Chapter 2 She Shows Up Again
Dermot quickly asked, "When did Dr. Kyte show up?"
"I heard it this morning."
Dermot commanded, "Get someone on it immediately. This time, no matter where she hides, you must find her!"
Dermot's friend was ill, and only Dr. Kyte could treat him, so he had been searching for Dr. Kyte for a long time.
Todd nodded. "Yes, Mr. Doyle."
At Moris Hospital.
Early in the morning, the hospital was buzzing with speculation.
"Who do you think the new deputy director is? Male or female? Are they easy to get along with?"
"Who knows? This person just parachutes in as a deputy director. Whoever can do that is either a technical guru or..." someone chuckled, implying something.
"I heard they're pretty young. It's more likely that they have connections."
"I agree."
After all, in the medical field, experience was crucial. Many spent decades without ever reaching the position of deputy director. That was why they were curious about this new arrival.
Amid the gossip, a young nurse trotted over. "She's here! She's super beautiful!"
Everyone was surprised to hear this. They walked toward the neurosurgery department, eager to catch a glimpse of the new deputy director.
On her way from the director's office to her own office, Evelyn was under the curious stares of others. Once inside, she closed the door and sat down to work without a moment's pause.
At first, she preferred to stay abroad rather than in Moris City. After all, she used to live abroad and had gained a reputation there.
However, Moris Hospital managed to connect her, wishing her to stay.
Neurosurgical care was limited in Moris City, and they pleaded with her to stay, hoping that she could help them save more lives. Hearing what they said, Evelyn hesitated.
In the end, she stayed because Aiden and Niall also wanted her to.
"She's so young! Is she even thirty?" someone exclaimed in disbelief.
"I heard she's only twenty-six."
"How is that possible?" People were surprised.
"Why not?" someone retorted. "Don't be fooled by her youth. I heard she graduated with a PhD."
"Haven't you heard of Dr. Kyte?" Marina Peterson couldn't believe their ignorance. These people are so out of touch.
The crowd looked puzzled. They had never heard of Dr. Kyte.
Seeing their reactions, Marina rolled her eyes. "Just look her up online, a bunch of ignoramuses."
With that, she trotted to Evelyn's office, knocked on the door, and waited until she was invited in.
"Dr. Kyte, hello, I'm Marina Peterson, an intern. The director asked me to assist you. Please let me know if you need me," she said, admiration shining in her eyes.
Evelyn had always been her idol. She heard that Evelyn was a prodigy who had skipped grades and graduated with a PhD at twenty-two.
Many people dreamed about having the chance to work alongside such a luminary!
Evelyn didn't know Marina's thoughts and didn't have time to guess. "Thank you."
"Not a problem at all!" Marina shook her head, clearly enjoying her role.
"Alright then, could you please bring me our neurosurgery medical records within the last ten years?" Evelyn asked. Before Marina could respond, she added, "And the details of our patients waiting for neurosurgery."
Being new to the hospital, Evelyn needed to get acquainted with everything as quickly as possible.
"Any problems with that?" Evelyn looked up from her work when she didn't hear a reply.
Marina felt a pressure. Despite Evelyn's gentle appearance, she exuded an overwhelming presence.
"No problem at all. I'll make sure it's done!" Marina quickly responded.
Evelyn nodded and returned to her work, while Marina left to gather the requested information.
Throughout the morning, Evelyn was immersed in medical records, and Marina, concerned for her health, brought her lunch.
Evelyn multitasked between eating and reviewing medical records, oblivious to Marina still standing in the office.
"Dr. Kyte, do you ... always work like this?" Marina couldn't help but ask.
"What do you mean?" Evelyn spared her a glance.
"I mean ... forgetting to eat because you're so busy."
"It's not a big deal." Evelyn shrugged nonchalantly.
"You really shouldn't. Your health..."
Before she could finish, the sound of an ambulance siren interrupted her.
Evelyn frowned and looked at her. "Check on the patient. See if they need help."
"Right away!"
Within five minutes, Marina rushed back into Evelyn's office. "Dr. Kyte, please come with me. The patient is seriously injured."
