Chapter 9 - Offer

Samantha

I arrived at the Lewis Corporation early, wanting to make a good impression on my first day. As I entered the elegant building, I made my way to the CEO's floor, my heart filled with a mix of excitement and nervousness. The polished floors and modern décor of the CEO's floor created an aura of sophistication that was both inspiring and intimidating.

I took a seat in the waiting area, my palms slightly sweaty as I anxiously anticipated the start of my new job. It wasn't long before Kyla, the other secretary, approached with a warm and welcoming smile.

"Good morning, Samantha," she greeted me. "I'm impressed that you're here early."

I returned her smile, relieved that she seemed friendly. "I didn't want to be late on my first day."

Kyla's friendly demeanor put me at ease, and I appreciated her efforts to make me feel comfortable. "That's a great attitude, Samantha. But before we dive into work, have you had your breakfast?"

I hesitated for a moment, not wanting to admit that I hadn't had a proper meal. "Well, I just had some hot water before leaving home."

Kyla chuckled warmly, as if understanding my situation. "No need to worry. Breakfast is provided for all employees here. Let's go grab something to eat."

She led me to the pantry, a well-stocked and inviting space. Kyla then picked up the phone and called the cafeteria to arrange for our breakfast. I couldn't help but feel a bit anxious, concerned about the cost. Money had always been tight for my family, and I didn't want to start my job by spending unnecessarily.

Kyla must have sensed my unease because she turned to reassure me. "Don't worry, Samantha. Breakfast, lunch, and even an afternoon snack are all provided for free to all employees. You can save your money for other things."

Relief washed over me as I processed her words. The kindness and generosity of this company were beyond my expectations, and I was immensely grateful for their consideration.

As we sat down to eat, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the newfound sense of security and support. Kyla started to teach me the basics of my job, explaining the responsibilities and tasks that I would be handling. She was patient and thorough in her guidance, providing me with valuable insights to help me navigate my new role.

I listened attentively, eager to absorb all the information she was sharing. The Lewis Corporation was different from any place I had ever worked, and I was determined to make the most of this opportunity.

I had been in the midst of a training session with Kyla, learning the ropes of my new role, when the CEO of the company, Mr. Jake Lewis, made his grand entrance. He appeared in the hallway, his tall and imposing figure demanding attention, and he was accompanied by his assistant, Ian, who seemed to exude an air of professionalism and efficiency.

I couldn't help but watch as they approached the waiting area. Mr. Lewis had a commanding presence, his steps purposeful and confident. His dark hair was impeccably styled, and the sharp lines of his suit conveyed authority and success. There was an aura of power that surrounded him, making it clear why he was the head of the corporation.

Ian, on the other hand, had an air of professionalism that seemed to match Mr. Lewis perfectly. His attire was smart, and he carried himself with a calm and collected demeanor. It was evident that he was well-versed in assisting the CEO in every aspect of his work.

As the CEO and his assistant neared, Mr. Lewis's sharp gaze fell upon me, and for a moment, it felt as though time had come to a standstill. The intensity of his dark eyes as they met mine left me momentarily stunned. He had the kind of presence that made you instantly aware of his authority, and I couldn't help but feel a mix of apprehension and curiosity.

He didn't waste any time, addressing me with a directness that left little room for hesitation. "Samantha," he said, his voice strong and confident, "please come to my office."

I was taken aback by the unexpected request, and for a moment, I must have appeared somewhat startled. Kyla, ever observant and understanding, leaned in and whispered, "Mr. Lewis doesn't like to wait. You should go."

I nodded, feeling a rush of adrenaline as I realized that I was about to meet the CEO of the company personally. It was a moment I hadn't anticipated on my first day, and it filled me with a mix of excitement and nervousness.

As I made my way towards Mr. Lewis's office, I couldn't help but wonder what he wanted to discuss. Had I done something wrong during my training? Or was this a standard procedure for all new employees? My thoughts raced as I approached the CEO's door, and with a deep breath, I knocked gently and waited for his response.

Mr. Lewis ushered me inside, and I couldn't help but take in the sophisticated surroundings of his office. It was a reflection of his success and power, filled with sleek, modern furniture and large windows that offered a view of the city skyline.

He motioned for me to take a seat, and I did so with a mixture of respect and apprehension. This was a man who had built an empire, and I felt a profound sense of privilege to be in his presence.

"Ms. Samantha Russell," he began, his voice measured and composed, "welcome to the Lewis Corporation. I trust your training has been going well so far?"

I met his gaze, my own eyes reflecting determination. "Thank you, Mr. Lewis. I appreciate the opportunity to be here, and Kyla has been very helpful in guiding me through my training."

Mr. Lewis's lips curved slightly into a thoughtful smile. "I'm glad to hear that. We value excellence and dedication here, and I expect nothing less from my employees."

His words carried weight, and I felt a renewed sense of determination to meet his expectations. Mr. Lewis's reputation for demanding excellence was well-known, and I was determined to prove myself in this new role.

Inside Mr. Lewis's office, the atmosphere seemed to shift. He had just asked me about my willingness to accept an offer, but his words left me puzzled. What offer could he possibly be referring to? I watched as his assistant, Ian, excused himself from the room and discreetly locked the door behind him, leaving Mr. Lewis and me in private.

I took a seat in front of Mr. Lewis's imposing desk, my heart racing with a mix of curiosity and apprehension. His office, with its sleek and modern design, had always conveyed a sense of authority and power, but now, it seemed to carry an air of secrecy and importance that I couldn't quite grasp.

Mr. Lewis sighed, his fingers steepled beneath his chin as he regarded me with an intensity that mirrored his reputation for being a shrewd and perceptive leader. "Samantha, I'll get straight to the point. I have a rather unusual proposition, one that may come as a surprise."

I leaned forward slightly, my curiosity growing with every passing second. "An unusual proposition, Mr. Lewis? I'm listening."

He took a deep breath, his dark eyes locked onto mine. "I would like to ask if you would consider becoming a surrogate."
