CHAPTER 2- Brains Vs Brawns

Xaviers POV

As I lay on my bed, I began reminiscing about all that happened earlier. My wolf had told me to walk home because it found my mate. The girl who killed the vampire without touching him.

I had wanted to go after her when she ran but the thought of trying to explain everything to her held me back. How could I just walk up to her and tell her that I was her mate? She would have thought I was some crazy werewolf.

I remember how she looked and how my heart skipped a beat. My mate was the most beautiful creature I had ever laid eyes on. The moonlight illuminated her face, and her features were soft and delicate. Her hair was like a river of dark gold, cascading down her back in gentle waves.

But it wasn't just her physical beauty that captivated me. As I lay there I was enveloped in her scent - a mixture of earth and flowers that was intoxicating. I felt a deep connection to her as if we were meant to be together.

I tossed and turned from side to side as I tried to sleep but many thoughts ran through my mind. Aura had shown her to me but how was I going to meet her? I had expected my mate to be among my pack but now I was mated to someone whom I didn't even know.

I sighed and stood up from my bed. I couldn't sleep. The heat and the many thoughts in my head were keeping my eyes open. I then decided to take a walk to clear my head.

I walked out of my room and headed to my garden. At least I could lay under the pine tree and receive some fresh air. That could help put me to sleep.

I passed my pack's training ground as I was going to the garden and I paused in my tracks as I heard loud groaning coming from there. I walked over to the training ground to find out what was making the grunting and I saw Marcus training with a wooden dummy. He was the one cashing the grunting.

His long black hair fell to his sides and stuck to his wet body as he threw punches at the wooden Mannequin. He struck each blow with the intent to kill. That was one thing I never liked about my beta. He was too viscous and always ready to draw blood.

"I'll kill you," he screamed as he jumped and delivered a strong blow to the face of the mannequin, sending it out of the training pit. He breathed loudly and placed his hands on his knee as he tried catching his breath.

"You are using way too much force for a mere dummy training," I said as I walked into the pit. Upon hearing my voice, Marcus turned to me sharply with a surprised look on his face. I guess he didn't know I had been watching him the whole time.

"You've... you've been watching... me?" Marcus muttered in between sharp shallow breaths.

"You're sounding like someone who's about to die," I said as I walked up to him and he chuckled.

"It ain't... it ain't that easy, man," Marcus said as he stood upright and dusted off the sand that was stuck to his sweaty body. He flexed his biceps and grinned. "But it's all worth it."

"You do know it isn't about having the muscles but the intellect." Marcus looked at me and chuckled. "Why are you laughing?" I asked and he smiled.

"I don't think it works like that," he said and I grinned.

"Alright then," I breathed. "How about this? I fight you and I'm not going to use any of my strength. Brains against brawns. We see who comes out the winner."

Marcus smiled slightly as he stood in a fighting stance and said, "Oh this is going to be fun."

"Yeah," I replied. "For me that is." I cracked my neck and stretched my arms as I stood lazily. I yawned and said, "Let's make this quick. I have some z's to catch."

Marcus looked at me with a smile. He then screamed and rushed at me. I stood, waiting for him to be close and when he was, I immediately kicked the ground, spraying sand into the air. Some entered his eyes, distracting him and I took my chance. Before he could recollect himself, I gave him a light punch to his face and he fell to the ground.

"You're cheating," he screamed as he spat out the sand that had entered his mouth to the ground. "You're most definitely using your strength."

I shrugged and said, "All I did were just pure tactics. I promise I'm not using any of my strength. If I used my strength to punch you, your face would have been left with bruises and you would have gotten a concussion."

He growled and said, "Beginners luck then," before rushing at me again.

Marcus threw several blows at me but I dodged all with ease. He was putting much strength and power into his blows and before long he began to tire out. He threw one blow at me and I bent to the side, dodging the blow. I then grabbed his arm and used his body weight to launch himself over my shoulders. He landed with a loud thud and stood up immediately.

He rushed at me again, his eyes red with rage and he began throwing punches and kicks at me again. I blocked and evaded all his blows. He decided to use my first tactic by sweeping sand to my face with his leg. I put my arm over my face, blocking the sand from reaching my eyes. He began kicking at me again and I walked backward to avoid his blows. I accidentally tripped on a loose root on the ground and almost fell.

As I tried regaining my composure, Marcus gave me a hard kick to the chest sending me backward. The air in my lungs flew out of my mouth as I landed on and rolled on the sand.

I looked up and saw Marcus' huge feet over my face. I immediately rolled to the side, dodging his stomp. He kept on trying to stomp on my face and I kept on rolling and dodging them all. After rolling for the fifth time, I immediately grabbed his leg as he was about to stomp on me again and used my right leg to sweep his standing leg. He fell to the ground head first and I jumped and placed my leg on his chest, pinning him to the floor.

"Brains win," I breathed as I chuckled loudly. I removed my feet my Marcus' chest and stretched my hand out to him. He grabbed it, rather too tightly and I lifted him off the ground.

"You win me now doesn't mean you can win me another time," Marcus muttered as he dusted himself. He was breathing heavily and was covered in sweat. I on the other hand was breathing normally and was just covered in little dirt from the rolling.

"Brains always defeat brawns, Marcus," I said as I dug my hands into my pocket. "Whenever you know that and apply it, then maybe you could defeat me... maybe."

Marcus grinned and muttered, "Sure."

I was about to leave when he called me back.

"Um, Xavier?" he called.

"Yeah," I answered as I turned to him. "Watsup."

"You didn't tell me why you decided to walk back to the pack house," he said and I sighed. "I didn't want to question your decision in front of the guards, that's why I didn't ask you anything back then." I knew Marcus was going to ask me this later and I knew he didn't question me because of the guards there. Any sign of disrespect from a beta to his alpha can cause one of them to misbehave.

"Well, I just wanted to cool off some steam," I lied and Marcus didn't seem to buy it. He knew me too well and knew when I was lying.

"I'm your beta, Xavier," Marcus said with a grin. "I know you too well and I know that you're lying. What made you take that walk?"

I sighed and said, "Well my wolf told me to take the walk."

"Aura," he muttered and I nodded. "Why did Aura tell you to walk through?"

"I do not know," I lied again. "I did find a group of vampires though but I don't think it relates to why Aura told me to walk. I expected something much more dangerous to happen or something."

Marcus knew I wasn't telling the full truth but he didn't push further.

"Alright then," Marcus said as he stretched and turned to walk away. "When you're ready to tell me what happened, I'll be in my room." He bowed and I nodded.

"Will see you in the morning," I said as he walked to his room.

I decided to abandon going to the garden and instead go bath to wash the sand stuck on my body. As I walked to my room, thoughts began flying through my head.

"I need to find her," I muttered before entering my room.
