form and walked to where Jake was, we were surrounded by the members of the pack.

“You think this is a joke?” I yelled out with all the strength in me, gyrating at a fast pace.

“You think you can snatch my life away from me? Your Alpha had been doing that to me for a while, no, but not anymore.” I pointed a finger at them as they also changed to their human form.

“This baby is mine. And anyone who tries to go against that would end up like him.” I said, half yelling and pointing at the dead man.

At that moment, they all retreated and ran into the woods. I suddenly felt weak and fell to the ground. Jake helped me before I got to the ground and hugged me mild tightly.

“You're brave! I'm proud of you.” He said at me.

I felt myself trying to reply to him, but my lips felt weak. My whole body felt inert and that was the last thing I remembered as I blacked out.

Jake's POV.

“Hey! Hey!!” I called out as I patted her face in a rather hard way.

“Open your eyes. Hey? Wake up, please.”

Still, there was no response from her. I needed to get her to the hospital, her body temperature was rising at an immense rate. Grunting, injured and tired, I lifted her from the ground and carried her to the road. Luckily for us, a taxi was coming our way at the moment and I stopped it. We got into the taxi.

“The nearest hospital, please.” It was the perfect way I could describe my destination to the driver.

He nodded as he also understood the emergency. He drove at a fast speed while he kept looking at us through the mirror to make sure she was okay.

“We're here.” He said as we closed in to the hospital's entrance.

“Thanks, but I have no money to pay you now.” I said in a low and pitiful voice.

“It's fine, buddy. I'm glad I could be of help.”

I carried her out of the taxi and rushed her to the hospital. The nurses took over, placed her on a stretcher and took her in.

“You have to wait here, sir.” One of the nurses said to me as I tried to follow them.

“Will she be fine?”

“We will try our best. You should stay here and wait. Please.” She said and went into the theater room too.

I threw a hot, frustrated fist into the air and huffed. I sat on the chair, but my heart was still restless.

After about an hour and half, some nurses and the doctor emerged from the theater and I rushed to meet them.

“How is she? Is she okay now?” I asked, not giving them a break to answer me.

“She is fine now. She would be moved to a ward soon.” The doctor said and went his way.

“Meanwhile, you will have to sort out the bills.” One of the nurses said.

“Oh, yeah! The bills.” I said in a low tone, realizing I have no money on me.

“May I please borrow a phone?”

The nurse handed me her personal phone, “You have to be fast with it.” She said as she handed it to me.

“Thanks.” I mumbled and went to a corner of the hospital.

I punched in some numbers on the phone and dialed it. It was answered after a few rings.

“Hey, buddy. It's me, Jake.” I said in a low, trembling voice.

“Hey, Jake! Where have you been? It's been a while now.”

“I'll fill you in later, but now, I need your help.”

“With what?”

“I need some cash, please. Like $500.” I said, and he replied with a wild laughter.

“And how are you going to pay me back?” He asked amidst his laughter.

“I promise, I'll pay you back. Please, this is a matter of life and death.”

“How, Jake? We both know how you are. BROKE!”

“I know......... Okay, how about this?” I grunted softly in frustration. “How about I work for you, to pay you back? How about that?”

“What? The mighty Jake wants to work under me?” He scoffed.

“I got no better choice. Is that a deal?”

“Sure. I'll transfer the amount to you now.” He said and hanged up.

I grunted softly and returned the phone to the nurse.

“I'll make the payment soon. But can I see her now?”

“Sure. She is ward… 32A.” She said, looking down at the computer in front of her.

I nodded and went to the said ward. And there she was, still lying on the bed. Her eyes opened slowly as she felt me touch her hand. She looked around for some seconds to absorb the new environment.

“Are we in a hospital?” She asked, her voice alarming.

“Yes.” I nodded with a faint smile across my face that didn't last the next second.

“What? Did something happen to my baby?” Her voice was more alarming than the first as she sprang to a sitting position.

“Shuuussh. You and your bad are fine. You just need to rest.” I squeezed her shoulders gently and placed her back in bed.

“Thank you, Jake. I really appreciate all of these.”

Those were her words, but there was more she wasn't telling me; it's so obvious in her eyes.
