Chapter 7

Her Brilliance

Jessica and Hudson arrived at the school campus. Jessica stepped out of the car with some iota of ego inside of her. Hudson moved to her and hugged her again for almost the tenth time today. They were so happy to see each other again. Hudson held Jessica's hand and motioned her to the classroom. Meanwhile, Prof. Ramson was in the class already lecturing their fellow mates.

Jessica moved inside the classroom alongside Hudson. Hudson was holding her hand as they walked inside the classroom.

All gazes were fixed on them. Everyone marveled over Jessica's glamorous dress. They knew her previous look and could testify how better she had looked now. Ann and Nassani opened their mouth as Jessica walked in. Ann was so ashamed of herself, she could see how beautiful Jessica is and could not dare call her a local girl anymore. In terms of beauty, Jessica was more than her, in terms of body stature Ann was no way compared to Jessica.

Ray's heart thumped to race as he saw Jessica with another rich guy. He fixed his gaze on Jessica as she walked in and could tell how beautiful Jessica is. This was the first time Ray would stare at a girl like that in a long while and this doesn't go unnoticed by Bethel. He turned around and his gaze met with Bethel. Bethel could see affection in Ray's eyes, she could tell that Ray was probably falling for Jessica.

" Hey, come back here" Prof. Ramson commanded as Jessica and Hudson walked past him.

Jessica and Hudson moved to his front while their hands were still tightly clenched with each other.

" why are you guys just coming to my class? You guys are not just late but have the effrontery to walk majestically past me " Prof. Ramson removed his lens and blew hot.

Jessica and Hudson looked at each other and echoed, "We are sorry, sir"

" You guys are empty brain, dullard and yet you are playing ' Romeo and Juliet' in my class " Prof. Ramson added to mock while other students laughed rigorously at them.

" I can't but give you the punishment you deserve so that you could serve as a lesson to those who think they can come to my class anytime they like"

" Well, if you could solve the above equation on the chalkboard correctly I will spare you else I will take you to the school authority," Prof. Ramson said and returned his lens to his face but placed it just at his nose cone.

It was a strange topic for Hudson but to Jessica, it was just as simple as the counting of numbers. It was elementary calculus, a topic she had played with when she was eleven years old.

Prof. Ramson didn't believe a new student like her could have an approach to calculus. He believed they were all new to further mathematics, especially in calculus.

Before Hudson and Jessica bounced into Prof. Ramson's class, Prof. Ramson was encouraging the students in the class to work hard and make their school proud. All he had been teaching them were like magic to them including the exercise he gave to them on the chalkboard.

There was this mathematics quiz that takes place every year in the country. Private institutions like this compete with other private schools and the winner would be promoted in the country. Shockingly, since the quiz had started, this campus has never for once fallen among the first 30 winners and it was a slap on Prof. Ramson's face. This school is full of spoiled brats so what do you expect from them? So you could see more reasons why Prof. Ramson was so vexed to punish Jessica and Hudson.

" The answer for number one is, 23x^3/ 56dx while the answer for number two is 5ydx" Jessica pronounced boldly without hesitation.

The whole class was silent in awe as Prof. Ramson checked his handout maybe her answers were correct. Surprisingly, it was perfectly correct.

Prof. Ramson removed his lens again from his face and opened his mouth as if he had been paused. He bent his head downward and looked at Jessica so closely. Meanwhile, the classmates were anticipation to know what was exactly going on. They didn't believe Jessica could solve the questions for seconds and even without using a pen and a book.

" She is correct, clap for her" Prof. Ramson mumbled as he was still drowning in surprise.

" Oh, my God, Jessica" Bethel jumped up from her seat unknowingly before she quickly sat down after many jealous eyes fell on her.

Ann was at a point of imploding, she never knew Jessica was as good as this in mathematics. She was so scared and jealous of her and if she had a gun she could just shoot her right away.

Ray was no more convenient in his seat. He gave a startled 'wow' as Prof. Ramson confirmed the answers. He was forced to release an undeniable smile which was caught again by Bethel. He quickly frowned his face as his gaze met Bethel for the second time.

Ray's dream was to become a professor in mathematics. He loves it and was inspired by his late grandfather who was a guru in mathematics plus, this country respects a mathematic guru more than any other branch of science professor and that was the reason for the mathematics quiz that kicks off every year. He was about to give up since he was finding it so hard to understand the basic of mathematics. He had once shared his desires with his friends and that was why Bethel looked at him once again. Ray found more reasons why he should chase Jessica apart from his father's company that was at stake.

" I have never seen a human as brilliant as you before," Prof. Ramson said with a shaking voice. He seemed emotional as he had been waiting for this day to come since forever.

" What's your name?" Prof. Ramson asked and moved nearer to her.

" I am Jessica" She responded and looked away.

" I'm interested in you, dear. I need you to come over to the school officials after today's lecture not for your offense but for recognition" Prof. Ramson added gleefully.

Professor Ramson motioned them to their seat freely. Well, Hudson knew Jessica was brilliant so he wasn't moved by this but he was happy for it radiated him some honor.

" The class is dismissed for today, you should all meet Jessica for a personal tutorial," Prof. Ramson said and moved out of the class.

The class was dismissed and everyone started murmuring in excitement over Jessica's brilliance.

Jessica was seated close to Hudson and his friends. Hudson is barely the second most popular guy in the school because of his ability to play football so he was always gathered by his fellow mates who took him as their boss.

Bethel left her seat and moved towards Jessica. But as she walked to Jessica she met Ann in her seat drowning in jealousy. " I never knew Jessica was this good in mathematics," Bethel said. Ann hissed and left her seat in response. Bethel dismissed her jealousy and moved to Jessica where she was gathered by students for assistance. The students had gathered her for a brief explanation of the topic.

" Hi, Jessica, I never knew you were this brilliant" Bethel moved to Jessica and said as she gifted her a hug.

" Hi," Bethel greeted Hudson.

" Hello," Hudson responded.

" Is he your boyfriend?" Bethel sneaked into Jessica's ear.

" We will talk about this later" Jessica responded.

" Alright, Hudson. Thanks for the ride" Jessica patted Hudson's shoulder.

" Yes, I will come to pick you up at night," Hudson said.

" No probs, Hudson," Jessica said and left with Bethel.

Ray was in his seat and this moment didn't go unnoticed by him. He gets more jealous the more he sees Jessica with Hudson. Ray seemed to have unknowingly developed feelings for Jessica because it was written all over his face.
