CAUGHT IN THE ACT
“Oh my God, Mark!” Emmie yelled as she pulled up the sheets to cover her already naked body, the moment her eyes locked with Mark's.
However, Mark remained quiet as he tried to process what was going on.
“Mark, it's not what you think.” The man spoke, but Mark passed right by him.
His heart shattered into tiny pieces as he tried to console himself on what he just saw. Having nothing to say, he brought out his phone and took a picture of what he had just seen.
“Mark, listen, I was doing this for us, we need a male child to…” He didn't wait for her to tell more horrible lies.
The doctor had said they were both fine. So, he didn't understand why she was using that to do whatever she wanted. Was she trying to call him impotent in from of another man?
He exited the room before she could complete her statement, slamming the door in a manner that caused Emmie to flinch.
“What do we do now?” Her eyes widened and her breathing uneven as her eyes darted around in panic.
“I don't know!” The man she was with replied as he fell on the bed in uttermost confusion.
On the other hand, Mark wasted no time getting into his car. Seeing what he just saw, made his eyes burn.
The tinted glass of the car prevented him from being seen as he sobbed continuously, nonstop.
“How could you do this to me, Emmie, I'm I much less of a man?” His hands ruffled his head, and it got to some point when he felt like pulling his hair one by one off his skull.
“No, no, what I saw wasn't real, this is a dream!” He yelled, trying to put himself together as he gave himself a resounding slap on the cheek.
“Wake up! Wake up!!” He sobbed helplessly.
Who would have believed that his wife stubbed so low as to sleep with some random man.
“No, I want to wake up, please let me wake up.” His tears trail down his cheek and his handsome face had turned all red.
“What would I tell my child, I can't even bear to look her mother in the eyes anymore?” He sniffed, trying to put his broken heart together.
He had given his wife everything she wanted, but he couldn't quite figure out what was going on.
Memories began to flash through his head and he inhaled as the picture played like a loop tape on his mind.
The first day he met Emmie was like a fairy tale. It was in their senior high school year, and he recalled running in the hallway. Unfortunately, he wasn't even concentrating on anything except on how to get to class.
He was running so fast he bumped into her, the new student. She was beautiful, and she took his breath away the moment he saw her.
“I'm so…rry.” He stammered, even in his breathless state.
“It's fine.” She spoke, and her voice was like that of angels.
Her books had scattered on the floor and when he tried to pick it up, she also tried to pick it up, which made them hit their forehead against each other.
“I'm sorry.” They spoke at the same time and this time, they giggled in a low tone.
“What's your name?” She moved her hair that was blocking her view and for Mark, it was like he was in a slow-motioned video.
“Mark.” He replied, picking up the books in a hurry so that she wouldn't have to do any of the work.
“What's yours?” He asked when he stood up to meet her gaze, handing over the book to her.
“Emmie.” Her reply was short, but her smile left a longing in Mark's heart.
“Oh then, I guess we'll see sometime later, I have classes to attend to.” He spoke, itching his head nervously as he ran off.
“Hmmm.” Emmie giggled before walking to her class.
He recalled how they kept pairing them until they decided to become friends and slowly, friendship turned into a relationship that was the envy of many but sadly, he had to go to a college far away and since Emmie said she couldn't cope with the long distance, they agreed for the both of them to break up the relationship and move on with their lives.
Soon after, Emmie began to make tantrums about Mark, saying how much she needed him.
She would spend her days crying and her night sulking. It got so much that her parents had to call Mark and beg him to accept their daughter back.
After much thought, Mark knew he still had feelings for her, so he accepted her back and after college, they got married and had their first baby, which was a girl.
“I don't understand, why would she do this after loving me so much that she would spend her days crying over me!” Mark was still sobbing in the present as the past played themselves back in his mind.
“Shit, shit, shit, shit!” His hand continued to hit the steering wheel, causing blisters to appear.
“I loved you, you promised not to leave me.” The image of their first night together appeared.
He was all sweaty and so was she. Their first night together had been filled with so much intimacy, moans, and cries of pleasure.
After all that, she turned to Mark, holding his face close to hers.
“I'll love you for infinity.” She smiled, smashing her lips with his and after a little while, she broke the kiss.
“Can you promise me something?” Mark smiled, his hand tracking the kiss marks on her skin.
“Yes, anything for you, darling.” She confessed, making Mark smile.
“Can you promise me that our intimacy will remain within us, that no one will have what is mine?” He grabbed her thigh and pulled her closer to him.
“You naughty man.” She giggled,
“I promise you.” And bit her lower lip.
“Fuck you, you lied to me!” He broke down even more than before. It was like everything was against him today. His memory and his wife. Two things he held so dearly.
He closed his eyes, his head resting on the neck rest of the chair as he took in deep breaths to calm himself down.
He had told the people in the office that he would arrive today, so he thought it was better to occupy himself with work rather than remain like a cry baby.
He exhaled deeply and just as he was about to start his car, he received a call from his investigation.
“Hello boss, I just spotted your wife with a man, leaving the hotel.”
“Don't worry about them, I won't need your services anymore either.” His voice was as cold as ice and as hard as stone.
He started his car, drove direct to the company. The drive was short because the meeting point wasn't actually far from his company.
“Good day, boss, how are you doing?” One staff greeted.
“Good afternoon sir, would you like me too…” he didn't reply to anyone, not even his secretary as he boarded the elevator which led to his office floor?
“Did you notice his facial expression? I wonder what's wrong. The boss is always cheerful.” The gossipers in the company, spoke among themselves but later let it go because they would rather not get fired.
“Ahhh!” He screamed once he got to the office, pushing all the documents that were on his table to the ground before going to get a bottle of vodka from the bar in his office.
“The only way out of this is to forget the pain.” He spoke, clenching his chest as he moved to his seat.
In no time, he loosened his tie and popped open the bottle of vodka, gulping it directly, like a thirsty child.
“What's there to live when what you're living for doesn't even appreciate you!” He continued gulping the drink as he lamented in sorrow.
“Eunice.” It sounded like a whisper to his ear. He had almost forgotten, “I'll just send the company's driver.” He pressed a red button on his table and the next minute, he placed a call to the secretary.
“Yes, Mr. Mark, you called.”
“Uh, yeah…” the vodka had started taking effect on him.
He chuckled before continuing.
“Ask the company driver to pick up Eunice from school.”
“But sir, it's not time for her to be picked. She's normally picked up by 3 and this is 2:30pm.”
“What's the difference? Do you want to lose your job!? His voice was firm, but you could easily tell he was getting drunk.
“Get her here now." He yelled at the secretary, who didn't waste time obeying his words.
She called the company's driver and immediately relayed the message to him.
Although the secretary was concerned, she couldn't figure out why he was in such a bad mood.
“Fine, I'll do as the boss says.” He hung up the phone as he entered into the company car to go pick up Eunice.
He was gulping his drink again when his eyes widened in realization. Everything became so clear, and he quickly put down the bottle of vodka.
“She has been making a fool out of me for a long time.” The image of the man he saw with her in the hotel room suddenly became clear.
“It was the man she introduced me as her high school friend.” He spoke in awareness.
