Chapter 2
In the dim-lighted room were five files lying on the table waiting for their fate to be decided by a man whose cold aura had frozen all the employees standing in the room in front of him under his scrutinizing gaze.
"Where is it?" A low voice growled in the room as the man's middle finger tapped on the mahogany desk displaying his impatience. But before the matter could have escalated further, a man ran into the office keeping a black file on the table.
"Here it is, Sir Rayn." The employee managed to say between his deep breaths as he took a few steps back, putting some distance between the devil and himself.
The devil.
That's right. That's what he was called. And, time and time again he proved he was worthy of the title.
"Get out!" Rayn screamed at the poor trembling employees as they quickly scquirred out of his office. If anyone would have seen the scene they would have thought that they were squirrels who ran up the trees into their homes upon the sight of a human.
But somehow Rayn didn't seem to matter it all. Once his office was quiet again, he looked at the file that had just been laid on his table five seconds ago.
The label of the file seemed to contain only one name attached to its black cover in bold.
SOPHIA.
Rayn smiled. Yes, smiled not smirked as he ran his hand gently over the name and said in a husky low voice.
"Finally found you, my lovely little kitten."
Meanwhile, in the appointed lobby sat around twenty eight people who had come for the interview to become the assistant of the youngest and richest man alive. Women and men were sitting on their appointed chairs, all dressed in clothes that screamed money and elegance. Except one who was sitting in a dead corner with her head hung low as her mind was occupied with the rent-free thoughts of the man she had met before in the elevator.
"Hil!" A chirpy voice brought Sophia out of her deep thoughts as she looked up to take notice of the owner of the voice.
"Would you mind if I sit beside you for a while?" The girl asked with sparkling eyes like those of a child which made it hard for Sophia to reject her.
"Not at all." Sophia replied with a small shake of head in 'no' as the girl instantly sat down beside her without further delay so that Sophia couldn't have even a second to change her mind.
"So... Why are you here for the interview?" The girl asked Sophia hopes of starting a conversation to end the awkward silence lingering between the two of them while all of them waited for the interviewer to call their names for the interview.
"The pay is good. And, I need money." Sophia spoke her mind without a second thought, once again gazing down at her hands, regretting her answer as soon as it left her mouth upon receiving no response.
Will she critize me for being materialistic? Sophia squirmed as the thought passed through her small mind for a moment. So, to confirm her assumptions that were being raised in her head with each passing second, she took a quick glance at the girl but the disgust she was searching for on her face was never there. Instead, her mouth was open wide as she stared at Sophia in complete amusement.
Finally, after recovering from the shock Sophia's answer had provided her, she let out a pure rich laugh without any lace of sarcasm or malicious intent in it. "Oh God! You're the best. Definitely not like those fake bitches." The girl exclaimed as she held out her hand and finally introduced herself.
"I'm Serphina! And you are?"
"Sophia." Sophia replied with a small smile as both of them shook hands. "Nice to meet you, Soph." Serphina replied with a big grin on her face.
But, before Sophia could provide her with any sort of reply the interviewer called out her name. "Sophia Denver!"
Hearing her name being called, Sophia immediately got up from her seat, straightened her skirt and then after passing Serphina an apologetic look which was returned with a beautiful smile and an encouraging nod, she walked towards the lady who had just called her name.
The lady took in Sophia's appearance with a disapproving look as she pointed at the large wooden door. The door behind which laid her future.
Sophia nodded at the lady in acknowledgment and pushed open the door as she walked in a large room with just one man who was staring at the wall outside through the glass wall with his back facing her.
"Hello, sir?" Sophia politely greeted the man present in the dim room with a timid voice as she looked down at the floor. The man's aura seemed to scream power but to her surprise it also brought back a familiar feeling which started to drown her mind and body as she started feeling weak in her knees, finding it hard to stand still.
"Sophia Denver?" The familiar husky voice called out her name but due to the feeling that was overwhelming her with each passing second, she couldn't recognize it. All she could focus on was how not to embrass herself by falling to her knees in front of this man possessing such a dark aura.
"Yes sir." Sophia confirmed, fidgeting. The overwhelming feeling was numbing her senses as she couldn't focus on anything but his voice which was floating in and out of her voice. The man just nodded his head in acknowledgment but never once turned around to actually acknowledge her presence.
"You are hired, Miss Denver. Tomorrow at sharp 5 A.M. at my penthouse. You can go now." The man said in a dismissive tone as Sophia stood there bewildered.
Was I hired? Just like that? What the hell? Thoughts ran through Sophia's little head like a race horse running on the race track but before she could speak another word. The deep voice interrupted her.
"Leave now, Miss Denver. And, on your way out sign the contract on my table." The man growled as Sophia immediately walked to his desk signing the contract without reading it. She couldn't afford to waste another minute upon sensing the man's displeasure. What if he changed his mind? No. She couldn't lose this opportunity.
Once, Sophia was done signing. She left the pen on the desk and proceeded to walk out the door. Still, not over the fact she has been hired in such a big company even after the fact her education wasn't properly completed as she had to drop out of school.
As soon as she closed the door behind her and walked out. The man chuckled to himself as he walked to his desk picking up the contract and flipping through it.
"Soon. Very soon. You'll be mine, little kitten. This time, no running. No leaving. No hiding."
