Chapter 1
Sunlight poured into the room through the slit in the white curtains as the once quiet room was now filled with the buzzing of an alarm.
"Ah! Fuck this. What time is it?" Sophia grumbled, sitting up on her bed. Her narrowed eyes scanned her surroundings as if it wasn't her own room but a stranger's.
She ran her hand through her hair to roughly comb it as she picked the alarm beside her bed to check the timing.
6:00 A.M.
The digital clock read making her eyes widen in surprise. "Shit! The interview is at 6:45!" Sophia cursed under her breath as she jumped from her bed and ran into the bathroom to have a quick shower and get ready for her interview.
She couldn't afford to be late and lose this opportunity. No, she just couldn't. Not after she had to drop out of school because of her parents who thought alcohol was more important than their child.
The child who could have made it far in life. But, she couldn't. Why? Because of money. She was haunted every night by the day when she had to tear apart her invitation to study at Cambridge under scholarship just because her parents didn't want to shell out some money for her to travel to the University.
The paper anyone would have died to have, laid there in her hands. Torn into pieces. Just like those dreams in her head.
How good would it have been if Uncle was still here? He would have never let her dreams be destroyed. He would have never allowed anyone to bring her to this state.
Sophia walked out of her bathroom dressed in a plain white shirt filling the air with her sweet lavender scent which could have made any male come crashing down to his knees just to have a taste of her.
"This might be your last chance, Sophia. You have to get this job. Fighting!" She encouraged herself and pumping her hands into small fists, she walked to her wardrobe. She skimmed through her clothes rejecting every single piece of clothing lying there until her eyes landed on a black pencil skirt.
That's it.
She thought as she took out the skirt paired along with a black coat. Quickly putting them on, she went to dry her hair and then proceeding to type it up in a messy bun. She only applied a little lip balm on her plum pink lips, nothing else. Sophia had never been much of a fan of makeup because of her mother. So she preferred to keep it to a minimum. Not that she needed any to begin with. She was a natural beauty.
Walking out of her house, she took a taxi to Agustine Enterprises. Yes, Agustine Enterprises. The company ranking number one on Forbes List. The company in which people died to work in even if the job was that of a cleaner.
25 minutes.
That was all it took for her to reach her destination as she paid the driver and hurrying her way into the building. And, what a luck she had! The elevator wasn't closed yet. Sophia ran towards the elevator like a leopard that runs after it's prey in an attempt to catch it, quickly getting in.
Taking in deep, heavy breaths she tried to control her breathing after the little marathon she just ran. Completely oblivious to the fact that a stranger was standing behind her, trying to control his laughter after witnessing her cute little stunt.
But, hearing her cute, pretty huffs he just couldn't help himself as a little laugh passed his lips causing Sophia to snap her head around and taking in the presence of a very handsome stranger.
He seemed like twenty-five something. And, had the same eyes as the beloved uncle she held in place of God in her heart.
"Hi, little one." He greeted her with a cute grin, finally gaining control over his laughter.
"I'm really sorry. I was just- " Sophia stuttered trying to force out a reasonable answer from her lips as the handsome stranger cut her off making her face turn into a deeper shade of red.
"It's okay, little one. Are you new around here?" The stranger asked as he tilted his head observing her from head to toe. Her presence seemed to just comfort him and he just couldn't find the reason why. So, he just stared at her. Drinking her presence which was intoxicating him more than any alcohol could ever succeed to.
"Ummm... Technically, I'm not. I mean I'm new to this place but I don't work here yet. So, you see I-" Sophia rambled through her trembling lips making her nervousness very obvious as she was cut off yet again. She wasn't always like this. She was a smart, confident woman. But, somehow this man's presence was making her uncomfortable.
Uncomfortable in a cool way.
"I got it. So you are here for the assistant interview?" The stranger questioned, raising his left eyebrow. The voice that flew out his mouth was a melody to Sophia's ears which almost made her fall to her knees and worship this man. But she knew better.
"Yea." She answered in a small voice, bitting her lip to ease her nervousness.
"Don't do that, little one." The stranger growled at Sophia, making her freeze in her spot upon noticing his displeasure.
He inched closer to her trying to invade her personal space and with every step he took forward to invade it, made her involuntarily take two steps backwards to protect it which ultimately resulted in her being trapped between the wall and the man. It made Sophia feel small, as if she was a rabbit which was cornered by a wolf waiting to be eaten any next moment.
"Yes?" Sophia gasped out, her eyes staring at the floor as she her small brain realized that she had been trapped with no way left for her to escape this beautiful man's clutches. Not that she wanted to in the first place.
Her eyes lifted for a moment to look into the stranger's as she noticed a red gleam in his black eyes but it was gone as quickly as it came making her wonder if it was her mind playing tricks on her today.
"Don't bite your lip. It's bleeding." The stranger's raspy voice rang through Sophia's ears as ran his fingers over her plum lips dragging out her lower lip from between her pearly white teeth. As he wiped the little blood on them caused by her teeth's assault.
"Sorry." Sophia whispered as she looked down once again. Not daring to look into his eyes after being scolded. She just couldn't understand why was she scolded as if she has harmed his body instead of hers.
"It's okay, little one." The stranger said finally backing away from Sophia finally giving her personal space which he had once invaded back to her. As she let out a deep breath which she didn't know she holding until now.
"Umm... Why do you call me little one?" Sophia asked the stranger with eyes shining with curiosity like pretty lights that light up the sky at night in New York. But, before she could have gotten an answer, the elevator stopped.
Ding!
"Go, little one. I'll tell you when we meet again." The stranger said as Sophia walked out of the elevator with a single thought occupying her whole mansion of a mind.
Why are you so damn sure we'll meet again?
We won't, Mr. Hotshot.
