Chapter 6

"May, oh dear sister, don't cry.” Miles had said as he rested his chin on her head, still caressing her hair with his right hand and patting her back with the other. He knew May so well, she is strong, and she gets hurt so easily, but she would never show it, she would never cry, and he felt his heart break for his sister. They stood like that for close to 15 minutes, as she finally looked up at him wiping her tears with the back of her hands, she looked into his eyes. “I am so sorry brother, I -- I know I have done a bad thing, I thought of only myself and I just can't seem to look at how pained you were, you wouldn't look at me most times, when you did you don't smile, you give me that cold expression I never wanted from you, I missed you, I –” she cried again as she spoke, unable to finish her words, his strong arms wrapped around her again as she sobbed on his chest. He was strongly built, May had thought of how dear she had missed this.

“It's ok, shuushhh”, Miles had calmed her, “I completely understood, I didn't want to break what my dear sister had set her head upon,” Mile had said to her. Miles had felt trapped in her memories until May had suddenly dropped him a message earlier to meet him.

With the clock ticking and they were under the threat of a hunter roaming or a demon, yes demon.. she had encountered in the past while roaming through the book but it had shown her nothing like it did with her great-grandmother.

His little sister stared at him, as she took a step backward, meaning to tell him it was important and she had to start now His face saddened a bit and he dragged her with him to sit on the nearest bench close to them.

She cleared her mind as she held his hands in hers, she cast her eyes towards the dense lines of trees that defined the horizon beyond the vicarage.

Agreeing on a conclusion set in her mind to tell him, May had opened her necklace trying to let him understand what she was about to say and let him see it for himself.

Unknowingly to them the school leader and most powerful witch had woken up, feeling something was not right, they had informed all special students with powers, and they told off some students to protect the dorms and not allow anyone out especially the humans as the rest rushed to the school training room, trying to check if what he saw was right, the school had been breached by a demon that hadn't appeared in thousands of years. He had told the training leader Becca to summon all the school authorities, the witch leaders, priests, warriors, and foreseers as fast as she could. She had run as fast as she could down the road as she was told, to inform the leaders.

“What do you mean demons”, the oldest of them had asked. He saw it. As soon as he went to sleep, he knew what had happened, something drew the demon near. “It got attracted to something or someone. I felt someone had tampered with a spell book, Becca had said as she panted. They kept looking up at her like she spoke some language they didn't understand”. She had one choice, to run to the most powerful foreseer in the academy, she had hoped it wouldn't be too late. As she turned back to the Foreseer, Baxton was here. She is right, she said to the group, but as the youngest priest had asked, “but they have been cast out thousands of years ago”. “This is no time to ask why, we are all in danger, the special spell book was tampered with, not just by anyone but by her.” They all gasped, they all thought last Mali, Mali is a person with the most powerful supernatural powers ever born, always rare to find, it could take hundreds of years to bore one, she had all powers, unlike others who had just one each. They had thought last Mali was burned alive having no record of bearing any child. They all went to the school field, but it was there, too late to protect their walls and bind them.

May had heard something from about the bushes, she closed her eyes to listen carefully, but nothing she waited again and this time she did she heard it, she wasn't sure enough as her brother Miles had interrupted her, shuush, she had told him, someone is here with us she had whispered to him. Miles became alert, trying to look around to figure out who was out there. May held the necklace in her hand as she stood up with Miles, and he strode forward to check who it was. May felt she saw some pair of eyes shining and looking at her brother Miles.

She narrowed her eyes in the darkness, the moon was the only thing that shone the light around them, she was looking directly at the figure, struggling to understand who was spying on them, but something didn't feel familiar, and just then did the Rays of light fade from whoever was there as her brother had stepped right in front. She saw it, those eyes, evil, she could not reason why, and then the bright smile faded from her lively expression. She could not say what it was about the sight of the person that cast a shadow over her thumping heart, only that the sight of it brought her the feeling that a reckoning was underway.

The rustling of the leaves could be heard, it was loud enough, Miles had moved back a little fearing who it may be. The birds had stopped the individual melodies of their songs, as far as they were concerned the trees weren't safe for them at that moment, as they flew away.
