Chapter 4

Mica

The incident happened three days ago, and thankfully, nothing has happened yet. I guess I was just thinking too much when those wolves left, only out of fear. One of the crew members was sick, and I volunteered for a double shift. Cane and Lottie didn’t want that since they knew that I was a human and our strength and stamina were not as good as wolves.

“I didn’t want you to get sick,” Lottie said. I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to talk. I heard her sigh and say, “Fine, if you want to.” I nodded my head immediately because I didn’t want her to change her mind. Then I and the others continued working.

I was cleaning the table when everyone turned silent and I heard Lottie, Cane's mate, greeting an alpha. I looked at where he was, and I must admit that he was indeed very handsome and looked strong. Before he could see me glancing at him, I looked back at the table I was cleaning, but I could still feel everyone bowing their heads at him.

He didn't do anything and left after he and Lottie talked. I never spared him a glance after the first one, but I don't know why I felt like he had his eyes on me. I hope it's not because I'm his mate. But I guess not, since he wasn't yelling like everyone does when they find their mates. Just like the other day when one of our customers found his mate from another pack. He yelled mine, and the woman replied, "Yours." Just what BS is that? I was about to go to the kitchen when I looked outside, just in time for Alpha to look my way too. I felt a sudden fear, and I wondered why. It came from nowhere. Why would I be scared of him? No, I am not scared of him; I am scared of the way he looks at me. He is such a freak.

Everything runs smoothly in the diner after, and, just like before, I never talked to anyone. I started to get used to the place, and, whether I admit it or not, I liked it here. My bosses seem friendly, as do the other staff. And I'm pretty sure that my stepfather won't be able to find me here. If he did, he would have a hard time getting me because I know that Came and Lottie are going to defend me from him.

It was an afternoon when a guy proposed to me. Of course, I didn't entertain him. I had no time for that kind of relationship, so I said no to him even if I didn't want to talk. Because he offered me the flowers, I took them, but I told him not to give me anything in the future because I have no feelings for him. I saw him get sad, but I couldn't do anything about it. I can't just tell myself to accept him and try. Then I happened to look up and found that Alpha was looking at me again. The freak is back. We looked at each other, but for some reason, he turned and started to walk out of the diner.

I shouldn't care about him either, so I shouldn't bother thinking about him. There's still something that I want to do, and that is to go back to school and finish college. The guy left, so I went back to my work. I didn't want Lotie to think that I was taking advantage of them.

I was keeping myself busy when Lottie approached me and asked me to come to her office. Did she get mad because of the scene earlier? I hope not, but I will just say sorry and promise that it will never happen again. I didn't want to leave here, and I wanted to continue working here. The pay is good, and my apartment is just two blocks away from here. So it was convenient. I knocked before I opened the door and heard,

"Mine!" I was startled, but I looked behind me to check if there was someone there other than me that the freak alpha was claiming as his. But to my dismay, I was alone, and he was referring to me as he was now looking at me. No, it can't be. I didn't want to be mated with him or his kind, so I turned my back to him and left the office. I ran to the back door, hoping he would never catch up to me. But it was wishful thinking because he was in front of me as soon as I got out of the back door.

"Why are you running?" He asked, but I didn't want to answer. "I am asking you, so you better answer, human." He said that, and that made me chuckle.

"Yes, I am a human. So don't come near me because I hate you." I saw his eyes turn red. Why is it red? I thought vampires had red eyes, while wolves have brown or golden brown.

"Go back to Lottie's office, and let's talk." He said. He looked calm, but that made me feel scared of him.

"There's no reason for us to talk. I don't know you, and you don't know me. Find someone else; I don't have time for you." I said and turned my back to him again. Since he was there, I would just get back to work. But he stopped me by my wrist and carried me like a sack of potatoes. He started to walk away from the diner, so I got scared.

"Put me down!" I yelled. We are in the back, so no one sees us when he puts me inside the car that stops in front of us. "Where are you taking me?" I asked as I turned to the door and tried to open it, but failed.

"You don't need to be afraid of us; we're not going to harm you." The woman in the passenger seat said She was smiling, so she looked very welcoming. But she's still a wolf, so I don't trust her. Their kind killed my father. I saw the woman's face saddened, but I didn't care. I had to think of a way to escape. I looked at the freak alpha and found him staring at me, so I glared at him.

"I hate you!" I said, and I decided to just shut my mouth. Everything I say or do will be of no use. They are more powerful than me, and I don't know how I am going to fight them.
