Awkward
Janna
I moved uncomfortably in the luxurious sofa of Alpha Jake's study, the lavishness of the room doing little to ease the discomfort settling within me. The mansion, which should have emanated warmth and welcome, felt cold and indifferent. Even the servants and maids, usually attentive and polite, seemed aloof and disinterested in my presence.
Glancing around, I couldn't spot Alpha Jake's parents, Jomar and Lana, who were noticeably absent from the greeting party I expected. It was a stark contrast to the warm welcome I anticipated upon my arrival. The air seemed thick with tension, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that I was an unwelcome guest in what should have been my future home.
My gaze flitted to the antique clock on the wall, its hands ticking away the minutes. It had been more than half an hour since I arrived, and there was still no sign of Alpha Jake. The punctual and eager man I once knew seemed replaced by an Alpha who couldn't be bothered to keep to a schedule.
I stood up with an air of arrogance, my smile fading into a deep frown as the door swung open, revealing not Alpha Jake but his beta, Rico. I couldn't conceal my disappointment, and I let out an exasperated sigh, my frustration reaching its peak.
"Where the hell is Alpha Jake?" I demanded, my tone sharp and impatient. I expected a grand entrance from the Alpha, not his beta standing in his place.
Rico's frown matched mine, but his expression held a seriousness that made my irritation falter for a moment. "Alpha Jake is currently occupied with pack matters. If you have something to discuss, you can tell me, and I'll convey it to him later."
I scoffed at the suggestion, my impatience getting the better of me. "No! I demand to see Alpha Jake now. I won't wait any longer. He needs to know what I came here for."
Rico's gaze hardened, and he crossed his arms over his chest. "Alpha Jake is handling important affairs for the pack. Whatever your business is, it can wait. If it's urgent, I assure you, I will convey the message to him."
My frustration boiled over, and I snapped back, "I won't be dismissed like this! I came here for Alpha Jake, and I won't leave until I've spoken to him."
Rico maintained his composure, unfazed by my outburst. "Your impatience doesn't change the situation. If you have any respect for the pack, you'll understand the importance of Alpha Jake's duties. Now, tell me your business, or you'll have to wait."
My anger fueled my defiance, and I clenched my fists. "I won't be treated like this. I demand to see Alpha Jake immediately. Nothing you say will make me back down."
Rico sighed, a hint of exasperation in his voice. "Fine, wait if you must, but don't expect to barge into Alpha Jake's office whenever you please. There are proper channels to follow, and impatience won't get you anywhere."
He gestured for me to retake my seat, and as much as I hated to admit it, he had a point. My grand entrance was turning into a waiting game, and whether I liked it or not, I had to play by their rules.
I couldn't contain my impatience as I questioned Rico about the rumors circulating Alpha Jake's personal life. "Is it true that Alpha Jake has a new woman in his life and they have a child now?" I asked, my voice tinged with a mix of anxiety and irritation.
Rico nodded solemnly. "Yes, it's true. Alpha Jake has a family now, and they are his priority."
My frustration mounted, and I vehemently declared, "No! As long as Alpha Jake is not yet married, we could still be together. He doesn't have to choose them over me."
Rico shook his head, his expression unwavering. "Alpha Jake's commitment is to his family. They are not a hindrance but a priority. You need to understand that."
I scowled, unwilling to accept this reality. "I won't accept it. If he's not married, we can still be together. I won't let him slip away like this."
Rico sighed, his patience wearing thin. "Janna, things have changed. Alpha Jake has responsibilities now. You can't expect him to go back to how things were."
My determination remained unshaken, and I retorted, "But we were supposed to be together. He loved me before. I won't let some woman and child ruin our chance."
Rico's tone took on a stern edge. "Your perspective is selfish. Alpha Jake has found happiness in his family. You need to respect that."
I glared at Rico, frustration and desperation bubbling within me. "I won't let them take him away from me. I'll make sure Alpha Jake realizes we're meant to be together."
Rico's gaze hardened, and he warned, "Don't create problems where there aren't any. Respect Alpha Jake's choices, or you'll find yourself unwelcome here."
My resolve remained unyielding, and I shot back, "I won't back down. Alpha Jake is mine, and I won't let anyone else have him."
Rico's expression turned cold, and he stated firmly, "Your selfish pursuit won't change the reality of Alpha Jake's life. Accept it or leave."
Just as the tension reached its peak, the door swung open, revealing Alpha Jake. Janna's eyes widened, and without a moment's hesitation, she ran towards him, throwing her arms around him in a tight embrace. Tears streamed down her face as she clung to him desperately.
Alpha Jake, seemingly caught off guard, gently patted her back. "Janna, what's going on?"
Between sobs, Janna managed to say, "I heard... I heard you have a family now. Please, tell me it's not true."
