FIRST NIGHT TOGETHER

Not to brag, but investigating is Troye’s forte; it is where he exceeds. He had solved several cases already; may it be easy or difficult ones. And as a result, he had received tons of awards because of his performance.

Thus, he’s confident about taking all those bastards down.

A phone call rang on the surface, catching both of their attentions. Troye picked up his phone and the same contact number appeared that called earlier.

“It’s your mother.” Troye casted a glance at Hailey who just let out a heavy sigh.

“Ah, there she goes again. Now that I blocked her number, she would use you.” She responded. Troye furrowed at the puzzlement of her statement, but he eventually got what she meant given the recent moments.

Her mother just ordered him to pass her his phone as she has something to tell her, it was because her mom couldn’t reach her as she’s block listed.

“Give me your phone.” Hailey made a gesture.

“I understand your persistence, mom. You have provided me a bodyguard already, so can you please refrain from making this poor guard as your bridge to reach me?” she greeted the other line with irritation.

“What was that thing I heard earlier?” her mom asked out of the subject. Hailey frowned but later on rolled her eyes and accidentally met Troye’s gazes who’s looking at her sternly as though as reading a book.

“The usual.” She replied and rolled her eyes once again at him.

“What?”

“Another threat again.” She talked as though as she wasn’t having some kind of that reaction earlier. Troye twitched at the sight for a second.

“What kind of threat is it this time?” her mom asked.

“A dead rabbit.” She replied, and the other line responded with an exclamation, causing her to distance the phone from her ear.

“This won’t do. They’re leveling up their threats! There could be something bad that might happen to you, now that you received something like that. I won’t let that happen as your mother, of course. Therefore, from now on, Mr. Gomez should beside you all the time. He should stay with you even, in your unit.”

Hailey gaped her mouth open as her eyes widened in disbelief upon hearing her mother’s last statement. Did she hear her right?

“What?!” she exclaimed and stood up abruptly. “Mom, you can’t do this to me! It’s invading my personal time!” if she could remember it clearly, there was a clause that indicated that he’s not allowed to her personal time, but then?

“It’s your safety that is our top priority, Daine. I’ll be retrieving the condo unit that I’ve provided for Mr. Gomez.” Her mother remarked sternly. “Pass the phone to him.” Her mother ordered, and as though as an innocent kid, she obliged.

Hailey lost strength, resulting to throwing herself on the couch and stared at the wall in disbelief regarding to her mother’s decision. “She’s losing it! She’s definitely losing it!” she pulled her hair out of frustration.

“Yes, ma’am,” Troye muttered as he received the phone, even he couldn’t believe that decision.

“As former police as you are, you could definitely distinguish the right from the wrong so I didn’t have to remind you. But… I have to tell you this one thing, don’t you ever try to take advantage of my daughter. Got it?”

“…Yes, ma’am.” He answered with his heavy shoulders. Her mother has decided already… he’s really going to stay in this unit from now onwards as told. They will be now living together.

“And the report?” the other line muttered, prompting Troye to stand straight.

He glanced at the hopeless Hailey first before telling to her mother about her activities today. It seemed like her mom won’t bother reporting to her in front of her daughter’s presence.

“Alright. Please, take good care of her.” Theresa, her mother, then dropped off the call.

Troye stood there in silent, still processing the recent order. He hasn’t lived with a woman before, except for his mother, thus, he’s contemplating. However, this situation is different from the others, as they will be living together as a bodyguard and boss.

“She couldn’t take care of me by herself, so she passed the responsibility to you,” Hailey scoffed. “I knew it. It’s always been like this after all.”

“God! This is driving me nuts.” Hailey hissed and stood up. She was about to walk away to pace toward the second floor where her room is at, when she turned around to see her bodyguard.

She and Troye stared at each other, although she possessed that fiery gazes and Troye with those calm ocean eyes. Hailey took a heavy sigh before briefing him about a few things that he is only allowed to do inside her unit.

“First and foremost, you are not allowed in the second floor. The only room available in this room will be yours. And you cannot touch anything in this household without permission,” Troye still listened even though he has no intention of doing the aforementioned.

“Another thing, inside this household, my words are the rules, indicating that even if you’re ordered by my mother or anyone who’s inside this unit or even through device means, you should not oblige. You should only listen to my words. Understood?” she added in her authoritative tone as her index finger aimed at him.

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Then, dismissed.” Hailey remarked and walked away, pacing to the stair, without looking back.

As the sight of his boss has gone, Toye let out a heavy sigh that seemingly contained with all the unfortunate happenings that happened today. He looked up and roamed his eyes around. Due to the circumstance that arose a moments ago, he didn’t get to appreciate the interior of this unit. To be frank, if his previous unit left him amazed, then this one got him stunned.

This one’s got the better design and is even wider. So wide that he struggled to find the room that Hailey talked about earlier. It took him almost thirty minutes to find it that he almost gone passed every corner of this floor.

Troye opened the door, revealing a seemingly different dimension because of the wide all plain white-colored room that one could think it’s the hospital’s room. Unlike the lounge that got the black-themed.

“I should call a doctor now,” Troye joked that he couldn’t help but to chuckle at the thought. But those thoughts instantly vanished as he remembered his father who was left alone in the house.

His smile faded. “I have to make a call…” he murmured softly and picked up his phone.

“Hey, dad!” Troye greeted the other line jovially. He leaned on the wall and stared at the wall across him.

“Oh, son, aren’t you coming home tonight?” his father replied.

Troye went in silent for a moment and smiled, “Yes, dad. I have some news for you, but I should tell you about it by tomorrow.” He replied, disappearing his smile.

He has to let his dad know about his situation before things gets worse and difficult to handle.
