Chapter 3: An Inappropriate Ring Is Like a Marriage

When Eleanor woke up again, she was alone in the hospital room. Her phone had died and she didn't know how long she had been asleep. She looked out the window and saw that it was still dark outside.

Eleanor got up,put on her shoes, grabbed her bag,and walked out of the room. As she passed Victoria's room, she saw that the door was slightly open. She couldn't help but stop to take a look.

Victoria was wearing a blue and white striped hospital gown which couldn't hide her clean and elegant temperament. Her skin was very fair, with bright almond-shaped eyes. Eleanor thought maybe Sebastian liked Victoria's simplicity.

Sebastian treated Victoria so well that it made Eleanor jealous after watching them for too long. Those feelings made her gums ache.

People who didn't know Sebastian thought he naturally had an icy personality, but Eleanor knew he gave all his tenderness to Victoria and wouldn't spare any for anyone else. He used to be good to her too,but now there wasn't anything left between them.

Her "peeping" eventually caught the attention of both people inside the room; when Victoria saw her looking in through the door crack at them, she trembled like a little white rabbit hiding behind Sebastian as if seeing someone unforgivable.

Sebastian patted Victoria's shoulder lightly before turning his cold gaze towards Eleanor standing by the doorway; upon seeing her pale face without any blood color rising from within him came an irritable feeling,"What are you doing here pretending to be mysterious?"

Eleanor stood at the doorway looking at those two people who were inseparable from each other; their intimacy felt piercingly bright in front of her eyes even though it hurt so much that she didn’t want to see anymore because this wasn’t just any Sebastian - this was THE Sebastian whom she had longed for.

Sebastian blocked Victoria behind him and stared at Eleanor with his eyes, feeling a complex emotion rising within him. He furrowed his brows together tightly,"Since you're awake,go back."

Eleanor hesitated for a moment before asking in a hoarse voice,"Are you coming back tonight?"

He didn't answer.

In the instant he turned around,Eleanor heard Victoria's voice from inside the room. "Is Eleanor okay after losing so much blood? She looks terrible..."

"She's fine; her body has always been good."

Sebastian wasn't an absent-minded person; he could see work-related problems at first glance and immediately know what was going on with Victoria. However, when it came to someone whom he had known for six years, like Eleanor,he showed no patience or care.

Eleanor took a deep breath and left without looking back. The rain outside grew heavier as time passed by.

She walked slowly with her head down until she was completely soaked through in no time. Her body felt cold all over as if the chill seeped into her bones causing even her lips which were already pale to crack due to the coldness while water droplets clung onto her curled eyelashes.

Eleanor shivered from being too cold that it made both her head and stomach ache; she reached out to touch her stomach but accidentally knocked off the ring on her ring finger which had lost its original luster after four years of wearing it since Sebastian threw it at her mockingly saying,"Is this what you wanted?" when they signed their engagement contract together.

The ring was now one size smaller than before and rubbed against her finger until it bled making it red and raw yet she still insisted on wearing it thinking that maybe someday it would fit just right - just like how their relationship used to be between herself and Sebastian.

It was still raining outside as pedestrians passing by held up umbrellas one by one. Eleanor crouched down to pick up the ring and pressed it against her chest until her stomach felt better before standing back up.

She was like a wandering soul in the rain, lost in thought when she bumped into someone. It was a young mother with her child; the woman held onto the child's hand while speaking gently,"It's okay."

The child looked up at Eleanor and asked,"Are you crying?"

The woman patted the child's head apologetically before giving Eleanor an apologetic look then walked away with her child.

Eleanor heard them talking but couldn't make out what they were saying as their voices faded away amidst the sound of raindrops falling.
