I advanced to the classroom and saw something that scared me. It was one of those poisonous spiders, with its shiny yellow and black body. I had almost forgotten how dangerous this country was. As I thought about what to do, the spider inched toward me, as if it knew how scared I was. I couldn't allow myself to be paralyzed by fear; I had to act fast. I froze because those things scared me, at that moment Kessler appeared and looked at my scared face.
“What's wrong with you, girl? do spiders scare you?” I nodded and he smiled “don't worry, spiders are not dangerous here, they are not really poisonous. I myself accustomed them to my presence, so you don't have to fear them” Kessler approached the spider and took it in his hand, I moved away from them. He laughed and told me not to hurt him. Now I understood why Kessler wasn't afraid of spiders, but I was still very scared. He took her out the window and I could breathe with relief, I had realized that I had started a normal conversation with him. Kessler had taught me that we should not fear things that are unknown to us, but rather learn from them. Although spiders are dangerous, he showed us that we can live in harmony with them. "I'm leaving," I told him, walking into the classroom.
"Thank you would be nice," he murmured mockingly. I rolled my eyes and moved to a place near the window. The students were just entering, I was wondering if I would make a friend here. Or maybe better not, so as not to have to deal with something else that was alien to me. However, someone approached me, sitting next to me. She was a red-haired, thin and pretty girl. She smiled at me so I smiled back. "Hello," she said quietly. "I'm Charlotte, but you can call me Lottie. I study biology and I also really like animals.”
I was surprised by her confidence in me but I was not upset. I liked Lottie.
"I'm Eva," I introduced myself, pulling out my notes. I glanced around the class and sighed. "And what course are you studying?" I asked Lottie.
“Biology and anatomy, we have several classes together. You're the new girl I guess, someone like you doesn't go unnoticed” she smiled at me. I thanked her for the compliment. I didn't expect it to be so easy to make friends in this place. The class went by very quickly and as soon as the bell rang, Lottie got up to leave. "We have to go, but do you want to meet up later?" I wonder.
“What time?” I replied.
“At ten o'clock in the library?" She suggested.
"Okay, see you then." I got to the library a little before ten and sat down at a table near the entrance to wait for Lottie. After a few minutes, she arrived and sat across from me with a book in her hand.
“How was your day?” She wonder.
“Well, I'm tired but I like school," I answered honestly. Lottie smiled and opened her book.
“And how about your classes? You like them?”
I nodded and opened my book as well. I was tired after a long day of school, but I didn't want to leave yet. I liked being with Lottie, she was fun and easy to talk to. It seemed like we had been friends for a long time. At that moment Kessler entered the library and the same girl who kissed him, I went rigid at that moment, I don't know why but it bothered me to see them together, I don't like the girl. Kessler sat down at Lottie's table and she smiled at me. I felt more uncomfortable than ever, I didn't want to be there, but I didn't want to leave either.
The girl asked Lottie if she could come over to her house after the library, Lottie nodded and I got up. “You go?” Lottie asked me. I nodded my head and told her I had to go. I left the library and was relieved to be out of there. I don't know why, but seeing Kessler with another girl made me really sick.
A hand took my arm causing me to turn, I found Kessler face to face.
“What do you want?” I blurted out reluctantly.
"You're still rude," he raised an eyebrow, "I like you."
I blinked several times without understanding and slipped out of his grasp.
“I don't care if you like me, besides, don't come near me.”
“You're scared of me?” He wanted to know, I think I was crazy because I would have sworn I had seen his eyes darker than normal. Outside the raindrops took me out of my reverie, it was cloudy and it was raining.
"Your eyes..." I started to say, but stopped myself, I didn't want him to think I'm crazy. “Forget it.”
"I ask you again: are you afraid of me?" His voice was thicker, darker.
I laughed.
“Please, I'm not afraid of you” I approached dangerously “In fact, you're pitying. That bad boy stuff is out of style now.” I winked at him, turned around, and walked away from him with my heart beating a thousand miles an hour.
I went to the cafeteria because I was very hungry, I had my lunch, this time I didn't want much, I just chose a chicken pasta sandwich, some fruit and a yogurt. There were many students here, I think more than there were in my old school. Most of them looked at me with evil eyes. I sat at a table in front of a huge window that overlooked the backyard, where afterward there was only forest and fog. I liked this kind of weather, where there was no wind at all, just gray clouds, drizzle, fog and cold. It brought back good memories.
"What was that about the library?" Lottie sat next to me with her lunch, she had scared me.
"Lottie, I nearly choked," I cursed, sipping on yogurt.
“I'm sorry.”
"I don't know what you're talking about." I looked ahead.
“From Kessler and his girlfriend.”
Hmm is his girlfriend.
"No, I mean, I don't like them. Especially him, he is all arrogant.”
“It's strange, before he didn't even look at me and now he even sat at our table.”
I shrugged.
"I don't know," I pretended not to understand, I didn't want him to assume that he did it for me.
"Well, you have to be a little careful with them, okay?" she advised me, this time I did look at her because I didn't understand what she meant.
“Why?”
"They are... well, experts in breaking girls' hearts, Eva, they are experts in conquering girls with a special glow and then turning it off," she murmured. She said it as if she knew them very well. “Be very careful and please don't fall for their charms. Eva, they have something that makes girls do what they want” she pointed at them. I followed her gaze to a table where Kessler and some other guys were sitting. As if sensing my gaze, Kessler looks at me and smiles sideways, but it wasn't a friendly smile but rather a challenging one. I knew that I had come to put myself into the lion's den.
"I don't quite understand what you're saying but believe me, I could never look at someone like Kessler “he's not my type," I told Lottie without taking my eyes off Kessler, however his jaw hardened as if he had heard what I was saying. I had said which was impossible because we were far away, right?
“Anyway, I'm glad I met you, Eva.”
I turned my gaze to her and smiled at her, however, Lottie stared at someone or something behind me. I looked where she was looking and realized it was Lucas, Lottie's gaze towards my brother was one of love interest towards him.
